Good night from us then, that's a wrap. See you at the weekend - and don't forget that the draw for the last 16 takes place tomorrow lunchtime.

  2. Post update

    Best of the rest

Roma came through a turbulent match at Feyenoord that was suspended for around 15 minutes in the second-half due to objects being thrown on to the pitch to secure a 2-1 win in Rotterdam. Ivory Coast international Gervinho, who appeared to take exception to something shouted from the crowd just before play was suspended, scored the winner on 60 minutes to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory.

  3. FULL-TIME

    Feyenoord out

The day's late game is over and Roma have knocked out Feyenoord 3-2 on aggregate. Stay tuned to BBC Sport for more info as we get it about the scenes which saw that game suspended for 15 minutes.

  4. Post update

    'Iceberg! Dead ahead!'

Some great quotes on the unfortunate scenario at Parma from former player Alessandro Melli this evening.

Serie A's bottom club has run out of money and was forced to call off the 22 February home game with Udinese as it could not pay for stewards.

Melli told BBC World Service Sport: "In these years, and especially in the last year, I've always thought Parma was like the Titanic.

"There were people who believed they were travelling first class and then other people who were doing all the hard, dirty work without being paid.

"I've always thought that just like the famous tragedy and in the movie, sooner or later an iceberg would come and hit us."

  5. Manager reaction

    Liverpool out of Europa League

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to ITV4: "I thought the four penalty takers were outstanding. It's unfortunate for Dejan Lovren. He was brave enough to take it. It's a lottery really. We've got to get over it and dust ourselves down for the weekend."

  6. Who's through?

They are still playing at Feyenoord v Roma. But here's the rest of the last 16:

    Dinamo Moscow

    Zenit St Petersburg

    Besiktas

    Sevilla

    Dynamo Kiev

    Villarreal

    Fiorentina

    Inter Milan

    Ajax

    Torino

    Club Brugge

    Everton

    Napoli

    Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk

    Matteo Darmian

Matteo Darmian's 67th minute goal was enough to give Torino a 3-2 win at Athletic Bilbao and book a place in Friday's last-16 draw with a 5-4 aggregate win. The hosts had twice pegged back the Italians as Andoni Iraola and Oscar de Marcos cancelled out goals from Fabio Quagliarella and Maxi Lopez.

Meanwhile, a 0-0 draw for German side Wolfsburg at Sporting Lisbon was enough to send them through with a 2-0 aggregate win.

  9. Manager reaction

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on ITV1: "We've seen what a good team Young Boys are. They had a real attacking attitude and we saw a lot of chances. We wanted it to be open and took our chances well.

"To score seven goals in two games is a great achievement

"Romelu Lukaku has been creating a huge amount of chances, his goal scoring quality is fantastic and to score five goals is fantastic. His work rate was also very pleasing.

"It is a shame there is no more British representation but we're looking forward to the draw. We've been supported by huge numbers around Europe."

  10. Post update

    Feyenoord incident

Still 20 minutes to go in Rotterdam, where Roma leas 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate. The hosts need to score twice to go through now. What action will they face from Uefa after the game was suspended for about half an hour?

  11. FULL-TIME

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

All over at Goodison. Everton started poorly but a comfortable win in the end.

The draw for the last 16 takes place tomorrow lunchtime.

  12. DISALLOWED GOAL

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

    Osman

Into added time at Goodison Park. Everton's European season continues in style. Leon Osman heads in but he has fouled his man in the build-up. No goal.

  13. Post update

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

Arouna Kone fires another chance over the bar from a tight angle. He's only scored once for Everton since joining the club.

Supporters throw beer as players of Feyenoord leave the pitch
Image caption: Supporters throw beer as the Feyenoord players leave the pitch

The game in Rotterdam gets back underway in dramatic fashion. Substitute Elvis Manu equalised moments after the restart for 10-man Feyenoord only to see Gervinho restore Roma's lead minutes later to make it 2-1 on the night and 3-2 to the Italians on aggregate.

