  2. Post update

Our man in Spain isn't looking forward to more Cristiano Ronaldo headlines.

  3. Post update

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez had been criticised after a goalless draw on the opening day. Gareth Bale was under pressure too.

The perfect response for all concerned.

Three minutes left for James Rodriguez or Gareth Bale to score a hat-trick.

  7. GOAL - Real Madrid 5-0 Real Betis

    Gareth Bale

What a way to answer the critics. This is a fantastic goal - most of them in this game have been. Gareth Bale picks the ball up on the halfway line, runs towards the goal and unleashes a venomous drive from 30 yards out with hits the post and goes in.

    Gareth Bale
  8. YELLOW CARD

Real Madrid substitute Casemiro is booked for a stray elbow on Didier Digard, who is off getting treatment as he's bleeding.

Gareth Bale has a sniff at goal as he chases a through ball but keeper Antonio Adan comes flying out of his box to clear.

    Gareth Bale

  11. Real Madrid 4-0 Real Betis

Cristiano Ronaldo hits a low free-kick just around the wall but it's easily held by Antonio Adan.

Guarantee he'll be livid not to have scored despite the scoreline.

    Cristiano Ronaldo
  12. HITS THE WOODWORK

Incredible scenes as Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos pulls off a bicycle kick and hits the post. What an attempt.

  13. SUBSTITUTION

Real Madrid bring on midfielder Mateo Kovacic, a summer signing from Inter Milan, for the second consecutive game.

It's an all-Croatian substitution as Luka Modric comes off.

  14. Real Madrid 4-0 Real Betis

Real Betis's Alvaro Cejudo lines up a shot from 25 yards but it hits his own team-mate on the back and goes wide for a goal-kick.

  15. Real Madrid 4-0 Real Betis

Twenty minutes to go. Real Betis boss Pepe Mel, who led the side to the second division title in the summer, looks on but he knows this game is gone.

  16. Post update

  17. Valencia sign Abdennour

Valencia have signed Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, who was a reported target of Chelsea.

  18. SUBSTITUTION

Real Madrid bring on Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro, who spent last season on loan at Porto. Toni Kroos is the man being replaced.

  19. Real Madrid 4-0 Real Betis

Cristiano Ronaldo has a shot cleared off the line. It's not his night despite his team's dominance.

  20. Get Involved

  21. PENALTY SAVED

Who needs David De Gea? Keylor Navas guesses right and keeps out Ruben Castro's kick.

The Costa Rican was a couple of steps off his line but he gets away with it.

  22. PENALTY TO REAL BETIS

Raphael Varane brings down Jorge Molina on the edge of the box. He's booked too.

  23. Real Madrid 4-0 Real Betis

It's almost 5-0. Substitute Isco plays in Cristiano Ronaldo with a reverse pass but his shot from an angle is saved by Antonio Adan.

  24. SUBSTITUTION

Real Madrid bring on Isco and with everyone expecting him to replace Luka Modric, it's actually Karim Benzema who comes off. He was making his return from an ankle injury.

Betis bring on Didier Digard for Dani Ceballos in midfield.

  25. GOAL - Real Madrid 4-0 Real Betis

    James Rodriguez

This might be even better than his first! Toni Kroos's shot is only as far as James Rodriguez, who flicks the ball up and acrobatically volleys it home.

    Game definitely over.

    James Rodriguez
  26. GOAL - Real Madrid 3-0 Real Betis

    Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema kills the game off with a close-range header from Gareth Bale's right-wing cross.

It was a good passing move from Madrid with James Rodriguez playing a one-two on the edge of the box before finding Bale.

    Karim Benzema
  27. KICK-OFF - Real Madrid 2-0 Real Betis

    Second half is under way.

Isco does appear to be warming up in case Luka Modric ends up coming off.

  28. SUBSTITUTION

But Real Betis do make a change and it's an attacking one. Defender Francisco Molinero is replaced by forward Jorge Molina.

  29. Real Madrid 2-0 Real Betis

Players are back out for the second half, Luka Modric looks fit to play. Isco had appeared set to come on before the break.

  30. Get Involved

  31. Post update

I spoke earlier about how Carlos Kameni was almost Malaga's hero as he kept them in the game against Barcelona for so long. Turns out it was his best performance yet in La Liga (in terms of saves)

  32. Story of the first half

    Stats
  33. HALF-TIME - Real Madrid 2-0 Real Betis

No injury time whatsoever. Real Madrid in control at the break.

