  1. Post update

    Stoke 3-0 Tottenham

All over. Far too easy for Stoke, who are up to ninth in the Premier League table, three points behind eighth-placed Swansea. Tottenham remain sixth but their hopes of another top-five finish have been damaged. Reaction to the game is on the BBC Sport website.

  2. Post update

    Stoke 3-0 Tottenham

    Harry Kane

Into added time. The full time whistle cannot come soon enough for Spurs. This has been a dreadful day for them.

  3. Text us on 81111

    Stoke 3-0 Tottenham

Gordon: Undoubtedly better as a team under Pochettino instead of Sherwood or AVB? Not at all. A team that loses twice to Stoke, loses at home to Newcastle, WBA, Leicester, gives little or no effort at the end of the season and has Paulinho, Lamela and Chiriches anywhere near the first XI isn't that good to me. I've seen some ropey Spurs sides since I've been following them - since 1958 incidentally.

  4. GOAL

Stoke 3-0 Tottenham - Mame Biram Diouf

    Mame Biram Diouf

Icing on the cake for Stoke as Mame Biram Diouf attacks the near post to force the ball over the line following Marko Arnautovic's cross. Too easy.

  5. SUBSTITUTION

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

That bad miss by Jonathan Walters has put paid to his chances of finishing this match. Peter Odemwingie is on for Stoke.

  6. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

    Marko Arnautovic

Five minutes remaining. Stoke are heading for three easy points. Spurs are heading for a summer clearout.

  7. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Jonathan Walters right in front of Hugo Lloris. Surely this is 3-0. No...the Stoke forward fluffs an easy chance. Despite the scoreline, the Potters have failed to take advantage of the extra man.

  8. SUBSTITUTION

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Another Spurs change, Mousa Dembele for Erik Lamela. Midfielder for midfielder.

  9. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Around 1,800 Spurs fans have made the journey north. They find their voice as a rare chance sees Harry Kane go close following a one-two with Christian Eriksen. Too little too late.

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Luke Wilson: This is another terrible result. Irrespective of this Spurs are undoubtedly better under Pochettino than AVB or Sherwood.

  11. SUBSTITUTION

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Remember Stephen Ireland? The former Manchester City and Aston Villa player? He's about to come on for Charlie Adam who receives a standing ovation as he makes his way off.

  12. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

12th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 13th, 9th - Stoke's final position in the Premier League table in the last six seasons. They could still finish eighth this term if they win this.

  13. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

This game is petering out as far as Spurs are concerned. Actually, it's never got going for Mauricio Pochettino's side. One win in six games for Tottenham unless the 10-man visitors can find three goals. Highly unlikely.

  14. SUBSTITUTION

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

First change of the afternoon. Nacer Chadli has done little in the Spurs engine room and he is replaced by Roberto Soldado. Can the Spaniard spark Tottenham into life?

  15. GREAT SAVE!

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

    Hugo Lloris

Charlie Adam is on fire. The Scot is denied his second goal of the afternoon by a full-stretch dive by Hugo Lloris after a clever run by the midfielder. Stoke are eyeing a third goal.

  16. Text us on 81111

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Adam, London: This is just ridiculous, why start Chiriches at centre back when Dier could move there and Yedlin could play at right back? He has just cost us any chance of a comeback.

  17. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Marko Arnautovic tries to release Mame Biram Diouf but over hits his pass and a great chance goes begging. Stoke have become a little careless. There is still work to be done.

  18. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

    Glenn Whelan

Stoke have been camped inside their own half since Spurs went down to 10 men. But the Potters defence has been solid all afternoon, with Tottenham being forced to feed off scraps.

  19. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Vlad Chiricheș was brought in to replace Danny Rose who is suffering a slight groin problem. The Romanian has let his team down badly.

  20. Text us on 81111

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Paul, Telford: Pochettino recently said Spurs need a big summer. A big summer sale. Sell at ANY price - Lamela, Soldado, Kaboul, Paulinho, Fazio, Adebayor, Chiriches. These guys bring NOTHING to our team.

  21. RED CARD

Stoke 2-0 Tottenham - Vlad Chiriches

    Vlad Chiriches

Surely that's the end of Tottenham's comeback hopes? Vlad Chiricheș, booked in the first half, is given his marching orders after bundling Mame Biram Diouf to the floor.

  22. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Spurs have done almost as much in the opening exchanges of the second than they managed during the whole of the first half. A Christian Eriksen effort from 22-yards is beaten away by Jack Butland. Signs of encouragement for the lacklustre visitors.

  23. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

There was a slight delay to the start of the second half due to a pitch invader who is sent packing after unfurling a banner on the pitch.

  24. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Rachel T: Spurs are doing a good impression of the Lib Dems - only eight turning up for work.

  25. KICK-OFF

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

    Mauricio Pochettino

Mark Hughes is all smiles and jokes as he makes his way back to the dug-out. Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, looks unhappy. Very Mauricio Pochettino unhappy. We're back under way.

