    Bye for now.

  2. Post update

I wonder what Jurgen Klopp's perfect Sunday looks like? Antique Roadshow? Meat and two veg? Some Megadeath on his stereo?

  3. 'Players knew they needed to show a reaction'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

More from Jurgen Klopp: "I had no idea that first half would happen but the boys are serious.

"They were not happy with their own performance and knew they needed to show a reaction.

"Of course the atmosphere at training was not like it is before a friendly game this week. Everything was more on the angry side.

"Today the pressure was on us but we dealt with it.

"We had a really bad period. We are still around, not with Chelsea but with the rest.

"It shows we are able to do some good things. To qualify for the Champions League has top be our aim. We need this performance consistently."

  4. 'A massive gap to Chelsea'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "If Chelsea go 12 points clear it is a big problem, but not only for us.

"It is difficult to fight for the Premier League if you show that performance, that lack of desire to play for a win. If you start a game like we start then it is very difficult.

"We never coped with the tempo of their game. Liverpool deserve the credit.

"It will be difficult for anyone to catch Chelsea, it is a massive gap. More difficult than before.

"We are second in the table, my feeling now is not so good but we need to recover after defeat and try to fight. We need to focus on the Europa League and the FA Cup before our next league game."

  5. 'Sunday will be perfect'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

More from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Sport: "Life is pretty difficult and different when you have no results and don't perform like you think you are able to, even when you win.

"Sunday will be perfect. The performance was fantastic, the intensity unbelievable, both teams, but our side maybe more.

"We caused them problems. The first half we started off really good and our transition game was fantastic. In the second half we improved a lot defensively.

"All over it was a good performance and a deserved win.

"With a performance like tonight we are a really strong side. That is what we have to try and bring on the pitch every week."

  6. Post update

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino: "The second half was different. We showed more aggression but we didn't have enough chances.

"The first half was very poor. We need to to be honest. If we want to fight for the top of the league we cannot accept that.

"We have only lost three games so far and the three games were very difficult away games.

"We need to show more, in the end we will fight for top six but it's difficult to fight for the Premier League."

  7. Post update

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Tottenham manager Maurico Pochettino, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think you can see on the pitch in the first half we were poor.

"It was difficult to achieve the same intesity as Liverpool. They were better. I have nothing to say, nothing to complain about. It is true we are one point above them in the table but today we didn't show that.

"I am not angry. Sometimes you do not play in the way you want and we need to analyse and be calm."

  8. 'You saw a team that is not ready to fight for the Premier League'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "They were better than us and fully deserved to win. We started the game very sloppy.

"It is difficult to understand, I am very disappointed in our first-half display. Second half we reached their level but it is really late.

"The whole team were poor. It is about balance and today it was poor, that is the truth.

"We are in a position that is up to us. But if you show like today that you cannot cope with the pressure to play to win the league then it is difficult to challenge and fight for the Premier League.

"In the first 45 minutes you saw a team that is not ready to fight for the Premier League."

  9. Post update

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

More from Jurgen Klopp: "It was difficult to defend against us in the first half, we had four or five players in the area, it was like the early part of the season.

"We have the potential to do much better, the next chance is against Leicester and we have to use this time now to start with a little pre-season."

  10. 'We have the potential to do much better'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "It was how we have to play against Tottenham. We had to show a reaction and it was perfect. It was an outstanding performance offensively in the first half, and defensively in the second half.

"We could have scored again. There were some outstanding individual performances. We understand it is a situation that we have to go through together.

"On a physical level there were some brilliant displays from Henderson, Wijnaldum, Firmino - My God I don't think I've seen a better performance from a striker without scoring."

  13. 'We need to play like that every week'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson: "I thought we played well, even without the ball we were still in control.

"We were much better in terms of performance and the result. It's a start in the right direction and we need to keep going like that until the end of season.

"Tonight you could see a lot of good things in our play. We have been frustrated in recent games. Today it was nice to have good performance."

Asked why Liverpool have had better results against the top six than teams lower in the league, Henderson said: "That needs to change - quickly. We need to solve that issue.

"That's the level set. We need to play like that every week. Tonight was a big win and a big performance."

  14. 'Liverpool battered Tottenham'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

    David Thompson

Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio Merseyside

Tonight will be a decisive moment in Liverpool's season. If they'd dropped down to sixth that would have been demoralising for them, and top four would have become hard. But now it's a realistic aspiration.

They battered Tottenham, limiting them to a single shot on target. I just thought Liverpool were fantastic today with work-rate, effort and desire.

That performance is the benchmark for the rest of the season.

  15. 'We controlled the game'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

    Sadio Mane

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane: "What is important is the team. We have had a difficult few weeks but that can happen in football.

"We are all going in the same direction. We deserved to win.

"We controlled the game from beginning to end."

  16. 'Fuelled by hurt'

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

    David Thompson

Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio Merseyside

Liverpool took their hurt from recent results and Tottenham bore the brunt of it tonight.

Terry Mahoney: A regulation 2-0 home win for Liverpool against the team in 2nd place. Has someone turned the clock back to the seventies?

Arun Gurung: So so disappointed with the Spurs side. Today was the acid test and they failed badly. Can't be title contenders like this.

David Simpson: THAT was heavy metal football.

  18. Post update

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

And, in doing so, they may really have left the title race all over bar the blue ribbons.

If Chelsea beat Burnley tomorrow they will be 12 (twelve) points clear.

The race for the top four is cracking, but the title race has just one nag in it.

    Klopp and Alli

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

Be honest, did anyone really think that was the way this one would go?

Quite brilliant from Liverpool, who end a five-game winless run in such impressive fashion.

    Klopp reacts

    Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham

Wonderful reception for match-winner Sadio Mane. He's replaced by that fella from Pointless, Alexander Arnold.