Luka Modric will have 15 minutes to prove his fitness.

    Rafael Benitez
  34. Real Madrid 2-0 Real Betis

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is down in pain, he appears to have hurt an ankle in a sliding tackle - possibly while trying to avoid it.

  35. Real Madrid 2-0 Real Betis

Real Betis should be back in this game. They come forward and Francisco Molinero bursts into the box and finds Ruben Castro, who has the chance to fire home from 12 yards but he takes a touch, and then another, and keeper Keylor Navas seizes on the uncertainty to smother the ball at the forward's feet.

  36. Get Involved

  37. GOAL - Real Madrid 2-0 Real Betis

    James Rodriguez

That's a genuinely brilliant strike by James Rodriguez. The free-kick is out on the right side of the penalty area, keeper Antonio Adan leaves space at the near post which might have been appealing for most. But instead the Colombian absolutely blasts the ball across the goal, off the post and in.

    James Rodriguez
  38. YELLOW CARD

Real Betis defender Francisco Molinero is booked for fouling Cristiano Ronaldo on the side of the penalty area.

  39. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Betis keeper Antonio Adan has been busy so far. He used to play for Real Madrid - he was the guy who replaced Iker Casillas when he was dropped by Jose Mourinho the first time.

  40. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Cristiano Ronaldo is played in on goal and beats defender German Pezzella but Antonio Adan does well to come out and deny the Portuguese.

    Cristiano Ronaldo
  41. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Marcelo's pass to Karim Benzema is slightly behind the French striker, whose first touch takes the ball away from him. Madrid get a corner but it comes to nothing.

  42. YELLOW CARD

Real Betis have Juan Manuel Vargas booked for clattering Cristiano Ronaldo with a high arm.

  43. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Betis are in this game now - they're doing as much attacking as Madrid are after that incessant start. Ruben Castro just fails to find his striker in an attack for the visitors.

But moments later Karim Benzema is just caught offside.

    Alvaro Cejudo
  44. YELLOW CARD

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos is the first player booked as he wiped out Cristiano Piccini on the halfway line.

  45. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Madrid right-back Danilo has his second effort of the game, which is deflected out for a corner.

And from the set-piece, Sergio Ramos heads over.

  46. Post update

  47. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Betis are starting to get into the game a bit now, it's a huge boost for them that they weren't blown away in that opening 12 minutes.

Having said that Danilo has a chance for Madrid, which he drags wide of the near post.

  48. Get Involved

    Luka Modric
  49. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Betis have had 30% of the possession so far and that's more than I'd have thought. Madrid still in control.

  50. Post update

  51. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

It's all Real Madrid. Gareth Bale puts in a poor cross but from another move seconds later Karim Benzema almost gets his head onto a Cristiano Ronaldo cross.

And now Toni Kroos fires just wide from outside the box.

  52. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Betis's summer signing Rafael van der Vaart misses today's game against his old club as he has an ankle sprain.

  53. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Betis have a corner, which they take quickly and Madrid just about deal with.

  54. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Gareth Bale is in again but it's saved by Antonio Adan - and then he's flagged offside. It's been pretty much 100% Real Madrid attack so far.

  55. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Not actually sure if Real Betis have been in Real Madrid's half.

  56. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Free-kick to Real Madrid 30 yards out. Cristiano Ronaldo lines it up and it's touched over the bar by Antonio Adan. Fantastic hit by the Portuguese.

  57. Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

Real Betis keeper Antonio Adan has to perform a save to deny Real Madrid a second as Karim Benzema was played through but hit it straight at the keeper.

  58. GOAL - Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis

    Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale needed that after a lot of criticism - the Welsh forward heads home James Rodriguez's cross from the right wing.

Real Madrid and Rafael Benitez needed that too after a goalless draw on the opening day.

    Gareth Bale
  59. KICK-OFF - Real Madrid 0-0 Real Betis

Under way for Rafael Benitez's first home game as Real Madrid manager.

  60. Post update

Quote Message: I understand that there are a lot of media outlets and they have to come up with stories. That means blowing a small story into a big one. At the moment with Gareth it appears that having a pacy player, with a good shot, who can put defenders off balance and can do so many things well is actually a problem. from Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez on Gareth Bale

  61. Post update

Gareth Bale had his first interview in Spanish this week. If I'm being honest it wasn't exactly a Jeremy Paxman grilling.

    Highlights include...

