Sean: Pep could have sent out deckchairs for the City players.

Julian: City have more points than United's treble winners already, with eight games to spare. Going to be history makers.

  3. 'It doesn't matter when we win it'

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to BBC: "We created enough chances and we were solid. I am so happy, it is the first time after 18 years we beat Stoke home and away and now we are two or three games away from being champions.

"We have one week training in better conditions now, we will see our draw in the Champions League next Friday. Sooner or later we will be champions if we play like this.

"It doesn't matter when we win it."

Amrul: If Stoke go down I don't see them coming back up straight away. It's a horrible division with 46 games plus play-off if involved, not to mention the clubs that come up from League 1 are normally ex-Premier League sides who stumbled down the ladder.

  5. 'They are on another level'

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

    Stoke City

Stoke boss Paul Lambert: "They are as good a team as I've seen in a long time. They have gone to another level. But credit to my team, they never capitulated.

"Defensively we got caught for the goals but they never carved us up like they have with other teams. This game was never going to define our season. We had odd moments but you have to take your chances.

"The way they play is terrific, you don't really see it until you get close up, it's so difficult to stop. I won't criticise my team, we stuck at it.

"Pep was very complimentary to ourselves at the end, the spirit they have shown."

  6. 'I believe we'll be alright'

    Stoke City

Stoke captain Jack Butland: "They are going to win the league and they are one of the best teams we have seen in the Premier League. We kept them out more than we let them through.

"It's not easy for us down there. We know hat our goal is and what we need to do. We have to approach every game with the same intensity and I believe we will be alright."

Kevin: I’m not sure where the negativity towards Stoke is coming from. I feel we’ve put up a good fight and a decent performance against a team running away with the league. Considering we lost 7-2 in the reverse under Hughes I’d say we’re in with a chance under Lambert…

  8. 'Sooner or later we will be champions'

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to Sky Sports: "We are very close now, we have 81 points which is a lot! We had a solid performance, we controlled the game and conceded no chances.

"Now we have three weeks off, we go to Abu Dhabi and will come back strong. It is a tough winter for everybody so we are off straight away and we look forward to the weather.

"Today we were solid. David Silva controls the tempo. He has the skills no doubt about that but in the bad moments he is there to control the game and he is an aggressive competitior.

"To be champions is tough, it's complicated. Our club does not have a history of a lot of titles. As soon as possible will be better but now we can be relaxed, the players go away with their international teams. It doesn't matter where we win it.

"I understand that it is important to our fans to win it against United but the target is the next game at Everton. After that, if we play like today sooner or later we will be champions."

That Manchester derby, by the way, is on 7 April. Get it in the diary.

  11. 'When I play I forget'

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

    David Silva

Manchester City midfielder David Silva on how his form is so good despite the premature birth of his son: "I don't know! When I play football I forget about everything else, it is good for me to play.

"My private life is very hard for me but my son is fighting and getting better."

  12. 'Once in a lifetime opportunity'

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany on Sky Sports: "Every win brings you closer to your goal but we want to keep this standard until the end of the season and into the next season too.

"It's a massive boost for us to play the game like we do. Everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it's a once in a lifetime opportunity [to win the title against Manchester United] but steady, it won't be handed to us."

  14. 'City's quality shone through'

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

    Robbie Savage

Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It could’ve been four or five for Manchester City.

No shots on target from Stoke will be a disappointment, only that miscued clearance from Kyle Walker causing City trouble.

But they didn’t give up, worked hard and put a shift in for the manager, but their quality shone through from City.

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

Pep Guardiola leads a round of hugs and back slaps between his backroom staff and players. He is beaming, clealry enjoying every minute of this title race.

He stops for a word with Peter Crouch too before imparting some advice to Leroy Sane.

  16. Silva my man of the match

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

    Robbie Savage

Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Superb performance from the man in midfield.

His one touch football, awareness to play the ball at the right time. Two great finishes. 100% David Silva is man of the match. But a lot of good performances are there are week after week from this Manchester City side.

The 2017-18 season in microcosm. Manchester City win and win easily.

  18. Post update

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

Manchester City counting down the seconds. They go to 81 points, Stoke haven't had a shot on target so actually I can be critical of one aspect of their display.

  19. Post update

    Stoke 0-2 Man City

The gulf is real. Stoke fans, can you be critical of your performance tonight? I don't feel like they have done much wrong. Five minutes have been added on.

Amrul: Praying City can hammer in few late goals, this Stoke performance deserves a battering scoreline.

Johnny: I feel like the Premier League should be split into two leagues of 10 teams. What is the point in this game? Stoke are going to get relegated & they’re not even trying. Against all the big teams it’s the same. Seriously? Where is the competition in games like these?
