Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho: "It was a good training session. A very good first half against a top Real side. In the second half we lost motivation, intensity and appetite to play against their youngsters. The players in the second half were disappointed not to play against their best players.
"We have one injury to Ander Herrera, I don't know how he is but it has to be painful to come off so soon.
"Three out of 10 penalties - that's pre-season. i didn't choose my best penalty takers."
Real Madrid manager Zinedine ZIdane: "I am very happy, overall it was a complete performance especially from the young players.
"We ended up with no injuries and that's the main thing for our first match.
"We competed well against a team with four or five games under their belts. We want to find our form fast."
Still waiting for a bit of reaction from Jose Mourinho...
Ander Herrera only lasted six minutes after coming on at half time before going off with an injury. We shall have to see how he is.
RegularJon: For the two biggest clubs in football, that was a truly shocking penalty shootout
Jibin George: I'd have seen a better penalty shootout if my Gran was playing against my four-year old niece. Great keeping though.
Manchester United face Barcelona on Wednesday in Maryland - home of the Washington Redskins - while Real Madrid play Manchester City on the same day in LA.
A 30% conversion rate. A rubbish exhibition of penalty taking but some good saves from both goalkeepers to be fair.
Manchester United take the bonus point for a 'win'.
Casemiro nailed one in the second half, Can he score again?
He smashes one against the bar!
Daley Blind should at least hit the target. Surely.
Straight down the middle.
Theo Hernandez for Real - wide!
This is a dreadful shootout.
Victor Lindelof for United - he's had a shocking 45 minutes! That was dire. Passed it down the middle.
Luis Miguel up for Real - De Gea gets a hand on it but it squeezes home.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan next up. Rolls it in.
Oscar next for Real Madrid - saved again!
We could be here all night...
Scott McTominay steps up for Manchester United - saved as well!
Mateo Kovacic - saved!
Anthony Martial goes first - over!
I've reset the scores for penalties. All set?