Quote Message: I want to play well to help the team. The team is really united and we want to win each match and all of the titles. from Gareth Bale
    Gareth Bale
  62. Post update

    Gareth Bale

Marca journalist Juan Castro has been talking to BBC World Service's Sportsworld about Gareth Bale.

"People are really unhappy about his performance in the pre-season and even his bad second season last year so everyone is focusing on him," he said.

"His ideal position is on the left side but in this position is playing Cristiano Ronaldo so he won't move there. Gareth Bale is playing more in the middle."

Could he move to Manchester United?

"Impossible for several reasons, firstly he has cost 100m euros and the president won't make this transfer for sure, at least not this season. Two other reasons - he has done his first interview in Spanish which is a sign he wants to stay and Rafa Benitez, his coach, has defended him a lot."

  63. LINE-UPS - Real Madrid v Real Betis (21:30 BST)

A reminder of the teams. Karim Benzema starts after missing the beginning of the season with a thigh injury.

Real Madrid:  Navas, Varane, Sergio Ramos, Ronaldo, Kroos, Benzema, Rodriguez, Bale, Marcelo, Modric, Danilo

Real Betis:  Adan, Piccini, Pezzella, Bruno, Molinero, Xavi Torres, N’Diaye, Cejudo, Vargas, Dani Ceballos, Ruben Castro.

  64. Post update

And now we turn our attentions to Real Madrid v Real Betis, which kicks off in five minutes.

  65. FULL-TIME - Barcelona 1-0 Malaga

That was the last chance - two wins from two for Barcelona.

  66. Barcelona 1-0 Malaga

Malaga almost rescue a point as they break, the ball is played across to Charles six yards out but Jordi Alba gets a touch to deny him. So, so close.

  67. Barcelona 1-0 Malaga

We're into the final minute, Barca in possession in Malaga's half.

  68. INJURY TIME

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez was down clutching his head. But he's fine now. We're into one of three minutes injury time.

  69. SUBSTITUTION

It's another change as Barcelona just see this one out. Jeremy Mathieu comes on for probable match-winner Thomas Vermaelen at the back.

  70. SUBSTITUTION

Barcelona bring off Neymar and on comes youngster Sandro.

  71. Post update

AC Milan lead Empoli 2-1 with Luiz Adriano firing in a header. That's two of their three big-name striker summer signings on the scoresheet, after Carlos Bacca opened the scoring. Mario Balotelli, the third, is on the bench.

  72. Barcelona 1-0 Malaga

Another chance for Barcelona as Lionel Messi is picked out by Neymar but his effort is touched around the post by Carlos Kameni.

    Carlos Kameni
  73. Barcelona 1-0 Malaga

Ten to go. Hard to see Malaga coming back. They put so much work into keeping Barcelona at bay.

  74. Barcelona 1-0 Malaga

Luis Suarez hits the side-netting for Barcelona, who are pushing for a second goal to kill this game off.

  75. SUBSTITUTION

Straight after that goal Juanpi replaced Ricardo Horta and instantly clashed with Javier Mascherano but escaped punishment.

  76. GOAL - Barcelona 1-0 Malaga

    Thomas Vermaelen

Some great attacking players on show but Thomas Vermaelen opens the scoring.Luis Suarez's cross is parried by keeper Carlos Kameni and the ex-Arsenal defender volleys the rebound into the net.

Maybe Kameni could have done better there, but I think he'd already bailed his team out enough.

    Barcelona players
  77. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

And now the Cameroon keeper - who did not concede in either game against Barca last season - holds onto a Rafinha shot from outside the box.

  78. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Carlos Kameni pulls off another great save from Lionel Messi's 25-yard drive. Luis Suarez blazes over the rebound but was offside anyway.

If La Liga fantasy football is a thing, Kameni's going to be getting a lot of points - that's his 10th save I think.

    Lionel Messi
  79. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Luis Suarez's cross is held by Carlos Kameni. Malaga can't even get it to the halfway line.

Can the visitors hang on to make it three La Liga games unbeaten against the Catalan giants?

    Luis Suarez
  80. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Sergi Roberto plays in a cross from the right and, with Luis Suarez ready to tap into an empty net, a Malga defender gets a boot to it to hook it over the bar.

From the corner, Lionel Messi is denied against by Carlos Kameni.

    This is non-stop attack now.

  81. SUBSTITUTION

Barcelona make a change in midfield, Ivan Rakitic coming off for Rafinha, who is in the current Brazil squad.

Rafinha is the brother of Bayern Munich and Spain midfielder Thiago.

