  1. Post update

That's all from me folks. Thanks for your company.

Celtic can be pleased with their night's work but it's only the halfway stage and it will need another focused and disciplined performance in Glasgow next week to make sure of a place in the Champions League group stage.

  2. Post update

And a bit more from Ronny Deila

"Maribor are always dangerous and they may be more dangerous away from home so we need to play with good balance.

"But I have a good feeling that we can reach it (the group stage)."

  3. Post update

    More from Ronny Deila

"Stefan Johansen worked very hard and is good on the ball and is a leader on the pitch. He was Maribor's best defender also!"

The Celtic midfielder inadvertently blocked a goal-bound header from team-mate Virgil van Dijk in the first half.

  4. Post update

    Celtic manager Ronny Deila

"We have a big chance now. We were prepared and the players were fantastic for 90 minutes; 1-1 is a good result but I think we could have won the game.

"You can see every day the hunger Craig Gordon has. He is a leader in the group now and that is so important. He has great experience and he is always so calm.

  5. Post update

Former Celtic captain Stephen McManus on BBC Radio Scotland

"You can see what Ronny Deila is trying to do, you can see what attributes players need to play in that system. I think Anthony Stokes prefers a partnership. In the central role you need a bit of presence but all of the Celtic strikers are similar. For Celtic to go to the next level in Europe I think they need a fresh face to lift the place."

  6. Join the debate at #bbcsportscot

John McEnerney on Twitter: "#bbcsportscot let's really take them to the cleaners next week at home! Stefan J put in a super shift tonight."

  7. Post update

Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner on BBC Radio Scotland

"Craig Gordon has got great experience and the save he pulled off when it was going into the top corner was just wonderful."

  8. Post update

    Tom English

    BBC Scotland

"It's job done for Celtic, although it was hairy at times. But there are issues. I still don't think they have someone who can play that lone striker role in the Champions League. Celtic also need another centre-half because if Efe Ambrose is your back-up, you're in trouble.

"Craig Gordon looks back to his best. What a piece of business; selling Fraser Forster for £10m and getting a top class replacement for nothing!"

  9. Post update

Stefan Johansen was an impressive performer for Celtic

Stefan Johansen was full of running from the centre of Celtic's midfield but a clumsy touch let him down when through on goal midway through the second half.

    Maribor 1-1 Celtic

Celtic are in the driving seat with a vital away goal and in truth the visitors probably did enough to win the first leg. Maribor showed glimpses of quality but will need to deliver a much improved performance to upset the odds in Glasgow next week.

  11. Post update

Celtic break and Leigh Griffiths slides a great pass into the path of Stefan Johansen but a defender in purple gets across to put in a sliding block for a corner.

Johansen has put in a real shift tonight, with some impressive running.

  12. Post update

We'll have three minutes of stoppage time in Slovenia...

  13. Post update

Callum McGregor scampers after a long ball over the top of the home defence but veteran keeper Jasmin Handanovic shows a neat turn of pace to beat the youngster to it and clear his lines.

Beram Kayal goes off (very slowly) and is replaced by Israel team-mate Nir Biton. Celtic may need to dig deep to maintain the 1-1 scoreline in these closing minutes.

  15. Post update

Maribor appear to have found a second wind as Virgil van Dijk makes a vital headed interception at the near post.

Craig Gordon makes a fantastic flying save to claw away an absolute piledriver from all of 40 yards from substitute Ales Mertelj. That was travelling and it was travelling straight into the top corner until the keeper got his hand to it.

  17. Post update

It's Leigh Griffiths's 24th birthday today. Can he make it one to remember in the these last 10 minutes?

Sintayehu Sallallich is on for Maribor goalscorer Damjan Bohar and Mertelj replaces Dervisevic, while Celtic withdraw Anthony Stokes for Leigh Griffiths.

Callum McGregor goes in the book for a shirt tug, breaking up a Maribor counter-attack.

  20. Post update

We know Virgil van Dijk can hit them and so does Maribor keeper Jasmin Handanovic now as the 36-year-old has to tip over a fierce 25-yard strike from the Celtic defender.

Celtic send on defender Efe Ambrose for forward Jo Inge Berget and Maribor bring on French striker Mendy for Vrsic.

Beram Kayal breaks into the penalty area on the right and topples under the challenge of Mitja Viler but referee Pavel Kralovec is not interested.

  23. Post update

What a chance! Stefan Johansen makes a fantastic run from deep to leave two defenders for dead. He only has the keeper to beat but takes a clumsy touch, allowing Jasmin Handanovic to smother at his feet.

