Right, I doubt very much there are too many Republic of Ireland fans knocking around on this page for more reaction to that defeat. For that reason, I'm going to wrap things up. You can read my colleague Shamoon Hafez's take on the game here.

If you really fancy some reaction - or are keen on the closing stages of England's friendly with Brazil - then join Tom Rostance here.

Martin Keady: When even Nicklas Bendtner scores against you, you know it's not your night...

Javel Bleach:#Ireland scored too early. Rabbits in the headlights from then on!

  4. Post update

Roy Keane and Martin O'Neill stare ahead in silence as Denmark players and staff celebrate on the pitch. They are through to their fifth World Cup and first since 2010.

  5. FULL-TIME

    All over.

Heartbreak for the Republic of Ireland but delight for Denmark. The Danish are going to the 2018 World Cup.

  6. Post update

    Republic of Ireland 1-5 Denmark

Two minutes of time added on. Two minutes before the Denmark fans can get the party started in Dublin.

  7. GOAL - Republic of Ireland 1-5 Denmark

    Nicklas Bendtner pen

It does get worse for the hosts.

Nicklas Bendtner slams home the penalty and leaps high into the air in celebration.

  8. PENALTY TO DENMARK

    Republic of Ireland 1-4 Denmark

Nicklas Bendtner is fouled inside the box. Penalty to Denmark.

It could get worse for the Republic of Ireland.

  9. Post update

    Republic of Ireland 1-4 Denmark

Frustration setting in as Aiden McGeady catches Andreas Christensen with a late boot.

The Republic of Ireland players will want these final five minutes to pass quickly.

  10. SUBSTITUTION

    Republic of Ireland 1-4 Denmark

Denmark make their third and final change as Nicolai Jorgensen goes off. A familiar face comes on as ex-Arsenal man Nicklas Bendtner gets eight minutes on the pitch.

  11. Post update

    Republic of Ireland 1-4 Denmark

Ten minutes to go and the atmosphere has gone from the Aviva Stadium. The only sound is from the jubilant away fans.

Denmark look hungry to add to the scoreline.

Thor Jensen: Christian Eriksen doing a Messi. An incredible hattrick when Denmark needed it the most. What a player

  13. CLOSE!

    Republic of Ireland 1-4 Denmark

A chance for Shane Long to get a goal back as he is put through on goal. Kasper Schmeichel is quick off his line to close down the gap, forcing Long to attempt the lob... but the ball lands on the roof of the net.

  14. Post update

    Republic of Ireland 1-4 Denmark

It's a sad end to the Republic of Ireland's qualifying campaign but Christian Eriksen deserves to be at the World Cup. He's been involved in 14 goals in qualifying (11 goals and three assists). That's 10 more than any other Denmark player.

  15. GOAL - Republic of Ireland 1-4 Denmark

    Christian Eriksen

    Don't make a mistake, don't make a mistake, don't make a mistake.... oh.

A shocker by Stephen Ward as he fluffs his first touch as he attempts to deal with a ball into the box. Ward is off balance and by the time he can recover the excellent Christian Eriksen is on it in a flash to thunder a rocket of a shot into the net.

That's the hat-trick. Game. Set. Match.

Jason Carlin: Ireland game not over yet, we can still get these goals against this average Danish side remember Barca v PSG???? It’s got that same exciting feel to it....sort of.

  17. SUBSTITUTION

    Republic of Ireland 1-3 Denmark

Final change for Republic of Ireland with Shane Long entering the fray. Too late, arguably, to change the outcome of this match.

Ciaran Clark goes off as Martin O'Neill swells the attack.

  18. SUBSTITUTION

    Republic of Ireland 1-3 Denmark

Another change for Denmark as Yussuf Poulsen goes off. Applause from the away end, where the pocket of Danish fans are having a ball, a few probably checking their phones for hotel prices in Russia.

Striker Andreas Cornelius is on in Poulsen's place.