  82. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

It's just attack after attack, the ball lands to Neymar, whose effort is deflected wide by a defender. The corner is held by Carlos Kameni.

  83. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Barcelona have overcomplicated it here as Neymar plays the ball out to Lionel Messi, 18 yards out, but instead of shooting the Argentine tries to play the ball back into a packed zone to either Neymar or Luis Suarez. Malaga clear.

  84. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

This might be Barcelona's best effort so far as Lionel Messi forces a diving save from Carlos Kameni to touch it around the post from just inside the box.

And then from the corner Andres Iniesta fires just wide

  85. LINE-UPS - Real Madrid v Real Betis (21:30 BST)

Line-ups for our next game as you would expect.

Real Madrid:  Navas, Varane, Sergio Ramos, Ronaldo, Kroos, Benzema, Rodriguez, Bale, Marcelo, Modric, Danilo

Real Betis:  Adan, Piccini, Pezzella, Bruno, Molinero, Xavi Torres, N’Diaye, Cejudo, Vargas, Dani Ceballos, Ruben Castro.

  86. SUBSTITUTION

Malaga bring on striker Charles for Nordin Amrabat.

  87. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

From the corner Thomas Vermaelen tries to turn a shot goalwards but he doesn't get proper contact on it and it's easily saved by Carlos Kameni.

  88. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

It's a good break from Malaga as Nordin Amrabat charges down the wing but his cross is cut out.

And then moments later 100 yards away Lionel Messi forces a good low save from Carlos Kameni after Neymar found his pal in the box.

  89. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Fantastic football from Barcelona as Lionel Messi clips a ball over the top to Neymar, who hits a first-time backheel flick back into Messi's path but the Argentine slips when he's about to shoot.

    Lionel Messi
  90. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Malaga break but overhit a pass and their chance is gone. Barca on the ball now.

  91. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Barcelona haven't scored a goal against Malaga since January 2014.

    Luis Suarez
  92. KICK-OFF - Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

    We go again.

  93. Post update

They need to get a wriggle on here or else this game will clash with the first couple of minutes of Real Madrid v Real Betis.

    Denis Suarez
Image caption: Denis Suarez had started the season with Sevilla

In a not-at-all-complicated transfer, Barcelona have sold 21-year-old midfielder Denis Suarez to Villarreal.

The ex-Manchester City youngster was on a two-year loan at Sevilla, who have agreed to let him go.

Barcelona have the option to buy back Suarez in either of the next two summers. After that they have first refusal.

  96. Story of the first half

Barcelona dominating as you would expect.

    STATS
  97. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Barcelona players having words with referee Santiago Jaime Latre as they leave the pitch. Not happy with those two failed penalty appeals.

  98. HALF-TIME

More frustration for Barcelona against Malaga. They failed to score in two games against the same opposition last season, a draw and a defeat.

  99. INJURY TIME

    One minute added on.

  100. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Lionel Messi's free-kick is poor and evades everyone. Goal-kick.

  101. YELLOW CARD

First booking of the game goes to Malaga's Recio, who fells Lionel Messi 30 yards from goal.

  102. Get Involved

  103. PENALTY APPEAL

Barcelona are denied a penalty again! And this one should definitely have been awarded. Luis Suarez gets past the Malaga defence and Marcos Angeleri brings him down from behind and fails to get a touch on the ball.

An awful decision and a huge let-off for Malaga.

  104. PENALTY APPEAL

Barcelona are certain they should have a penalty for handball. Neymar's cross is blocked by the arm of the sliding Miguel Torres.

It wasn't intentional so not a penalty in my eyes.

Whistles all through the Nou Camp.

  106. Post update

In Serie A, former Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca has just given AC Milan the lead against Empoli, rounding the keeper before firing home.

Mario Balotelli is on the bench at the San Siro, although admittedly it is a 12-man bench so far from a guarantee he'll come on.

And Riccardo Saponara has now levelled it up.

  107. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Neymar, making his first competitive appearance of the season after mumps, has a shot from just outside the box but it's straight at Carlos Kameni, once of Barca's city rivals Espanyol.

  108. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

    Take that Malaga.

  109. Post update

Speaking of midfielders turned into defenders, Xabi Alonso played at centre-back today for Bayern Munich as they beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0. Boss Pep Guardiola was impressed.

  110. HITS THE WOODWORK

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano, of all people, comes closest to opening the scoring as his header from Lionel Messi's left-wing cross hits the crossbar.