  24. Post update

Anthony Stokes has definitely perked up in the last few minutes. Maybe he's seen some of your texts?

  25. Post update

A tug on Jo Inge Berget leads to a free kick on the left of the Maribor penalty box but the home defence stand firm to deal with Anthony Stokes's curling delivery.

  26. Text us on 80295

Chris, Cornwall: "Get them back to Parkhead I agree keep this tie alive and it will be a good nights work."

Nico: "Stokes is not at his best as a lone striker, Lee Griffiths is much better at leading the line and will hopefully be on soon."

Pete: Stokes is a disaster in European games. Always offside."

  27. Post update

Anthony Stokes does well to control a long ball with his head and is able turn and run at the Maribor defence before drilling a shot on the stretch narrowly wide. Nice work from the Celtic striker.

  28. Post update

Celtic make ground on the right flank and Callum McGregor has time to pick out Anthony Stokes with a fine cross. The striker gets a decent connection on his header but defender Aleksander Rajcevic takes some of the sting out of it and it's an easy save for Jasmin Handanovic.

  29. Text us on 80295

Alan, Bo'ness: "Hi guys, Rony Deila says that Griffiths is the best finisher that he has seen so why does he not play him yes we all agree Stokes is good in Scotland but not proven in Europe so give Leigh the chance he can't be worse than Stokes in Europe I'm sure so his natural instinct will prove the difference."

  30. Post update

Celtic are struggling to maintain possession as Maribor pile on the pressure. Emilio Izaguirre is guilty of a terrible pass straight to an opponent and suddenly Craig Gordon needs to make a flying save to keep out a header from Agim Ibraimi. Tavares had strayed into an offside position, though.

  31. Text us on 80295

Nico: "The most important thing for Celtic is to keep this tie alive for the second leg. They are bound to tire and will have to hang on for the return in Glasgow."

  32. Post update

Maribor goalscorer Damjan Bohar cuts inside from the left to have a pop but his shot from distance sails high and wide.

  33. Post update

    Alasdair Lamont

    Senior football reporter, BBC Scotland

"One downside of Celtic playing a deeper three-man central midfield and therefore no obvious attacking midfielder is that Anthony Stokes has been rather isolated. He's really not been able to get into the game at all, with Stefan Johansen not often able to get up in support of him quickly enough."

  34. Text us on 80295

Andy in Armagh: "The first leg of the Leiga Warsaw game in the last round was level at 1-1 before Celtic imploded and the tie was lost inside the space of 25 minutes in the second half in Poland. Ronny Deila and Celtic can't allow that to happen again tonight."

Filipovic, sent off at the weekend, is cautioned for a late lunge at Celtic defender Jason Denayer in the centre circle.

  36. Post update

Maribor have definitely picked up the pace. The home manager may have had a few choice words for his troops during the interval.

  37. Post update

Maribor striker Marcos Tavares twists and turns on the edge of the area and blazes powerful strike narrowly wide of the top corner.

Anthony Stokes lofts a lazy shot over goalkeeper Jasmin Handanovic and it sails perfectly into the net. Unfortunately, the Celtic striker was a mile offside, maybe two miles.

  39. KICK-OFF

We're up and running again in Slovenia... No changes in personnel.

  40. Post update

I'm sure Celtic boss Ronny Deila will be saying 'same again lads' as we near the second half. Charlie Mulgrew, Beram Kayal and Stefan Johansen have been solid in central midfield, while full-backs Mikael Lustig and Emilio Izaguirre are full of running.

  41. Post update

    Tom English

    BBC Scotland

"I'd say the tie has swung 60-40 in Celtic's favour. Maribor don't look very good but they have found spaces and I just have a slight worry about Celtic's defensive frailties."

  42. Post update

Here's a look at that unfortunate block from Stefan Johansen, denying team-mate Virgil van Dijk a certain goal.

Celtic's Virgil van Dijk is denied a goal by team-mate Stefan Johansen's accidental block.

    Maribor 1-1 Celtic

Celtic can be content with the first 45 minutes. Callum McGregor supplied an early goal and although Maribor found a cheap equaliser the visitors have been comfortable in possession and really should be ahead - if only Stefan Johansen hadn't got in the way of Virgil van Dijk's header.

  44. Post update

    Alasdair Lamont

    Senior football reporter, BBC Scotland

"This is considerably better than the first leg in Warsaw. Celtic look much less exposed to the counter-attack with a more pragmatic approach, though they're still dangerous themselves. The game-changer in Poland though was Efe Ambrose's red card and the way Celtic continued to charge forward. I don't think they'd employ a similar tactic here tonight."

