Right, that is all from us but head on over to our live text commentary on Barcelo...I mean Stoke versus Liverpool, which is under way now.

    Cheerio!

  2. Manager reaction

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "We were not convincing offensively or defensively. I knew it it could be a tricky game, if you can't win the game, make sure you don't lose it.

"We know fitness wise, West Ham were ahead of us, they had already played competitive games. You never get the same intensity. Well done West Ham. We will respond to that accident.

"We bought and still lost the game today. We listen to people but we have to focus on the quality of our performance.

"You are never surprised in the Premier League. It is better if we don't talk too much and continue to work hard. The players were maybe too nervous and put too much pressure on themselves.

"Today we have been hurt mentally and it is a good opportunity to respond."

  3. 'Messi would not faze Reece'

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

    Lionel Messi

More from Slaven Bilic, speaking about 16-year-old Reece Oxford: “People were asking 'are you sure he is 16?' It was going to be a risk but he has got something. I thought if we need someone to sit in front of the defence who is cool and can be a third defender, but who can also play on the ball, I am very proud of him. Only on paper he is 16, he is a part of this new generation. Put it this was, if Messi was in front of me I would be more fazed than Reece."

  4. Manager reaction

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Slaven Bilic looks to the sky

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic: “We are all very pleased and it is great start for us. Not only for the three points but points against a team that are the title contenders. If you add to that a London derby, it makes it a even bigger win. This is very special. I am very proud of the second half performance.

“I know we have a good team and I know we have that in ourselves but I wasn’t sure how we were going to show it. Sam Allardyce left me a good team and left me some quality in the side. We are still short of a few players but we have a chance to do a good job in the Premier League."

I would use the word gutsy to describe West Ham today. What Slave Bilic did do was let his players do something with the ball, he didn't just set up defensively. A break in play as Olivier Giroud and James Tomkins clash heads and both need treatment.

  30. Post update

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

West Ham are edging closer to a first league win at Arsenal in eight years and 16-year-old Reece Oxford has more than played his part.

The teenager has been a busy presence in the Hammers half, helping to nullify Arsenal's infrequent attacks.

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Theo Walcott races forward and shoots, deflected wide for a corner.

Once again the set piece lacks bite as the ball is sent into the area and bounces off Alexis Sanchez. The attempted clearance then hits the Chilean before West Ham clear.

  32. YELLOW CARD

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

Nacho Monreal goes in the book for Arsenal after a foul on Mark Noble. The West Ham skipper is down injured for a lengthy spell and Arsene Wenger is not happy. He wants things hurrying up.

  33. SUBSTITUTION

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

    Alexis Sanchez

    It is Sanchez time.

Unable to play the full 90 minutes just yet, Alexis Sanchez is introduced for the final 25, with Mathieu Debuchy making way.

Big cheer from the Arsenal fans, can he make something happen?

  34. Post update

    Arsenal 0-2 West Ham

For Arsenal, almost as bad as their defending has been their set-pieces - they have had a couple of free-kicks in promising positions but failed to make the most of them.

That's the case when Santi Cazorla sends in a free-kick from the left and Olivier Giroud meets it, but his header is straight at Adrian. Poor.

  40. GOAL

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham - Mauro Zarate

    Mauro Zarate celebrates

My word! West Ham double their lead after shocking defending by Arsenal. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain tries to move out of the defence with the ball but is too casual and allows Mauro Zarate to snatch possession.

The Argentine then strides towards the area before shooting low and his shot somehow creeps past Petr Cech and in at the near post.

  41. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 West Ham

Better from Arsenal as Mesut Ozil squares a low ball into the middle of the area for Olivier Giroud. The striker controls with one touch before swinging a shot into the sidenetting. Giroud goes even closer soon after, shooting low towards the near post but good save from Adrian.

Theo Walcott is warming up and about to come on.

  42. Bodies on the line

West Ham are willing to put themselves in the line of fire. Six shots blocked already by Bilic's men.

    Arsenal 0-1 West Ham

Mauro Zarate tries to wriggle his way through four Arsenal players, not happening, and the Gunners pick up the ball and break forward.

Again a stifling West Ham defence frustrates as Reece Oxford gets in the way of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's shot.

  46. Post update

    Arsenal 0-1 West Ham

Alexis Sanchez is warming up on the touchline. Meanwhile, it is a positive start to the second half from Arsenal as they push West Ham players back into their own area. The packed Hammers box is frustrating the Gunners, though, as Mathieu Debuchy crosses, only to find the head of a West Ham defender.

Out come the Arsenal players...but they are early and spend a good minute or two milling about on the pitch before West Ham's lot stroll out.

  51. Don't panic!

    Arsenal 0-1 West Ham

Panicking Arsenal fans, here is a stat that should put your mind back at ease.

Petr Cech had posted the best saves to shots ratio (min. 50 saves) of any goalkeeper in the Premier League over the last three seasons (78%).