  111. SUBSTITUTION

Malaga defender Weligton was injured chasing Lionel Messi in that previous incident and so he's replaced by Raul Albentosa, who is on loan from Derby County.

  112. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Lionel Messi runs onto a ball - for a second it looks like he's in on goal, but he just runs it wide and the ball is smothered out for a corner.

  113. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Incredible effort from Juan Carlos, who picks up a misplaced pass in his own half and has a shot with a first-time effort - a full 60 yards out. Keeper Claudio Bravo was off his line and he will be hugely relieved that the shot was just wide.

  114. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Malaga have a corner after summer signing Duje Cop's shot was blocked. Claudio Bravo is able to hold onto the resulting corner though. That was almost the first time Malaga have gone forward.

  115. Get Involved - #bbceurofooty

Re our entry between four and seven minutes.

  116. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

There's no doubt that a goal is coming. Probably.

  117. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

    Luis Suarez attacks

Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta plays the ball through to Luis Suarez. Keeper Carlos Kameni smothers it but he gets it wrong and only parries it. Suarez tries to backheel in the rebound but it's far too optimistic and Malaga stay level for now.

  118. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

It's all Barcelona so far. Andres Iniesta gets the ball near the byeline and cuts it back to Lionel Messi, who wasn't quite expecting it.

Now Sergio Busquets has a shot but it's saved by keeper Carlos Kameni, who is going to be busy tonight.

  119. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

Lionel Messi passes the ball to Andres Iniesta, who plays it first time without looking through to Luis Suarez, but he didn't quite anticipate it and Carlos Kameni comes out of his goal to deny him.

  120. Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

    Trophies
Image caption: Messi (r) wins the world's ugliest trophy award

Before the game, Barca players paraded a couple of trophies - Lionel Messi with the Uefa Best Player in Europe Award and captain Andres Iniesta holding the Uefa Super Cup.

  121. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Luis Suarez

    Luis Suarez in action

Barcelona have the ball in the net, Luis Suarez thinks he's given the hosts the lead with a header but it's been correctly ruled out as he pushed the back of Marcos Angeleri in order to get to the ball.

  122. KICK-OFF - Barcelona 0-0 Malaga

    It's go time.

  123. Barcelona v Malaga

Almost ready to go, just running a couple of minutes late at the Nou Camp.

  124. LINE-UPS - Barcelona v Malaga

A reminder of the teams. Neymar returns from mumps. Sergi Roberto will probably play at right-back with Dani Alves out injured.

Malaga start with my former pen pal Carlos Kameni in goal. That's probably of more interest to me than you.

Barcelona:  Bravo, Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta, Suarez, Messi, Neymar,  Mascherano, Alba, Sergi Roberto, Vermaelen. Subs: Ter Stegen, Rafinha, Bartra, Munir, Sandro, Mathieu, Gumbau.

Malaga:  Kameni, Rosales, Angeleri, Weligton, Torres, Horta Recio, Tissone, Juankar, Amrabat, Cop. Subs: Albentosa, Espinho, Dias de Oliveira, Ochoa, Barbosa Valente, Boka, Anor Acosta

  131. SUBSTITUTION

Bayern make their final change in midfield as Sebastian Rode replaces Thiago, who signed a new long-term contract this week.

    Thiago
  132. Showboat!

Douglas Costa flicks the ball up between his legs over a Leverkusen defender and gets it on the other side. It's party time at the Allianz.

I'm pretty sure a Rangers player did that recently, with Alloa accusing them of disrespect.

  133. SUBSTITUTIONS

Bayern Munich bring on Mario Gotze for goalscorer Arjen Robben. Leverkusen bring off Wendell for Sebastian Boenisch at the back.

  134. Balotelli on bench

Mario Balotelli is on the bench for AC Milan's game against Empoli at 19:45 BST. We'll let you know if he gets on the pitch.

AC Milan:  Diego Lopez, De Sciglio, Zapata, Romagnoli, Antonelli; Bertolacci, De Jong, Nocerino, Suso, Bacca, Luiz Adriano. Subs: Abbiati, Donnarumma, Abate, Alex, Zaccardo, Montolivo, Poli, Bonaventura, Kucka, Honda, Balotelli, Cerci.

  135. Bayern Munich 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen are open at the back now and Bayern Munich should be 4-0 up. Robert Lewandowski comes charging down the left wing, showing great pace and taking on a couple of defenders.

Arjen Robben is in the centre, ready to tap in a cross, but the Pole goes alone and is denied by keeper Bernd Leno. It was so selfish.

