    Garth Crooks

Former Spurs striker on Final Score

"Whatever the speculation is around Diego Costa supposedly leaving Chelsea in January, he buries this. And what I like about it is, he is cold about the finish. He take his time, turns inside the defender, and slots it home."

  20. GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 Norwich

    Diego Costa

Diego Costa shoots to score Chelsea's first

Breakthrough. Norwich's stubborn resistance is finally broken as quick thinking from Cesc Fabregas sends the ball forward to Diego Costa via a free-kick. the striker cuts inside Ryan Bennett and curls a low shot into the far corner. Fabregas assist, Costa goal. So familiar last season, but so rare in this. It has done the job for the Blues today.

Now Nemanja Matic tries his luck from range. It flies high and wide.

Soon after, Eden Hazard cuts to the byline on the right and crosses low between the Norwich defence and keeper. Again, there isn't a blue shirt in sight.

The home crowd are not happy.

  24. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Cesc Fabregas goes alone with a shot from range, but he doesn't catch it right and John Ruddy is able to dive to his left to save low down. It is testimony to Norwich's discipline that there was nothing else on.

"The one thing Chelsea haven't done is managed to sustain any attacking pressure. You have to credit Norwich, they have been nice and compact but still.

Kurt Zouma tries a volley for Chelsea
  26. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

If Chelsea are going to get a goal, you suspect Eden Hazard will be involved. The midfielder gets to the byline again and digs out a cross, which has the Norwich defence stretching to head clear with two Chelsea players waiting in the box.

  27. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

It is all Chelsea at the start of this half. A block from Jonny Howson wins them a corner which finds Kurt Zouma but his volley flies well over. He had plenty of space to do much better.

  28. Post update

  31. KICK-OFF

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

We are back under way at the Bridge.

  32. HALF-TIME

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

A very entertaining 45 minutes comes to an end. Chelsea will be frustrated. They have had most of the ball but have been held at bay. Norwich have been disciplined and defensive but committed when they have broken. They have arguably had the best chance of the half, forcing John Terry into a superb block from Sebastien Bassong's shot.

    Jose Mourinho looks frustrated
  33. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Into the final moments of the half and Chelsea pile forward. Kenedy is in an advanced position and sets up Diego Costa but his shot is blocked. The ball goes behind off a Norwich man but there won't be time for the corner...

  34. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

What a challenge from John Terry! The Chelsea defender throws himself in front of a Sebastien Bassong shot in the box following a corner and prevents his side conceding.

Then, straight down the other end, John Ruddy proves equally heroic for his side to block a goal-bound shot from Diego Costa with his boot.

That is the best 30 seconds of the match.

  35. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

  36. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

A penalty shout for Chelsea now as the ball is fed into the feet of Diego Costa who looks to get past Sebastien Bassong and falls under a challenge. The defender was using all his strength to try and keep the striker from a shot. Was it an illegal attempt to stop him? I don't think so. The Spaniard just wasn't strong enough.

  37. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Eden Hazard has done most of his work down the left so far, but now he pops up on the right to produce a superb run and pull-back from the byline. It fizzes straight across the six-yard box. Where was Diego Costa?

Chelsea maintain the pressure and Cesc Farbegas has a pop from range, which John Ruddy is equal to with a firm save to palm away. Norwich are digging in.

  43. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Well done Jonny Howson. The Norwich midfielder has to time his tackle on Willian in the box to perfection and does just that and then comes away with the ball, denying the home side a shot at goal and any validity to shouts for a penalty.

  44. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Norwich can't get out of their own half at the moment. Pedro's cross is aimed for Willian in the box and would have found him for a clear header on goal but for a small flick off a Norwich defender's head. The screw is being turned.

"I'd really like to see a lot more of Hazard on the ball. He was so good last season when he played most of the time on the flank, cutting in. I'd like to see him swap sometimes with Willian."

Willian picks out Pedro in an advanced position but the Chelsea winger's shot is off target. They've yet to properly click in attack, but the Blues' quality is there for all to see.

They demonstrate this again as Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and finally Pedro link up to set up Diego Costa in the box but his first-time effort to steer the ball into the net goes wrong and the ball ends in the stand behind the goal.

Chelsea with a good period of pressure on the edge of the Norwich box, but every yellow shirt is packed in the box to keep the home side at bay. They do concede a first corner, though, which John Terry darts to the near post to meet but flicks just past the near post.

  55. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Cesc Fabregas with a chance for Chelsea as he is found in the box by a cut-back from the byline from Eden Hazard, The Spaniard is surrounded by yellow shirts and can only clip the ball high and wide.

There is a bit of pressure on Fabregas. He hasn't started this season with anywhere near the effectiveness he did the last and was left out of the Blues' starting XI for their last game - the defeat at Stoke.

  56. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Nathan Redmond is going to be a key figure for Norwich, using his pace on the break. It is exactly that which earns the Canaries a second corner, which Branislav Ivanovic gets his head to before Pedro runs the ball away down the left. Be interesting to see how Kenedy gets on today. He is normally a forward player but is at left-back today.

  57. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Norwich

Like the number on his back, Eden Hazard is playing the number 10 role behind Diego Costa for Chelsea. Willian is to his right and Pedro his left.

As expected, it is a five-man midfield for Norwich, with Dieumerci Mbokani given the tough task of lone front man.

  58. Post update

If Norwich are to cause Mourinho and his side further consternation today they will have to reverse a pretty woeful away record, which has seen them win just one on the road this season.

  72. A fresh(ish) start?

    Chelsea v Norwich (15:00 GMT)

Willian, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa

This afternoon's game could be seen as something of a fresh start for Mourinho and his team, many of whom have had a week or two of distance from the club and its woes courtesy of an international break.

A lot of damage has been done but there is still 26 games to go and time to salvage something from the wreckage of their title defence.

  73. Another must win for Mourinho

    Chelsea v Norwich (15:00 GMT)

    Jose Mourinho

Lose to West Ham and he's gone. A defeat to Liverpool will be his last. Stoke away? A must win.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly been dealing with the impending sack for the past month and yet he remains in place to lead his champions into their latest attempt at resurrection, at home against Norwich this afternoon.

Will today be the day that Chelsea return to form, or are Norwich about to deliver the knock-out blow? One way or another, something has got to give.
