  1. Post update

That's it then for a pretty dramatic night of EFL Cup action. Gillingham and Northampton produced the biggest shocks, sending Premier League Watford and West Brom out at the first hurdle.

For reports on all 21 games head here. That's it from us, I'm off to rest my aching fingers in ice water after all that typing.

    See you later.

  2. Reading through on penalties

Reading 2-2 MK Dons (4-2 on penalties)

Callum Harriott had the chance to put Reading through, but missed. George Williams then scored for MK Dons to leave Jordan Obita needing to score to send Reading though, and he put it away no problem.

It is Reading who are the final team tonight to seal their place in the third round.

Reading 2-2 MK Dons (3-1 on penalties)

It's getting worse for MK Dons as Stephen Quinn scores from the spot for Reading but Samir Carruthers' effort is saved.

Score the next one, and Reading are through...

Reading 2-2 MK Dons (2-1 on penalties)

Next up is Evans for Reading...and he scores. Reeves now for MK Dons...and it hits the bar!

Reading 2-2 MK Dons (1-1 on penalties)

For the sake of my sanity, please can this be a nice straightforward shootout?

Williams scores the first for Reading, Upson responds by slotting home MK Dons' first one.

Derby 1-1 Carlisle (14-13 on pens)

    Derby are through! Finally...

Timi Elsnik is the man charged with getting everybody out of Pride Park and on the way pressure. Cool as you like! Elsnik converts as Derby see off League Two side Carlisle.

Derby 1-1 Carlisle (13-13 on pens)

Is 13 going to be unlucky for someone? Yep, poor Carlisle's Mike Jones. His effort is saved by Scott Carson. Derby to win it...

    Reading 2-2 MK Dons

The whistle goes and on we go to penalties...

Derby 1-1 Carlisle (10-10 on pens)

Back round to the start. Nick Blackman, who was Derby's first penalty taker, steps up again...same result. Don't go to bed yet.

  10. GOAL - Reading 2-2 MK Dons

    Kabongo Tshimanga (118 mins)

    Late, late drama!

Two minutes to go and Kabongo Tshimanga draws MK Dons level. This one is going to penalties, unless anyone fancies being a hero?

Derby 1-1 Carlisle (8-8 on pens)

Talk about tense. Derby don't know who to pick as their next penalty taker. It's Scott Carson. You know it's getting hairy when the keepers are going up. No messing about from the former England international.

  12. GOAL - Reading 2-1 MK Dons

    Callum Harriott (114 mins)

Callum Harriott with a big goal for Reading. He finishes from close range to put the Championship side ahead with six minutes to go in extra time...

Derby 1-1 Carlisle (6-6 on pens)

How long is this going to go on for? Derby and Carlisle are into sudden-death spotkicks...

The League Two visitors are going first, they keep scoring, but Derby keep holding their nerve to level. On we go...

I'm thinking Liverpool v Middlebrough here...

The big shock of the night as League One Northampton send West Brom out on penalties.
