  5. What that means for the table

FT: Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City, Nottingham Forest 3-1 Birmingham City

Two surprise results this evening? You could say so.

Cardiff are out of the relegation places and up to 19th, while Nottingham Forest move into 13th.

Fifth-placed Bristol City and sixth-placed Birmingham stay exactly where they are, in the play-off places - until tomorrow, at least.

  6. 'We need to keep going'

    FT: Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

Cardiff defender Sol Bamba told Sky Sports: "It's been the perfect debut, but it's about the team. We've been working all week on becoming difficult to beat and we did well.

"There's a long way to go, today was a good step forward, it was a derby so it's good for the fans, but we need to keep going."

    Nottingham Forest 3-1 Birmingham City

    Apostolos Vellios

All over at the City Ground.

Forest safely up into mid-table and Blues are beaten away from home in the league for the first time this season.

Thoughts turn now to Forest striker Nicklas Bendtner, who left the field on a stretcher early in the second half. Hopefully it's not too serious a problem for the former Arsenal man.

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

Neil Warnock punches the air in delight as the referee's final whistle goes. Bristol City pushed and pushed at the end, but if ever the phrase "too little, too late" was appropriate it was here.

    Sol Bamba is Cardiff's match-winner.

  9. Post update

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

Have Neil Warnock's side done enough now? Cardiff have the ball and we're into the seventh and final minute of stoppage time.

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

    Lee Johnson

Lex Immers has now gone into the book for a late challenge on Lee Tomlin, as Bristol City continue to knock on the door.

    Three minutes left.

  11. Post update

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

Bristol City are giving this a real good go - and have probably created as much in stoppage time as the previous 90 minutes.

Luke Freeman twists and turns onto his left foot, but can only send a curling shot just wide. Very close, very unlucky.

  12. Post update

    Nottingham Forest 3-1 Birmingham City

Eight minutes of stoppage time at the City Ground. Eight.

Much of that will be for the injury suffered by Nicklas Bendtner early in the second half.

    Forest still 3-1 up.

    Nicklas Bendtner
  13. Post update

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

Oh Bobby Reid, how on earth have you missed this?

Joe Bryan's low, whipped cross is crying out to be tucked home by the Bristol City substitute - but Reid sends it high over Ben Amos' crossbar.

Will that be the moment? Not necessarily - we're into seven minutes of stoppage time.

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

This game is really drifting now, broken up by substitutions, poor challenges, a Cardiff side keen to see time out and a Bristol City team frustrated not to be level.

Robins right-back Mark Little goes into the book for a poor challenge on Lex Immers.

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

    Rickie Lambert

Cardiff forward Rickie Lambert is the next to make way, replaced by Anthony Pilkington up front.

There's seven minutes to go in the Severnside derby.

  16. GOAL (Hildeberto Pereira)

    Nottingham Forest 3-1 Birmingham City

Another superb Nottingham Forest goal surely seals all three points against Birmingham.

Hildeberto Pereira finishes brilliantly with a first-time shot from Ben Osborn's low cross.

  17. Post update

    Nottingham Forest 2-1 Birmingham City

    Gary Rowett

About 10 minutes and stoppage time for Birmingham to force an equaliser at Nottingham Forest.

Blues boss Gary Rowett has thrown on Clayton Donaldson from the bench, and the striker's drawn the ire of the home crowd by clashing with Forest goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic.

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

Tammy Abraham has had some really fine days and nights for Bristol City so far this season, but this won't be one of them.

The on-loan Chelsea striker is withdrawn for Callum O'Dowda having, in truth, not really made too much of an impression.

  19. Post update

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

    Dafydd Pritchard

BBC Sport Wales at Cardiff City Stadium

    Lee Johnson and Neil Warnock

Goals, fights, a noisy crowd. The Cardiff City Stadium hasn't been treated to a club game this entertaining for an age.

This was exactly the kind of visceral encounter Neil Warnock would have envisaged for his first game in charge of Cardiff.

  20. Post update

    Cardiff 2-1 Bristol City

This game is just starting to get a little tetchy, no doubt sparked by the circumstances surrounding Lee Tomlin's goal.

Joe Bennett piles forward and drills a shot towards goal, but Frank Fielding can watch that past his post easily enough.

We're into the final 15 minutes at the Cardiff City Stadium.