The sides still can't be separated at San Mames as defender Oscar de Marcos has equalised for Athletic Bilbao to make it 2-2 on the night against Torino and 4-4 on aggregate.

  15. Manager reaction

Tottenham out of the Europa League

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino: "We are all disappointed, the player, too. [Speaking about Roberto Soldado's great chance.]

"This one was the first final for us and all players are disappointed, but now we need to look forwards, to recover quickly, because on Sunday we have another game. It is impossible to change the game now.

"It is true that it was key, this action {Soldado's miss]. You need some luck to score sometimes if you are to win the games.

"We did not score and, if we want to analyse the game, it is easy: Fiorentina scored, we didn't score and in football you don't score it is difficult to win games.

"I think they scored more than us and we didn't score."

  16. Post update

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

    Young Boys' Crowd

Into the final 10 minutes at Everton. Most of the attention is now on the away fans, who are providing plenty of entertainment. Everton cruising into the last 16.

  17. KICK-OFF

    Feyenoord incident

Play has resumed at Feyenoord. We will bring you the full story of what happened there as soon as we know. The official Roma twitter feed says that play was suspended after objects were thrown on to the pitch.

  18. Post update

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

The Young Boys fans are applauded at Goodison Park for their cracking support. How's that for sportsmanship? I like that. The Young Boys fans are doing 'A Poznan'.

Chaim Ford: It's ironic. Out of all the teams, Everton, who've been the most out of form, might end up being the last ones left in Europe!

Nick Weetch: Everton don't seem to have read the memo about British teams boycotting Europe.

Jonatan L: It would be hilarious if all three English sides are knocked out of Champions League but Everton wins the Europa League.

Sally Anders: Anyone noticed that, as it stands, a whopping five of the last 16 will be Italian clubs. Ominous.

  20. HITS THE WOODWORK

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

    Kone Shoots

A goal for Arouna Kone would wrap up the night's work for Everton and he's so close to finding the net, thumping the base of the post from 20 yards. A skidder.

  21. Manager reaction

    Liverpool out of Europa League

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: "We are disappointed of course to go out in the manner we did.

"We created opportunities in the first half to make it difficult for them.

"I am proud of the team and (there was) a fantastic atmosphere we really appreciate.

"But we are disappointed having put so much into the game."

  22. Post update

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

Into the last 20 minutes at Goodison Park. Luke Garbutt swings in another peach of a cross, magic ball in and there's just nobody there to convert.

  23. Feyenoord incident

    Feyenoord vs Roma

Some more info on the incident at Feyenoord v Roma. It looks like Roma forward Gervinho took offence at some chanting aimed at him from a section of the crowd, Roma skipper Francesco Totti got involved, the referee spoke to both managers and took the players off.

As I type they are coming back out but there could be heavy sanctions to follow if there was any serious wrongdoing.

  24. Match suspended

Feyenoord players walk off the pitch

An interesting if particularly vague update from elsewhere, as play has been suspended in the tie between Feyenoord and Roma - I'll give you more info when we have it.

  25. GREAT SAVE!

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

    Wolfli

Arouna Kone sees a glimpse of goal from a smart ball into his feet, a low shot is on target and it's well saved by Marco Wolfli.

  26. SUBSTITUTION

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

I'm not one to condone fans leaving a game early but if ever there was one game to do it, it's this. Absolutely dead in the water this tie. Nothing much going on.

Everton make a change as James McCarthy is switched for Muhamed Besic.

  27. SUBSTITUTION

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

Marco Burki comes on for Young Boys, wearing the 93 shirt. I'm just not having that, there must be a spare number lower down the scale. It's not the NFL. Come on.

    Torino's Maxi Lopez celebrates
Image caption: Torino's Maxi Lopez celebrates his goal in Spain

It's still all to play for at San Mames. Andoni Iraola got a goal back for hosts Athletic Bilbao before Maxi Lopez restored Torino's lead to make it 2-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate to the Italians.

