  1. Post update

OK, that's all from us this afternoon.

Burnley beat the champions at home, Huddersfield tonked Palace on their top flight return, and then there was Wayne Rooney's sparkling goal back at Goodison.

If you're just joining in, go ahead and catch up on it all below.

Head over here for Brighton v Manchester City.

And over here for Middlesbrough v Sheffield United.

    Until the next time!

  2. 'It's Wayne's day'

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

    Stoke City

Stoke boss Mark Hughes: "The story is all about Wayne Rooney because he has won the game for Everton. The one man you don't want in those situations is Wayne.

"I'm disappointed with the result but not the performance."

On Jordan Pickford's late save to deny Xherdan Shaqiri an equaliser: "It was fantastic. Obviously Everton have invested a lot of money in their side. There didn't seem a great deal of difference between the two sides."

  3. 'We need to improve a lot'

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Everton boss Ronald Koeman: "The points are really welcome because you don't know what to expect on the first day. It wasn't the performance we like. The team looked nervous on the ball - that's the reason I changed the system at half-time. We need to improve a lot."

On Wayne Rooney scoring the winner: "Wayne showed he is still one of the best in his position. He was very comfortable on the ball, made good decisions and scored a great goal."

  4. 'A special moment'

    Everton 1-0 Stoke

Everton's Wayne Rooney, speaking to Match of the Day: "I'm delighted. It was a tough game but the most important thing is that you get off to a winning start.

"On a personal note I'm absolutely delighted to score the winning goal at Goodison Park - it was a special moment for me. There was a lot of relief and a lot of emotion came out in the celebration.

"It was an important goal just before half-time. I've felt at home since I first stepped in the training ground. I've been looking forward to this moment for a long time."

  5. 'We lacked that final product'

    West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth

Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic: "It was a difficult game for us and we got what we expected. We had enough possession and passes but we lacked that final product, and that is something we need to work on.

"To be beaten on the back post is difficult. It just was not our day. Generally we cope with set pieces well, but it was not meant to be."

  6. 'We are a big threat'

    West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom forward Jay Rodriguez said: "It is a great feeling to win. The lads worked extremely hard. Bournemouth are a good side.

"It is a fresh start and I love football, and to be given the opportunity to play is brilliant. I was dying to score. The main thing is to get the three points for the team.

"We are very well drilled and you can see that we work on our set pieces. We are a big threat and I think that showed today.

"We are a tight-knit squad and the lads made me feel welcome as soon as I came in. We want to win games and push up the table."

  8. 'We'd made it difficult for ourselves'

    Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

Andreas Christensen, Chelsea defender, at Stamford Bridge: "Everyone knows what's happened today. We are proud of our second half, we fought well, but we'd made it difficult for ourselves. Now we have to look forward.

"It felt like, once we scored our first, the belief grew in the stadium and the noise, everything, went to a higher level. In the end we could have got something from the game.

"We have to work in our next game at Tottenham how we played in the second half today."

  9. 'A fantastic three points'

    Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

More from Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "We scored some very good goals but in the second half we felt stuck. Did we expect this situation? No, if we're honest. And Chelsea have top class players who got themselves back into it.

"It was a fantastic three points and the referee, I just want to say, was fantastic today.

"Our mentality I was really pleased with, to see the game through. We had to get on, get the job done and I'm please we've done that. We are not naive - we know this is only the start of the season."

  10. 'They deserved the win'

    Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer: "If you analyse the game, it is quite simple. We started well but after 10 minutes the game changed. Tactically, we did not do what we spoke about and paid an expensive price. We were close to making it 2-1 and if we did, I had a feeling we would get a point.

"We were not pressing up top and they were allowed to get crosses too. We did not make the right choices and got punished.

"You cannot go suddenly from one to 10, you have to do it step-by-step. We showed some good football but a game does not last 75 minutes, you have to concenterate for 95 minutes.

"Huddersfield did a fantastic job and the compliments to them. They played how they always do, but if you lose 3-0, they deserve it."

  11. 'We're written off at the start of every season'

    Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

A delighted Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "Today big decisions changed the outcome, quite obviously. The first half pleased me because although Chelsea went to 10 men it was not easy. We kept going, kept probing and it's 3-0 at the interval. And it was weird at half-time because you have to decide how you're going to approach it from there.

"Winning away from home on the first days quietens down some stories - we're written off at the start of every season. It kills a few things off early doors.

"Chelsea have players of such calibre and to see the game through is so pleasing."

  12. 'I am ready to fight with these players'

    Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

More from Chelsea manager Antonio Conte: "We must focus on working very hard with these players. As for the transfer market, the club is trying to do the best. I am not worried, I am ready to fight with these players. I repeat: it is important for us to concentrate on our work, to be focused every day in training and to try to work in our best way. No excuses.

"Morata is very important and it's important that he now adapts himself to our philosophy - today he played a good game with the right intensity. Now he has to continue to work with all the rest of our players.

"I prefer not to answer questions about Diego Costa - for me it's in the past."

  13. Post update

    Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

How many times can you lose your head?

  14. 'We lost our heads'

    Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte: "The sending off of Cahill was a key moment, because to play the rest of the game with 10 and then nine men is not easy. In recent games we have finished with nine or 10 men. I have to try to adapt a new system and to anticipate playing with nine or 10 men in the next game. I don't want to comment on the referee, absolutely not.

"We tried until the end to reach a good result against Burnley - it was a pity because our fight in the second half was very good. But our first half we kept losing our heads - after the red card we lost our heads, conceded two goals and then it’s very difficult to change the final result."

  16. Post update

    Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield

    Love this from Wagner too.

Q: Will the players be able to keep their feet on the ground?

A: "Their feet are so heavy, they are not able to jump."

  17. Post update

    Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield

    Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner: "We came into the game quite well. Tom Ince missed a chance but we were clinical and had the right fight, attitude an togetherness. The result does not show how the game was because Palace had their chances too.

"Steve Mounie missed a big chance, we spoke about this rather than the two goals. He played well, coming into the Premier League with two goals, there is no better day for him."

  18. 'Vital to sign more players'

    West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth

    West Bromwich Albion

More from West Brom boss Tony Pulis: "They work hard, but we need to get some players in and quickly. I think the supporters and everybody around the football club wants to see that. They have to be players that will improve us and we have to work hard over the next 2 weeks.

"The squad is just not strong enough. We have 17 senior professionals and we are at the top age as well, so it just needs restructuring and everybody is aware of it.

The next few weeks are really vital."

  19. 'How we never scored more, I just don't know'

    West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Tony Pulis said: "We want everyone to chip in and the quality we got from set plays today was absolutely fantastic.

"How we never scored more than one I just don't know. We had the most shots on goal and the most corners. We had really good opportunities and chances, we are not a possession team.

"Jay Rodriguez has been fantastic during pre-season. He has brought a lot of energy to the football club. He looks as though he is going to score every time he gets the ball. Ahmed Hegazi looks like a really, really good buy. And you have got to give credit to Matt Phillips and Chris Brunt; the quality coming into the box was fantastic."

  20. Post update

    West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth

Tony Pulis' face made for very different reading. A home win, a brilliant showing from Jay Rodriguez and a debut winner from Ahmed Hegazi.

And what's that? Maybe a few more signings still to come?..
