  1. Post update

Right then, that's it from me for this evening. Feel free to catch up on it all below if you're just joining in.

For Arsenal, there are four league matches to go and an FA Cup final. Even with victory in each, there may be no Champions League next season - for the first time in 20 years.

Manchester United's bid for the top four will also continue. But they have another way in. Jose Mourinho's said it: It's all about the Europa League on Thursday.

    Until the next time!

  3. 'You want me to work for the BBC?'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Arsenal

BBC Sport's Jonathan Pearce speaking to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger:

    On Rob Holding:

"He had a nervous start. he looked a bit frozen. Overall I felt he played within himself. it's happened a few times - he's had a nervous starts. When he gains confidence he plays very well. He has a good future.

On a possible top four finish: "We want to win our games. Some teams that are safe continue to fight. Let's focus to win our games. Every win is important. We had a bad patch and seem to have recovered from it."

And asked by Jonathan whether they will be speaking to each other again next season?

"You want me to work for the BBC?"

  5. 'Xhaka has improved'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Arsenal

BBC Sport's Jonathan Pearce speaking to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger:

On the atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium: "It was a bit subdued although I feel we needed to be patient. We were defensively well organised. The first goal was a bit lucky and the second was a great goal.

On goalscorer Granit Xhaka's display: "Hehas improved from the start to now. He is slowly getting stature in the middle of the park."

On Welbeck: "That's the kind of goal you want from Danny.

"He has all the abilities a striker needs. Hopefully, that will give him a boost."

Trevor Heywood: Well done Gunners you showed the right attitude and spirit today. How Jose can say you were not better than MU is astonishing.

  7. 'There's a chance, but we need help'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a patiently built win where in the first half you could see we were a bit nervous, in the second half we took the edge off and scored the goals. It was a good win."

On switching to a 3-4-3 formation: "It gives us more defensive stability because we had a spell where we conceded too many goals. It is not all perfect but we are more defensively focused than we were a month ago."

On finally beating Jose Mourinho in a Premier League game: "We have had many draws as well and there were some fantastic teams that we played against. It is not manager against manager."

On whether Arsenal can still finish in the top four: "We still have a mathematical chance but we need some help. But the best help we can get is by winning our own games."

  8. Dat guy Welbz

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Welbeck

Anyone reckon Danny Welbeck might feel he has a point to prove against his former employers?

He scored his third goal in four appearances against Manchester United since leaving them in September 2014.

Arsenal's win means they've won successive home Premier League games against United for the first time since November 2001.

  9. 'A blessing for Rooney'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

More from Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho: "It was a disappointing result, but not individual performances.

"Wayne Rooney is another one who played. This game was a blessing for him. In the first half he had the best chance of the whole game. He just had to put the ball through Petr's legs. He's had shots and got into good positions. He's ready to make contributions towards the end of the season.

"Paul Pogba didn't play, Marcus Rashford played some minutes. Others didn't play so on Thursday we will have the team in very good conditions."

  10. 'Thursday is the match of the season'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Sport: "We made eight changes. We made eight.

"Of course, we knew we were not coming in our maximum power. That's a decision. We want to try to win the Europa Leaue - it's more important than finishing fourth. We needed to rest players. Our squad is short at this time. Today brave guys like Smalling, Jones and Mata - it's the first time they played football for seven weeks. They played 90 minutes. I'm very happy with the players and performance. We had big chances to score in the first half.

"The last trophy I won was three months ago. I didn't care about that. Thursday is the match of the season. I hope Old Trafford feels the same, because we need Old Trafford."

  11. Post update

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

So Manchester United are beaten for the first time in 13 matches - their last defeat was against Chelsea in the FA Cup in March.

It's their first defeat in the league since 23 October - 26 matches ago - also against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

  12. 'Everything for Thursday'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

More from Jose Mourinho: "It is all on the Europa League. We tried to play for a result today, you can say I made changes, but you cannot say we didn't try to win the game. Everything for Thursday now."

On making eight changes to his starting XI: "I feared some players couldn't play for 90 minutes so I felt I had to make changes.

"We need everybody. We have such a small squad at the moment so it is fantastic for Jones, Smalling and Mata to play minutes."

    Jose Mourinho
  13. 'Arsenal weren't better than us'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm disappointed with the result, not the performance. I liked individual performances and also collective performances.

"We lost because we didn't score and we had great chances to score before them. They had luck with that goal.

"I can't ask anymore from my players who haven't played a minute for several weeks - Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Juan Mata were all amazing.

"The team was good, organised, we tried to win, we played to win, we defended well and Arsenal weren't better than us in my opinion."

  15. Post update

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

It's as you were at the top for both Arsenal and Manchester United.

The Gunners' bid for a 21st consecutive Champions League spot is still out of their hands, but the gap on the top four is narrowing.

Manchester United still have the Europa League as a possible way in. They play Celta Vigo again on Thursday.

  16. 'We need to win all our remaining matches'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, speaking to Sky Sports: "I said a few weeks ago we have to win every game, and obviously we didn't do that against Tottenham.

"Let's just build on this win, hopefully we can win all of our other games and then see where that takes us."

  17. 'Hopefully we'll have a good end to the season'

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalscorer Danny Welbeck on Sky Sports: "It's really important to get the win. Taking into account our position in the table we need to be further up there. With this win hopefully we'll have a good end to the season.

"Obviously I grew up in the North West and it's a special place in my life. When I get on that pitch it's just business. When you score you have to be happy - it's only natural."

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

Aaron Ramsey is presented with the man of the match award, Danny Welbeck handing it over. I think you get a heavy luminous object with Premier League branding.

Before the goals, it would have been David de Gea. He made two fine stops today - the first to deny Ramsey's low shot early on.

RegularJon: Hopefully this is a blessing in disguise. The win that keeps Wenger at Arsenal?

Ajay Patel: This is probably the match that seals the fate Rooney's playing career at Manchester United.

James Foster: The simple fact of the matter is that Arsenal played better today and deserve to win. Man Utd nowhere near good enough.

  20. Post update

    Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd

    Mark Schwarzer

Ex-Middlesbrough keeper on BBC Radio 5 live

I think Arsenal have been OK. I wouldn't come away from this performance with a lot of excitement or think they have turned the corner.

They have come in for some criticism, and rightly so. They are the only team in the top six who have not got more points than they had at the same stage last season. So there is a good case to say they haven't progressed.

Manchester United will be disappointed with the result and performance. But there was only a key five-minute period which has killed this game for them.