He made an error, but the Gunners defence should also have done better in picking up Cheikhou Kouyate.

  52. Championship full-time

    Preston 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Will Keane

In the Championship, newly-promoted Preston held last season's beaten Championship play-off finalists Middlesbrough to an uneventful goalless draw at Deepdale.

Boro failed to test home keeper Jordan Pickford, with Grant Leadbitter lashing their best chance wide early on.

Will Keane went closest for North End, with his first-half effort cleared off the line by George Friend.

  60. GOAL

Arsenal 0-1 West Ham - Cheikhou Kouyate

    Cheikhou Kouyate scores

Suckerpunch for Arsenal as West Ham snatch the lead, and it is not a proud moment for Petr Cech.

The impressive Dimitri Payet sends a free-kick into the area and Cech gets it all wrong as he races off his line and into no man's land, leaving Cheikhou Kouyate to head in.

  61. Post update

    Arsenal 0-0 West Ham

    Aaron Ramsey shoots

Another shake of the head by Arsene Wenger as another promising attack ends in disappointment.

This time, Aaron Ramsey makes the wrong choice as he drags a shot wide, ignoring the run from Mathieu Debuchy. An apologetic raise of the hand from Ramsey.

  62. YELLOW CARD

    Arsenal 0-0 West Ham

  63. Post update

    Arsenal 0-0 West Ham

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is once again involved, flicking the ball back to Aaron Ramsey just outside the area. The midfielder shoots and his effort deflects off the back of Aaron Cresswell and over Adrian, but onto the bar.

  66. Post update

    Arsenal 0-0 West Ham

    Brilliant from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain!

The winger picks up the ball just inside his own half and switches on the afterburners, charging forward and causing panicking West Ham players to almost trip over their own feet.

Oxlade-Chamberlain gets down to the byeline and lifts a cross to Santi Cazorla, who attempts to cushion a volley over the goalkeeper, but the ball lands on the roof of the net.

    Alan Shearer

    BBC Sport

    Karim Benzema

Petr Cech is a great signing for Arsenal. But they were 12 points short of Chelsea last season, and they need more.

Olivier Giroud got 14 league goals last season but does not compare to Wayne Rooney,Sergio Aguero or Diego Costa for me. And those are his main rivals.

If Arsenal signed a really top-class striker, say Karim Benzema at Real Madrid, I think they would be real contenders, not just for the Premier League, but to go far in the Champions League as well.

    Alan Shearer

    BBC Sport

    Steve McClaren

If he is allowed to coach, manage and deal with the squad ins and outs without interference, then I think that Steve McClaren will be a success. He is a very good coach.

But all the managers on Tyneside have had the same issue - being unable to bring in the players that they want and being able to pick the team that they want in the cup competitions.

I think that Newcastle's owners got a shock last season. They saw that if the did not invest in the squad, people would stop turning up and buying season tickets.

They have rectified that and brought in some promising players.

Good choice going with that tuxedo Chancel Mbemba as Newcastle boss Steve McClaren gives his new signing a start along with Georginio Wijnaldum. Aleksandar Mitrovic on the bench.

Newcastle XI:  Krul, Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini, Haidara, Anita, Colback, Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Obertan, Cisse.

Briefly back to those rumours about Kevn De Bruyne, former Bayern Munich and Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger was a guest on Sportsworld on BBC World Service earlier, and he had some interesting things to say about the potential move for the Wolfsburg man.

"While he was at Chelsea, maybe he didn't have a good mentality, but he's become more mature, and he's taken on a bigger role in the team," says Hitzlsperger.

"He's the best player at Wolfsburg. It takes some quality to be the best player in the entire league that he was last season in the Bundesliga. That's why I think he's matured and is ready to make to next step and go to Manchester City.”

    Alan Pardew

Speaking of impressive debuts, Yohan Cabaye got himself up and running at Crystal Palace with a goal as Alan Pardew's side beat newly-promoted Norwich 3-1.

Pardew has reinvigorated the Selhurst Park club since his arrival in January. The former Eagles winger led the club to a 10th-place finish last term, their highest in the Premier League.

Were Chelsea a bit stale yesterday? They started the game with no new faces in the side - a contrast to Aston Villa who had six new players in their 1-0 win at Bournemouth.

The Blues defence was a bit shaky. Time to get out the chequebook and snap up John Stones from Everton?

  135. Jose sees Red

    What the papers say

    Mail on Sunday

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho criticised his "naive" medical staff for treating Eden Hazard in their draw with Swansea, and his angry rant made the back page of the Mail on Sunday.

The Blues were down to nine men for a period after staff ran on to treat Hazard following a trip, despite him not appearing to be badly injured. If a player receives treatment, they must leave the field.

    Kasabian

Right, to kick things off in our look back at yesterday - one of the more bizarre moments from Saturday.