Meanwhile, Adem Ljajic has grabbed a vital away goal for Roma at Feyenoord to make it 1-0 in Rotterdam. The Italians lead 2-1 on aggregate and will be eager to avoid extra-time with a top of the table Serie A clash with Juventus on Monday.

  29. GREAT SAVE!

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

Almost four as Kevin Mirallas hares down the left, cuts inside, does keeper Marco Wolfli with 'the eyes' and puts it in at the near post.

Wolfli dives the wrong way but snakes out a toe and somehow kicks it up over the crossbar. Fine save!

  30. Post update

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

Apologies to Zenit, who I missed off my list of sides who have already qualified. They are through. Some testing trips ahead for Everton whoever they draw.

  31. SUBSTITUTION

Ken Gorry: I'll never knock a player for stepping up to take a penalty. It's the ones that didn't I'd look at.

Johnny Magrinho: So Lovren is the chosen scapegoat? Not Rodgers or any of the other 10 players? He had guts to take that pen - who else offered?

Mickey Somiah: The only thing that hurt is the player who missed. Wouldn't have minded Sterling missing but for Lovren to miss is painful.

Javel Bleach: Peno takers should be decided by the boss according to quality in training. Players shouldn't have to worry about stepping up.

I've heard good things about Everton left-back Luke Garbutt - and his cross for the second goal tonight was absolutely top drawer. He waited, didn't panic and picked out Romelu Lukaku with a wonderful ball.

  38. Post update

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2)

Dave, Manchester: Why do central defenders always take penalties in shootouts? The players who generally have the least technical ability and the fewest shots/chances in a match. Were they not watching when he skied his cross 15 mins earlier?

Ben, Taunton: Why on earth was Lovren chosen ahead of Sterling and Moreno for penalty duty?! Just awful. But we got what we deserved for an appalling performance.

  44. GOAL

Everton 3-1 Young Boys (Agg: 7-2) - Kevin Mirallas (42 mins)

    Mirallas celebration

That is brilliant from Darron Gibson as he spins away from a tackle deep inside his own half and then ruthlessly punishes Young Boys for holding a high line by playing an inch-perfect through pass. It's superb, absolutely perfect for Kevin Mirallas to run on and slam home the third of thie night.

  45. GREAT SAVE!

    Dejan Lovren

That's Dejan Lovren's season in a nutshell. He's gutted too, consoled by his team-mates as he makes his way off the pitch. A poor Liverpooll display to be honest and they are out.

Your thoughts on Tottenham's Euro exit

Colin: Roll up roll up clearance sale at Spurs - Adebayor and Paulinho to go. Soldado going for a rock bottom price - couldn't hit a barn door! Seriously though we need to get rid of them and get some goal scorers to complement Harry K and Christian E.

Jimboi THFC, Essex: Disappointing from thfc tonight it has to be said, many quality players which should still put in a shift even with rotation. That being said many young and promising players in the squad and hopefully they can get a taste what it is to win some silverware this Sunday to make them more hungry for the coming seasons.

Ann, London: He had tough decisions to make, but I blame Poch for this. He should've put out our strongest team last week and sacrificed the West Ham game, would've given him more options this week. Gutted, I'd love to win Europa one day but we've never even come close.

Simon Poyner in Plymouth: English league is definitely weakening. It was only a few years ago the likes of Middlesbrough and then Fulham (2 mid table premier league sides at the time) went far in the competition. Now even our top 6 clubs struggle to get to the latter stages.

    BSC Young Boys goal

The comeback is on! Sort of. Young Boys go ahead and it's another one Tim Howard will want to delete from his showreel. A corner is half cleared, the shot came back in and Howard could only juggle it out. Sekou Sanogo is alive to it and pokes the ball home. There was some confusion over an offside flag but the goal is given.