  26. As it stands

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

It is not all doom and gloom for Spurs. Southampton, their rivals in the race for next season's Europa League, trail 2-0 at Leicester. Meanwhile, Stoke are up to ninth in the 'as it stands' table, above West Ham who trail 1-0 at Aston Villa.

  27. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

    Stoke v Tottenham

The Britannia Stadium has proved something of a graveyard for Arsenal but the Potteries venue is a happy hunting ground for north London rivals Spurs.

While the Gunners have failed to win on their last five top-flight visits to Stoke, Spurs have triumphed in four of their last five league games at the Britannia.

    Is that about to change?

  28. Text us on 81111

Maggie, Lowestoft: If Spurs hang on to Hugo Lloris for next season it will be a miracle. And why would he want to stay? Average at best. Mauricio Pochettino needs some decent additions in the summer and to offload the dead wood.

Jonners, Chelmsford: How many Spurs players wore flip flops in that first half?

  29. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Osvaldo Ardiles (left) and Ricky Villa

Can you remember what you were doing 34 years ago today? If you were a Tottenham fan you were probably dancing in front of your TV as Tommy Hutchison's late own goal earned Spurs a replay against Manchester City in the 1981 FA Cup final. That replay was best remembered for Ricardo Villa's spectacular winner when the Argentine skipped past four defender before slotting past Joe Corrigan. Villa and compatriot Osvaldo Ardiles, who also played in both games for Spurs, were at the Tottenham training ground this week ahead of their team's visit to Stoke. How Spurs could do with them in their prime at he Britannia Stadium.

Osvaldo Ardiles (left) and Ricky Villa
  30. HALF-TIME

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

The first half finishes with a half volley from Ryan Mason which fizzes narrowly wide of the Stoke post. Spurs need more of that attacking intent in the second half.

  31. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

    Mame Biram Diouf

We haven't seen it yet but will Stoke forward Mame Biram Diouf be celebrating a goal later with a trademark back-flip? Two minutes added time.

  32. Text us on 81111

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Ian, Lancaster: Spurs have given up on this season. They're not interested in Europa League and half the team look like they know they're for the chop. Take Eriksen, Kane and Lloris out and we look like an average Championship squad.

  33. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Marko Arnautovic has caused the Spurs defence countless problems. The Austrian is busy and he tests Hugo Lloris for the third time after a powerful run.

  34. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Stoke came into this game in poor form - one win in seven league games. But everything has fallen into place for Mark Hughes's side. If the Potters win they will equal their club record Premier League points haul of 50.

  35. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

Spurs have actually had more possession than Stoke - 54% compared to the home team's 46%. Little sign of quality from the Londoners though.

  36. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Tottenham

What has happened to Spurs? They look nothing like the side that was banging on the door for a Champions League place not so long ago. In contrast, Stoke have been bright and breezy. They are in total command.

  37. GOAL

Stoke 2-0 Tottenham - Steven Nzonzi

    Steven N'Zonzi

What a mess by Tottenham. Keeper Hugo Lloris and defender Eric Dier get in each others way while trying to defend a lofted ball into the area and it falls to Steven Nzonzi, who makes no mistake with a smart finish.

  38. Post update

    Stoke 1-0 Tottenham

Goalscorer Charlie Adam tacks a whack from a yellow shirt and he's flat out on the pitch. The Scot needs treatment and he looks more than a little groggy as he climbs to his feet.

  39. Post update

    Stoke 1-0 Tottenham

Spurs will be encouraged by that near miss but the visitors have been subdued by their high standards. Little sign of attacking threat from Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane.

  40. Post update

    Stoke 1-0 Tottenham

Television replays show Jack Butland, who is starting ahead of Asmir Begovic, got his finger-tips to divert Marc Muniesa's mis-directed header onto the bar. Great save.

Sam Jones: Southampton and Spurs both trying to outdo each other in the race to avoid the Europa League.

Southampton are 2-0 behind at Leicester.

  42. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Stoke 1-0 Tottenham

So close to a Spurs equaliser as Erik Lamela dinks a free-kick into the Stoke area and Marc Muniesa heads against his own bar.

  43. GOAL

Stoke 1-0 Tottenham - Charlie Adam

    Charlie Adam

A Stoke goal has been coming. The only surprise is that its a header from one of the smallest players on the pitch. A mis-timed header by Jan Vertonghen into the path of Charlie Adam on the six-yard line and the former Liverpool man gets in where it hurts to nod the ball over the line. Thoroughly deserved by the hosts.

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Peter Collins: Harry Kane has gone off the boil a bit, and you realise that Spurs just don't have anybody who scores. Top four a long way away.

  46. YELLOW CARD

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

First booking of the game and it's Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches who is cautioned for a clumsy challenge on Jonathan Walters. Moments later Marko Arnautovic tests Hugo Lloris with a curling attempt from the edge of the area.

