    Sunderland 0-4 Southampton

    All over.

Sunderland win 4-0 one week, lose 4-0 the next.

    Southampton excellent.

  2. GOAL - Sunderland 0-4 Southampton

    Shane Long

    Long to Ward-Prowse.

    Ward-Prowse to Long.

    Long slots home.

Too easy from Sunderland's point of view. Clinical from Southampton.

  3. GOAL - Sunderland 0-3 Southampton

    Jason Denayer OG

Bertrand sprints down the left, crosses, and with Shane Long lurking, Jason Denayer converts the ball into his own net.

  4. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

A Sunderland free-kick narrowly misses Jason Denayer.

The home side muster a corner, it comes to nothing.

Borini heads wide moments later from Bryan Ovideo's cross.

That was possibly the best chance they have created all game.

  5. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Southampton attack again. Shane Long looks to be in a prime position to score but he lets the ball roll through to the keeper.

He thought he was offside. I don't think he was.

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Darron Gibson's full debut comes to an end. He's replaced by Wahbi Khazri.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg replaces Dusan Tadic for the visitors.

  7. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Nathan Redmond shows his express pace down the left, racing into the area.

He gets a shot away but it goes straight at Mannone.

Southampton look far more likely to score.

Borini goes in for a tackle. I'd forgotten he'd come on to be honest.

  8. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Some Sunderland fans are starting to drift out of the Stadium of Light.

Who can blame them? Their side have hardly threatened in this game.

  9. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Almost an instant impact from Shane Long.

Cedric swings a high ball in and Long, under no pressure, is allowed to head at goal but Mannone pushes it over.

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

There'll be no hat-trick for Manolo Gabbiadini who's been replaced by Shane Long.

    Gabbiadini off
  11. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

    Sunderland are chasing shadows.

Redmond beats Billy Jones down the left, crosses to James Ward-Prowse who heads a yard wide.

  12. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Oriol Romeu has been really impressive in central midfield for Southampton.

The former Barcelona and Chelsea man has made 60 passes, more than any other player, and made three tackles and four interceptions.

James Ward-Prowse tries his luck from 25 yards but his shot goes narrowly wide.

The visitors are attacking at ease.

  13. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

First shot on target from Sunderland.

It is nothing to celebrate though, a 30-yard strike from Didier Ndong which is tamely straight at Fraser Forster.

Ironic cheers from the home fans

  14. CLOSE!

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Southampton are just wearing Sunderland down here.

After keeping the ball at ease, Dusan Tadic's stinging shot is saved by Mannone.

Adnan Januzaj breaks upfield for Sunderland, but like most that his team have tried in this game, it comes to nothing.

    Tadic shot

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

One Italian has scored twice in this game and now Sunderland bring on one of their own.

Fabio Borini on for Sebastian Larsson.

  16. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

The home side finally mount an attack in this second half.

They're yet to have a shot on target in the match.

The attack ends when Seb Larsson plays a long ball up to Adnan Januzaj. I don't think I've seen the Belgian win many aerial challenges in his career.

  17. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Sunderland are living dangerously (if 2-0 down at home isn't already dangerous).

Southampton play 'keep ball' on the edge of the area before Jason Denayer flies into a risky challenge, managing to make some contact with the ball.

  18. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Manolo Gabbiadini almost has his hat-trick.

A Southampton corner comes in from the left and the Italian is allowed to swing a boot at the ball, diverting it on target but not enough power to beat Mannone.

That was really poor defending from the home side.

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Back under way at the Stadium of Light.

Midfielder Steven Pienaar replaces John O'Shea at half-time.

O'Shea had been struggling with a hamstring injury before the game and I'd assume that means a switch to 4-4-2 for Sunderland.

  20. Post update

    Sunderland 0-2 Southampton

Southampton really grew into that half after Sunderland had the better of the opening stages.

Ryan Bertrand (number 21) has looked threatening, pushing high up from full-back on the left-hand side.