Liverpool need a break and they take one when Emre Can goes down holding his calf. Since the end of the first half it has been one-way traffic.

  84. GREAT SAVE!

    Besiktas 1-0 Liverpool (Agg: 1-1)

    Demba Ba

Well played Simon Mignolet! The Belgian stands up to make a big save at his near post from Demba Ba, and Martin Skrtel completes the clearance. Moments later Ba tees up Gokhan Tore for a strike which is easily held.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on ITV1: "It's important we are ready for a very interesting game. Young Boys will be a tough test.

"It's not a risk playing Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku, even though they are one booking away from a suspension, as we are too far away from the quarter-finals. You can't think about the bookings as we just want to get through."

"Every game for us is very important and we're trying to build something. Everyone in the squad is ready for me."

Besiktas left-back Daniel Opare lets fly from 25 yards, Simon Mignolet is very confident as he lets it go past the post - it wasn't too far wide at all.

Liverpool have offered nothing going forwards since the first half.

    Fiorentina 2-0 Tottenham (Agg: 3-1)

    Bradley Allen

    BBC Radio London summariser

"It was a first-goal game tonight. Spurs showed enough in the first 45 minutes but Roberto Soldado's miss ultimately cost them.

"These games are often determined by a tactical change and Vincenzo Montella got it right.

"It's been Spurs' 44th game of the season. Were they going to go on with still loads of games to play in this competition?

"But just possibly if Spurs win (the League Cup) on Sunday they would go in the Europa League again.

"If they don't win against Chelsea, they have the fourth place in the Premier League to go for so they could still qualify for Europe again next season."

    Bas Dost
Image caption: Wolfsburg's Dutch striker Bas Dost has scored 14 goals in 15 starts this season

In the other 20:05 GMT kick-offs, Athletic Bilbao's second leg with Torino is finely balanced at 2-2 but Carlos Gurpegui's late equaliser in Italy means the Spanish side - beaten finalists in 2012 - have two away goals to fall back on at San Mames.

Italian title-hopefuls Roma face Serie A leaders Juventus on Monday but first they have a last-32 clash with Dutch side Feyenoord to contend with and could only manage a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico after former Sheffield United forward Colin Kazim-Richards cancelled out Gervinho's opener.

Fellow Italians Napoli should have no trouble dispatching Turkish side Trabzonspor as they take a 4-0 lead into the home leg, while German side Wolfsburg travel with a 2-0 lead to Sporting Lisbon, thanks to a brace from in-form striker Bas Dost at the Volkswagen Arena.

  97. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Besiktas 1-0 Liverpool (Agg: 1-1)

You have to ask why Tolgay Arslan didn't start tonight. The Besiktas sub has been brilliant, bringing a huge grin to Slaven Bilic's face with a wonderful run that wins a corner.

And from the corner, Demba Ba smashes the bar! Goodness me. Ba hurt the Reds in the spring but he has to score this time. Six yards out, he cannons one against the underside of the crossbar and away!

    Fiorentina 2-0 Tottenham (Agg: 3-1)

    Roberto Soldado

Roberto Soldado's huge miss in the first half looks as crucial now as we thought it would prove to be. The Spaniard has a shot blocked from the left of the box as Spurs keep plugging away.

Harry Kane has the ball in the net! But he's offside. Spurs need two goals in 13 minutes.

  111. GOAL

Fiorentina 2-0 Tottenham (Agg: 3-1) - Mohamed Salah (71 mins)

    Mohamed Salah

Time to focus on that League Cup final after all. Mohamed Salah puts Spurs on the brink of elimination but it's terrible, terrible defending from Jan Vertonghen. Vertonghen has time, you've got time, TIME! - but he is caught dithering on the ball and Salah pokes the ball home.

What a strike! I'd make another Narnia gag if I could, as substitute Tolgay Arslan hits a mind-bender from 30 yards. Wonderful, swerving hit, a real peach but it ends up four inches wide of a diving Simon Mignolet's post. Slaven Bilic was off and away...