  47. Post update

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

    Erik Lamela

Everton's home defeat to Sunderland in the early kick-off means Stoke can pull six points clear of the Toffees with two games to play if they defeat Spurs. They're going for it too. Spurs are on the back foot.

  48. Post update

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Spurs are on the attack and it looks promising as Harry Kane darts past a Steven Nzonzi challenge but he cannot pick out a pass.

  49. Post update

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

    Nacer Chadli

This is Tottenham's 55th game of the season - and it shows. They have yet to get going. Stoke nudging 57% possession in the Nacer Chadli opening 10 minutes.

  50. Post update

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

All Stoke. The hosts are dominating possession but just the one chance so far which brought out the best in Hugo Lloris.

Mathew Bennett: Spurs's season has fizzled out unfortunately and our attack is an absolute joke.

    Stats

If history has anything to do with it - which we know it doesn't - Tottenham have the advantage...

  53. Post update

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Three Stoke corners in the opening five minutes. Nothing to play for? The Potters have come flying out of the traps.

  54. GREAT SAVE!

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

What a save by Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris who palms a fierce 18-yard strike by the recalled Marc Muniesa over the bar.

  55. Post update

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

First attack and it's Spurs on the break. Christian Eriksen breaks forward, Nacer Chadli looks for Harry Kane but his cross drifts behind.

  56. KICK-OFF

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Former Spurs striker Peter Crouch is having a laugh with manager Mark Hughes on the Stoke bench. Perhaps he is telling Hughes to get him on as quickly as possible against his old club. We're under way at the Britannia.

  57. LINE-UPS

  60. Post update

    Stoke v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

Ten minutes to kick-off. Blue skies above the Britannia with white clouds dotted around. Looks like Spurs are playing in their all yellow change strip.

  61. To be or not to be...in the Europa League

    Stoke v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    Europa League

Is the Europa League worth the bother for Tottenham?

Many label the competition as a hindrance to their Premier League aspirations, but is there any substance to these claims?

BBC Sport studied 10 seasons since the Europa League introduced group stages to find exactly what impact a campaign has on league performance.

    Have a look here.

  62. "Europa League is not an easy competition"

    Stoke v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino

Don't expect Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to be jumping for joy should Tottenham secure a Europa League spot for a fifth straight season. The Argentine says Europe's second-tier club competition is a hindrance to a Premier League club's domestic aspirations.

"The Europa League is not an easy competition, it's a very tough competition because it affects your domestic league," Pochettino tells the Guardian.

"It's true that the experience of last season with Liverpool and now with Manchester United - I think that is a clear example that you will have the opportunity to stay closer to the top four, if you only have to focus on the Premier League and the cups."

  63. What's at stake?

    Stoke v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    Premier League

So what does today's match mean?

Tottenham can go level on points with fifth-placed Liverpool with a win as the Reds are not in action until Sunday when they meet champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The reward for finishing fifth is a place in the Europa League group stage but the team that finishes sixth in the Premier League table will face a 30 July third qualifying round tie in the same qualification.

Stoke can still finish eighth in the table and require one more win to equal their club record Premier League points hauls which stands at 50.

  64. Post update

    Stoke v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    Martin Fisher

Match of the Day commentator at the Britannia Stadium

    Tottenham fans in Europe

"With just three games to go Tottenham Hotspur hold a slender one-point advantage over Southampton in their tussle to clinch the last definite Europa League qualification place for next season. I very much doubt it's a climax that has the hearts of Spurs supporters fluttering with excitement.

"In fact, I'm pretty sure that there are more than a few who wouldn't mind giving Europe's junior competition a swerve for once.

"After all, they've been involved in it for each of the last four seasons, seven of the last nine if you include its previous guise of the Uefa Cup. So it's hardly a novelty and it hasn't brought much success, just plenty of air miles."

  65. Team news

    Stoke v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

A young Tottenham shows his support for the club's striker Harry Kane

Stoke boss Mark Hughes makes two changes to the side that lost 2-0 at Swansea on 2 May, with defenders Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa coming in for Phil Bardsley and Marc Wilson, who is suspended. Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch is on the substitutes bench.

Spurs make one change to the side that lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City on 3 May, full-back Danny Rose replaced by Vlad Chiricheș. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says Rose has a slight groin problem although he is named on the bench. Harry Kane, who has 20 Premier League goals, also starts for Spurs.

  66. Holidays? Work still to be done

    Dubai

The Saturday before the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season. Stoke and Tottenham players can be forgiven if thoughts are turning towards the beaches of Dubai, a ride along the Pacific Highway in an open top sports car or pool parties in the most lavish hotels Las Vegas has to offer.

But there is still work to be done, nine points to be won which could make the difference between a good season and a distinctly average campaign.

Tottenham's hopes of securing a Champions League spot have all but vanished yet a top-five finish - and a ticket to the Europa League group stage - is still very much alive. For Stoke, a club record Premier League points haul is within reach.

    Route 66 can wait.
