  1. 'Same old story'

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Arsenal (agg 2-1)

    Chris Sutton

Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The best team won. It's sad and it's the end of an era for Arsene Wenger but it was the same old story, a soft goal cost them. Then they couldn't get back in it and the final ball wasn't good enough. This has been the story under Wenger for many years now.

In the early days Arsenal could win in any fashion - playing pretty football or beating you up. But now it's too few and far between and they do not have the substance at the back.

  2. Your say

#bbcfootball or 81111 on text (UK only)

Andrew: Mesut Ozil's club career is literally passing him by.

Matthew: In a way, ending on a massive avoidable letdown is a fitter ending than actually winning the Europa League would have been.

Robert: What is Monreal's favourite game? Noughts in crossing.......

Neil: I don't think Arsenal would have scored if they played all night.

Darren: I guess the only thing to look forward to now is a busy summer transfer window.

Amrul: The new Arsenal manager needs to review Mesut Ozil's performances and pick him based on that.

  3. Post update

    FT: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Arsenal

    That's it from me.

There will be no glorious end for Arsene Wenger. Instead of the Europa League final, his last match after 22 years as Arsenal boss will be away to Huddersfield.

    Thanks for your company.

I'm going to leave you with some of the best reaction from tonight's game.

  4. 'The suffering is tough'

    FT: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Speaking to BT Sport, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "It was a similar game to what we had in the first leg. The dangerous situations we created were there but we missed something in both boxes. We played a good team and good luck to them in the final but we feel we did enough to go through. We didn’t manage the important moments of either game well. We were 1-0 up with ten minutes to go at home, and then we conceded a stupid goal. Tonight we looked OK and then conceded on the counter attack. Atletico played with fear in the first half that if we score they could be out, but once they scored they played with a cushion. We lost possession and Diego Costa is one of the best strikers in the world."

Asked about Laurent Koscielny's injury, Wenger said: "It is an Achilles rupture and maybe we will have good news, but the first signs are not very good."

Asked about the end of European venture with Arsenal, Wenger said: "It is very very sad but unfortunately you have to go through this in our game. It can be very cruel but sometimes it is nice. The suffering is tough tonight."

Marseille will meet Atletico Madrid in the Europa League final after a controversial finish in Austria. The French club progress 3-2 on aggregate.

  10. RED CARD

  11. GOAL - RB Salzburg 2-1 Marseille

    Jorge Rolando

    Drama in Salzburg!

Atletico Madrid still don't know who they are going to meet in the Europa League final on 16 May.

The other semi-final between RB Salzburg and Marseille is around eight minutes away from a penalty shootout. It's 2-0 to Salzburg on the night and 2-2 on aggregate. We'll keep you up to date with that game right here.

  15. 'Arsenal need tinkering'

    FT: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Arsenal

    Chris Sutton

Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I don't think Arsenal need an overhaul. They need a tinkering. I look at what Chelsea did in terms of finishing tenth and then under Antonio Conte in his first season, doing the unthinkable and winning the league. There needs to be a tinkering at Arsenal but they need a whole new defence.

  16. End of an era

    Atletico Madrid 1-0 Arsenal

Three matches left for Arsene Wenger before he officially departs.

After hosting Burnley on Sunday in his last home match in charge, Wenger takes his side to Leicester next Wednesday before saying goodbye after 22 years with an away game at Huddersfield.

  17. GREAT SAVE!

    RB Salzburg 2-0 Marseille

The hosts are full of energy here. Has anyone told them they've already played 90 plus minutes?

And Duje Caleta-Car has their first big chance, heading down from a corner but seeing Marseille keeper Yohann Pele brilliantly palm the ball away.

How Arsenal could have done with Diego Godin on their team tonight. In the early days Arsenal could win in any fashion - playing pretty football or beating you up. But now it's too few and far between and they do not have the substance at the back.
