  1. That's it for today, folks

    FT: Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

    Sheffield Wednesday

Well, that was a terrific 17:30 BST game game to conclude today's EFL coverage. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. There could be some good celebrations tonight in the city of Sheffield...

Earlier, Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers clinched promotion to the Championship and League One respectively, on a dramatic afternoon.

Coventry and Chesterfield are both still alive in League One, for another week at least, after precious home wins, while Nottingham Forest and Bristol City fans will be very happy tonight too.

Thanks for your company today - have a great evening.

  2. As it stands

    The bottom six

    Bottom six

The big winners at the bottom today were Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, who both won at home to move further clear of the drop zone, while Burton also got a point at home to Aston Villa.

All that contributed to a bad day for Blackburn, who lost at home to Barnsley and are now four points adrift.

Wigan looked doomed as they trailed - twice - at home to already-relegated Rotherham, but they fought back to win and stay seven points adrift, still fighting.

In 18th, it was another bad day for Gianfranco Zola's Birmingham, who are six points above Blackburn and still not yet safe.

  3. As it stands

    The top six

    Top six

Newcastle stay second, 10 points above third-placed Huddersfield - who have a game in hand - and two points behind leaders Brighton.

Sheffield Wednesday are back up to sixth, two points above seventh-placed Fulham and seven points above eighth-placed Derby, with all three having won today.

  4. Post update

    FT: Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

Shall we have a look at how that win for Sheffield Wednesday has affected the top six? Let's...

  5. 'A special group of players'

    FT: Northampton 1-2 Sheff Utd

    John Fleck

John Fleck scored the winner as Sheffield United won 2-1 at Northampton and were promoted to the Championship.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder: "Just incredible, just life changing. I'm quite emotional about it really.

"I've just spoken to the players, who deserve to go down as a special group of players that have achieved a promotion.

"Playing in front of 24,000 fans, week-in week-out, everybody expects us to win and we have done that."

  6. 'We knew what we had to do'

What a tense finish! 50 seconds remain.

  9. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

Jonjo Shelvey blasts the free-kick straight at the wall. Relief for the hosts.

  10. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

Free-kick to Newcastle just outside the area. Dangerous position.

  11. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

Jose Semedo wins the hosts a throw-in on the halfway line and the home crowd cheer it almost like a corner.

The Owls need to try and wind the clock down.

  12. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

Four minutes of added time have been indicated. Can the hosts hold on?

  13. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

Now, from a Newcastle corner, Aleksandar Mitrovic gets his head to the ball and forces Keiren Westwood into a save.

The visitors are right back in this! But time is running out...

  14. Shelvey pulls one back

    Sheff Wed 2-1 Newcastle

    Jonjo Shelvey

For once, Keiren Westwood is beaten. He can only spill Aleksandar Mitrovic's effort straight to the on-rushing Jonjo Shelvey and the Newcastle midfielder finally gets a goal he has thoroughly deserved.

  15. GOAL: Sheff Wed 2-0 Newcastle

    Jonjo Shelvey

    Game on?

  16. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-0 Newcastle

Brighton and Newcastle's recent form has roughly mirrored one-another's for a fair while.

But, with the Seagulls winning on Friday, this weekend looks set to see them change places for real.

Could this be a day when Newcastle look back and say they lost the title?

There's still a long way to go before things get to that stage, but this could prove decisive.

  17. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-0 Newcastle

Newcastle win a corner straight down the other end. But Jordan Rhodes, of all people, does very well to get the ball clear.

  18. Post update

    Sheff Wed 2-0 Newcastle

Lovely football from the hosts, as Daniel Pudil does well and eventually Jordan Rhodes has the chance to flick goalwards but was clearly offside.

  19. 'Tammy Abraham really cares'

    FT: Bristol City 3-1 Wolves

    Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham scored twice as Bristol City beat Wolves to move four points clear of the bottom three.

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson: "Tammy really cares. He actually apologises to me when he plays poorly, which says a lot about his maturity and character.

"I love him to bits and enjoy working with him. It has been a tough learning experience for him in the Championship this season against a lot of tough defenders.

"His finish for his second goal said everything about him. Most of his goals come from close range because his movement is so good."

  20. SUBSTITUTION (Newcastle)

    Sheff Wed 2-0 Newcastle

The visitors bring on Aleksandar Mitrovic for Matt Ritchie.
