  1. Over to Goodison

While we try to think of a single possible candidate who would take the Stoke job, we're closing this one down.

Join Saj for Everton v Manchester United here.

  2. Who else?!

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

'Who else is going to do it?'

Manage a Premier League club for £ms of pounds a year? You're right Mark, I doubt they could find one candidate out there...

  3. Hughes: 'I'm best person for the job'

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

    Stoke City

    Mark Hughes

Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "We knew it was an important game and we came into it with the mindset of getting maximum points but we came up short. We deserved something out of the game but we didn’t get it, you’ve got to pick yourselves up and get on with it. In key moments we need to recognise when situations in the game are likely to damage us – but in terms of the team trying to force the issue clearly that was us.

"They had a little bit of joy down the right but we had chances ourselves - they just had more bodies behind the ball and played on the counter. From our point of view a number of elements need to be better but we went into the game with real intent and we haven’t managed it today unfortunately.

"The players are frustrated, disappointed, but that’s a consequence of the high standards that I’ve set here."

On team selection: "Everyone’s saying that I gambled but I used the players that I had, what was I going to do? Risk players that had a big part to play today? Plenty of teams have made changes today, everyone else is doing it too."

On his future: "Who else is going to do it? In terms of the knowledge of the group and the progress in my time here, I’m the best person to do it."

    Mark Hughes
  4. Post update

Everton v Man Utd (17:30 GMT)

Still one game to come today too - you can follow that game in full over here.

  5. 'We had the spirit to play football'

    Leicester 3-0 Huddersfield

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Claude Puel speaking to Match of the Day: "It was a good game because we played a good team, with quality, structure and a strong defensive unit. It was not easy.

"After the end of the first half, perhaps it was not enough - we lacked quality. We came back in the second half with the same spirit to play football on the floor and with quality.

"It's a good thing for the team, because they took confidence after the game against Liverpool.

"We lost Wes Morgan and we will see his injury tomorrow."

On Adrien Silva's debut: "It was very tough for him, to train and to make a lot of training sessions without playing with the team.

"He kept a good, positive attitude. It's a good thing to see him on the pitch and he can bring some good things for the team."

    Claude Puel and Adrien Silva
  6. 'We are unfortunate not to have 35 points'

    Burnley 1-2 Liverpool

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "We grew into the game, the second half was an even affair.

"On and off the pitch we have moved forward in a calendar year. We are becoming assured of ourselves in this division.

"We are playing a more mixed game now, last year we got it forwards more often but we are calmer now. We are resolute defensively, we have added to what we had. The quality has risen.

"To be on 34 points and be unfortunate to not have 35 shows what a season we have had."

  7. 'It was a cup final for Stoke'

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez speaking to Match of the Day: "I think the players were working very hard over the last few games and after the last result this one we needed to win. We started the game very well, defended well, we had a couple of problems when they played on the counter attack but overall we were playing well."

On Mark Hughes: "I think he did what he thought was important for them, to play this game like a final. They were working very hard and you could see the team spirit was there for them. For us it’s good, for them it’s bad, but for both teams you can see the players are working very hard."

On January transfers: "We know we are looking for something that can improve the team in different areas. The players are trying everything and I am pleased with them but if we can improve our squad we will try to."

    Rafael Benitez
  8. Post update

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

A damaging defeat for Stoke sends them closer to the dreaded drop zone. West Ham have two games in hand now as well.

    .
  9. 'We've got closer'

    Burnley 1-2 Liverpool

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "It's a frustrating one, I thought we had a point. It's very pleasing though to see how far we have come in a year, we are taking on these big teams in a different way now.

"It was a soft goal to win it - it happens, but it doesn't happen to us often. Our work ethic was tremendous, the belief was excellent. There are a lot of pleasing things, the bigger picture is we are pleased overall.

"2017 was a great year for us, we have got closer to teams who were out of sight. When the whistle blows we have a group of people who will give everything to win a game. That's a powerful thing.

"Liverpool were missing some big players but they still had four of their front five who cost £35m or something."

    Sean Dyche
  10. A big win

    Burnley 1-2 Liverpool

    .

Liverpool keep the pressure on Chelsea and Manchester United and it's now a seven-point gap between Spurs and fourth, albeit one with two games in hand to come.

  11. 'I am gutted - we played well'

    Leicester 3-0 Huddersfield

    Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield boss David Wagner speaking to Match of the Day: "I don't think so (the players were tired). Maybe in the second half it looked like this was the case, but in the first half we played well.

"We controlled the game and had the best chance of the first half. In the second half, we made an error before the first goal and left Riyad Mahrez alone.

"Unfortunately we lost our focus and concentration, we were 1-0 down and had to open up, left some spaces, which they used.

"I am gutted today because I think there was something in this game for us. In the end we have to say they deserve to win."

    David Wagner
  12. 'A fantastic attitude'

    Burnley 1-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

More from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: "A fantastic finish to the game. This is one of the toughest places to play all season.

"I like rotation, I love the quality of my squad and I am really pleased. It was not fantastic football but it was a fantastic attitude. Today it wasn't possible to play brilliantly but it was an open game, we had a massive setback with the equaliser but we changed it again - we haven't done that too often this year."

Jurgen Klopp celebrates with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
  13. 'Six points in two days'

    Burnley 1-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "A very difficult game, thee fixtures are really difficult to take. We did brilliant, the weather made it so hard, windy, rainy.

"Burnley are dong well, we denied them to do what they usually like to do. It took a while to score and then the next two goals were very similar.

"Did we deserve to win? I don't care. We got the three points.

"Adam Lallana was great, after four or five months out, performing like this. It's not easy at this time, the whole team applauded Sadio Mane when he came in because we needed that goal. He is not playing at his most fluent but a great goal.

"Six points in two days - I've never had that before."

    Jurgen Klopp

'Lies' by Arcade Fire is playing loudly at Turf Moor but no it's true - Ragnar Klavan did score the winner...

  16. 'We were clinical'

    Leicester 3-0 Huddersfield

    Leicester City

Leicester goalscorer Riyad Mahrez: "We did a great job and have the three points. It was a tough game, they are a good team and we needed to score first and open the game.

"We had more counter and more space, and we were clinical - at least today, because sometimes we score first and don't score the second goal.

"It was a good goal and important for the team."

    Riyad Mahrez
  17. 'Was it my goal?!'

    Burnley 1-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

    Liverpool celebrate

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan: "It was important - is it true that it is my goal?! Oh good. It was on the line so I wasn't sure. It is always hard here, that's a massive performance.

    "It was a crazy game."

  20. Post update

    Burnley 1-2 Liverpool

You can be critical of Liverpool conceding that late goal but you should then also praise them for rallying to win without a lot of key men. A most untypical winner too.