Darron Gibson makes his first start for the Toffees since injury in November while Antolin Alcaraz replaces the suspended John Stones.

Everton XI: Howard, Coleman, Alcaraz, Jagielka, Garbutt; McCarthy, Gibson, Barry; Naismith, Lukaku, Mirallas.

"Spurs need to regroup. It looks like Fiorentina are already going to make a second change. That is how their coaches deal with game management.

"Pochettino has given the word for some of his subs to warm up. I can see Harry Kane."

    Mario Gomez goal celebration

Mario Gomez reminds me that he is not quite a washed-up striker as he pulls away from Federico Fazio to burst onto a through ball and stroke the ball between Hugo Lloris' legs. Composed finish, classy even. Fazio was at fault originally, giving the ball away on halfway.

    Milan Badelj

    Fiorentina 0-0 Tottenham (Agg: 1-1)

    Erik Lamela

Spurs have had a meltdown! They have to score! You do not get a better chance to score an away goal than this!

Fiorentina have a corner which is cleared and Erik Lamela springs the last line of defence with a clever clip over the top. Roberto Soldado and Nacer Chadli are clean through, totally clean through, they've got an entire half between them! It's like a clip from an Ian Rush best of.

It's a case of Soldado 'having too much time' as he runs in on goal. He could walk it in, but he tries to draw the keeper and then square for Chadli - but he completely fluffs his lines and the keeper collects. Awful.

    Bradley Allen

    BBC Radio London summariser

"A good couple of minutes from Spurs where you just feel they are easing into this game.

"Erik Lamela's better performances have come in this competition and you can look at this evening as a good opportunity for him."

    Besiktas 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-1)

Better from Liverpool as they spring Raheem Sterling in behind the Besiktas defence, he's all alone though and wide out on the right, he holds on to it and tries to find the arriving cavalry - but he can't complete the pass.

    Oh, Mario

Phoenixville: Tom don't disappoint me mate, I just placed bet on Mario scoring his first Liverpool hat-trick.

Don't disappointment me? Don't shoot the messenger!

Abhishek: The crowd in Istanbul feels so scary... That's when i am watching on TV. One can only imagine the state of the players.

Max Welford: Can someone please tell me how Joe Allen consistently earns a starting place for Liv'pool? 60 matches with 1 goal and 0 assists.

"Midway through the first period and Celtic are very much in this contest, which is raging from end to end. It's every bit as open as the game at Celtic Park, all we're lacking are the goals!"

Spurs force a corner which causes panic in the home side's box, it falls for Benjamin Stambouli 18 yards out but he's blocked out by two or three Viola defenders. Fine defending.

    Besiktas 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-1)

    Raheem Sterling

Liverpool's first attack of the night sees Raheem Sterling test Cenk Gonen from the edge of the box. Decent hit from Sterling, he cuts across the ball and the keeper makes a comfortable enough stop. It all came from a persistent run down the left from Alberto Moreno.

    Best of the rest

Dutch champions Ajax have taken control early on in Poland with Arkadiusz Milik, who scored the only goal of the first leg, and Nick Viergever making it 2-0 on the night against Legia Warsaw - 3-0 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, defending champions Sevilla have taken a big step towards the last 16 with Carlos Bacca bagging an away goal at Borussia Monchengladbach to make it 2-0 on aggregate.

There was a time when Mario Gomez was among the most feared strikers in Europe. That feels like a long time ago now doesn't it? The German striker has acres to run into and punish Spurs, but he has no pace, is caught up by a defender and then trips over his own feet.

    Besiktas 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-1)

Sixteen minutes of containment from Lilverpool so far. Bar a few fruity challenges involving Mario Balotelli it's been event free. Exactly what Brendan Rodgers wanted.

We asked you which former Premier League player you would like to see back in the English top flight next season and why?