  136. SUBSTITUTION

Bayern bring on Dante, who has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena and didn't start todaydespite their centre-back shortage. Juan Bernat comes off.

  137. YELLOW CARD

Leverkusen haven't given up yet and Robbie Kruse controls a ball forward and forces Manuel Neuer into a save.

But the referee spotted a handball and books him instead - the correct call.

  138. Bayern Munich 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen

You rarely see two penalties awards this soft in a game. Bayer Leverkusen must be furious. They've been second best but it should be 1-0.

  139. GOAL - Bayern Munich 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen

    Arjen Robben

Incredible. Instead of Thomas Muller, who has already scored a penalty, stepping up for his hat-trick, it's Arjen Robben who takes it instead.

Luckily for the Dutchman he scores as the keeper goes the wrong way.

    Arjen Robben
  140. PENALTY TO BAYERN

Roberto Hilbert, who was the player who conceded the previous harsh penalty, has been punished again for a handball as the ball was blasted at him from close range. A terrible decision - so, so harsh.

  141. Bayern Munich 2-0 Bayer Leverkusen

It's all Bayern Munich now. Leverkusen look done here. Thomas Muller fires a shot over, he's searching for a hat-trick. And Arjen Robben's cross from the right goes past everyone in the box.

Bayer Leverkusen bring off one of their main goal threats, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Robbie Kruse comes on for him in midfield.

  145. GOAL - Bayern Munich 2-0 Bayer Leverkusen

    Thomas Muller

Thomas Muller rolls the ball down the centre after keeper Bernd Leno had dived to his right. That's his second goal.

  146. PENALTY TO BAYERN

David Alaba goes up with a couple of Leverkusen players in the box and he's got a penalty. For a shove I think. Seemed so harsh. There was barely a touch.

  147. Post update

Robert Lewandowski, by the way, has been selected as the fifth top player to watch in the Champions League this season by Benni McCarthy, who was speaking to BBC World Service.

    1: Lionel Messi

    2: Cristiando Ronaldo

    3: Sergio Aguero

    4: Neymar

    5: Robert Lewandowski

  148. CLOSE!

Bayern Munich are inches away from doubling their lead as Arjen Robben plays in a ball which Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno comes flying out of his box to deal with - but his clearance is straight at Robert Lewandowski and the rebound goes just wide of the post - it looked like it was going in.

  149. Bayern Munich 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Karim Bellarabi now has another chance for the visitors but it's straight at Manuel Neuer. Coach Roger Schmidt will be very happy with this start.

  150. Bayern Munich 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Stefan Kiessling should probably level the scores - the Bayer Leverkusen forward is played in on goal but is shot from an angle is straight at keeper Manuel Neuer and his rebounded effort is cleared off the line by David Alaba.

Moments later Hakan Calhanoglu fires a shot wide from just outside the box. A very encouraging start to the second half from Leverkusen.

  151. PENALTY APPEAL

Arjen Robben bursts into the box and goes down, I think he just tripped over himself. He wants a penalty though but he's not getting it. Ridiculous by the Dutchman.

  152. KICK-OFF - Bayern Munich 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Second half under way at the Allianz Arena.

  153. SUBSTITUTION

Bayer Leverkusen bring on 19-year-old winger Julian Brandt for Admir Mehmedi at half-time.

  154. Bayern loan Dane to Schalke

    Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

In case you missed it yesterday, Bayern have loaned Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, 20, to Schalke for the season.

Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer said: “We're certain his future lies in Munich. But to develop further he needs immediate match practice which he will get at Schalke.

Peru striker Claudio Pizarro, who left Bayern this summer after two spells, was presented to the fans on the pitch before this game.

The 36-year-old, who has not signed for a new club yet, is the top scoring non-German in Bundesliga history.

"Maybe I could do something with FC Bayern after retiring," he told the club website. "Let’s wait and see. I’d like to keep playing for a bit first, and then the club and I might see what we can do."

  159. Story of the first half

Bayern have been the better side but the stats show there hasn't been loads in it.

    Stats
  160. HALF-TIME - Bayern Munich 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

    It's half-time, Bayern deservedly lead.

  161. Bayern Munich 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa, who has had a brilliant start to the season, flies down the left wing and puts in a cross which neither Thomas Muller or Robert Lewandowski can get onto.

  162. Bayern Munich 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Thomas Muller has scored 75 goals in 200 Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich. Not bad for a player who isn't an out-and-out striker.

He's been linked to Manchester United this summer but then again, who hasn't?