Alex Daws: Can we ask Steven Gerrard to come back? Does that work?

Tim Oliver: Has to be Tim Cahill. Corners or Corner Flags have never been the same since he left.

Chidozie Ononeze: Xabi Alonso - a metronome of a midfielder .

    BBC Radio London summariser

On Tottenham's potential penalty: "He gets nothing on the ball and I have seen them given. Spurs could have had a penalty. The official is about three yards away from the incident."

  167. PENALTY APPEAL

    Fiorentina 0-0 Tottenham (Agg: 1-1)

Now then, is that a penalty for Spurs?! Christian Eriksen breaks in to the box and he goes down under a challenge from ex-Manchester City defender Stefan Savic. Savic was on the wrong side and he made no contact wit the ball - a risky one.

Any time you see a defender protesting before he's even sat up, you get the feeling that it could well be a spot kick...

  168. YELLOW CARD

    Besiktas 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-1)

    Mario Balotelli

Forget what I said earlier, Mario Balotelli is going to get sent-off tonight. He's just been booked for a late lunge on the touchline. That's 80 minutes on a booking. I don't rate his chances.

  169. Post update

    Fiorentina 0-0 Tottenham (Agg: 1-1)

    Bradley Allen

    BBC Radio London summariser

"In transition Fiorentina are bright, they are looking to exploit the right side and get one on one situations against Vlad Chiriches.

No clear-cut chances for Fiorentina but you can see they are playing with confidence."

  170. Post update

    Fiorentina 0-0 Tottenham (Agg: 1-1)

The hosts continue to press on, Hugo Lloris bats away a corner and David Pizarro lashes the loose ball high and wide. Fiorentina have the advantage thanks to last week's away goal. Spurs need to score tonight.

Erik Lamela has their first shot of the night, but it's straight at Neto in the Fiorentina net.

  171. Post update

    Besiktas 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-1)

    Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli has already been pinged for two early fouls, are the hosts trying to wind him up? Liverpool fans will be pleased to see Mario laughing at the referee after his latest infringement. Keep calm and carry on.

First shot of the night from Fiorentina as Mohamed Salah finds Milan Badelj on the edge of the box. It's crying out for a hit but he drags it wastefully wide.

    Fiorentina 0-0 Tottenham (Agg: 1-1)

    Bradley Allen

    BBC Radio London summariser

    Erik Lamela

"It's a real challenge for Spurs. Watching the first leg we saw Fiorentina show their quality and adapt their formation to come back strongly into the game in the second half. Spurs, regardless of any changes, are going to have to perform very well to get through this tie."

  174. Post update

    Fiorentina 0-0 Tottenham (Agg: 1-1)

The familiar violet shirts of Fiorentina scurry hither and thither across midfield, a bold start on what looks like a freezing evening.

  175. Post update

    Besiktas 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-1)

Besiktas make a lively start, roared on by a vociferous crowd. Kolo Toure almost gets caught on the ball but just about gets it out.

  176. KICK-OFF

Game on! Under way in Istanbul, in Florence and in Milan.

  177. Post update

Inter Milan v Celtic (18:00 GMT)

BBC Sport's Alasdair Lamont at San Siro

"Kick-off just moments away in the San Siro, which is about half full. The 3,000 Celtic fans are up in the top tier of the cavernous stadium but are making themselves heard. Their team has to end a winless run here in Italy if they're to progress. No easy task but a challenge Ronny Deila and his players are relishing."

We asked you which former Premier League player you would like to see back in the English top flight next season and why?

Alex Brown: Olof Mellberg for me. Loved the Villa and always gave 100%. We wouldn't be in the mess we are with him at the back.

Great bloke, gave every away fan a shirt on his last game.

Patrick G: Yohan Cabaye. That Olly Giroud would never have won best looking Premier League player with dreamboat back in a Toon shirt.

Chris King: Carlos Tevez. He has unfinished business at West Ham.