  45. Post update

Maribor's Dare Vrsic cuts in from the right and lets fly with a fierce left-foot shot. Craig Gordon, guarding his near post, parries it up in the air and is relieved when the loose ball is slashed high over the target by Dervisevic.

  46. Post update

Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner on BBC Radio Scotland

"I just worry about Virgil van Dijk sometimes; opponents peel off him and he doesn't really deal with it."

  47. Post update

A wee scare for Celtic keeper Craig Gordon as he misjudges a clearing punch but he is alert enough to smother the loose ball and can afford to have a smile as he composes himself on the turf.

  48. Join the debate at #bbcsportscot

Jeremy Wood: "@BBCSportScot Maribor don't look to be same class as Legia Warsaw #bbcsportscot"

  49. CLOSE!

Incredible! From Celtic's sixth corner, Virgil van Dijk beats goalkeeper Jasmin Handanovic to Anthony Stokes's delivery and powers a header in from close range. It's a goal all the way until it hits the face of team-mate Stefan Johansen standing on the goal-line. Just to add salt to the wound, an offside decision goes against the Norwegian.

  50. Post update

Callum McGregor's sixth-minute opener gives Celtic a potentially crucial away goal. That's his fourth goal of the season.

Callum McGregor celebrates after scoring for Celtic against NK Maribor
  51. Post update

The Maribor full-backs want in on the action now as Stojanovic storms in from the right and powers in a shot that is parried away by Craig Gordon.

  52. Post update

Celtic cause Maribor problems from the set-piece with the corner flicked away by a defender at the near post and Mikael Lustig's header zipping just over the crossbar

  53. Post update

The Celtic full-backs are really bombing forward and this time it's Mikael Lustig earning a corner from another enterprising burst into enemy territory.

  54. CLOSE!

Celtic captain Charlie Mulgrew meets a Stefan Johansen corner at the back post and his header is cleared from under the crossbar by Filipovic.

  55. Post update

A patient passing phase from Celtic is followed by a powerful surge from Emilio Izaguirre and it needs a good sliding interception from defender Suler to make sure Anthony Stokes does not connect with the full-back's delivery.

  56. Post update

Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner on BBC Radio Scotland

"That was just too easy for Maribor. The Celtic central defenders shouldn't be beaten by a simple pass like that."

  57. Post update

    Alasdair Lamont

    Senior football reporter, BBC Scotland

"Virgil van Dijk is perhaps fortunate the referee allowed the advantage there because he could have been off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. As it is, the news still isn't great for Celtic as they lose their early lead, just as they did in Warsaw. They need to regain their composure, which they didn't do in Poland."

  58. GOAL

    Maribor 1-1 Celtic (Bohar)

The Celtic defence is split wide open as Damjan Bohar calmly slots past Craig Gordon after latching on to a Zelijko Filipovic through ball. Marcos Tavares was sent tumbling by a challenge from Virgil van Dijk but that did not distract his team-mate.

  59. Post update

Mikael Lustig marauds forward from right-back and works a low pass to Anthony Stokes in the penalty box but the striker can't quite get hold of the ball and is soon crowded out by a cluster of purple shirts.

  60. Post update

Maribor look rattled by that early goal and are giving the ball away cheaply in midfield as Celtic press sharply and snap into tackles.

  61. Post update

    Alasdair Lamont

    Senior football reporter, BBC Scotland

"Great start for Celtic, but really poor defending from NK Maribor. Once again though it's young Callum McGregor who gets them off and running. He's been their best player so far this season and he's given his side the ideal start here."

  62. GOAL

    Maribor 0-1 Celtic (McGregor)

Jo Inge Berget latches on to Stefan Johansen's lofted pass and forces a save from Jasmin Handovic from a tight angle. The ball rolls out to the edge of the six yard box and Callum McGregor is on hand to hammer in the rebound.

  63. Post update

A ball over the top of the Celtic defence has Marcos Tavares scurrying forward but new Celtic defender Jason Denayer is over quickly and confidently to mop up.

  64. Text us on 80295

Andrew: "I can't be the only one who is a little bit apprehensive about the repreive Celtic have been given in the Champions League. I have an awful fear that they are going to be embarrassed all over again over two legs against this superior Maribor side. It'll be like groundhog day."

  65. Post update

Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre gets forward to deliver a cross into the Maribor penalty area but the home side deal with it without any fuss.

  66. Post update

    Alasdair Lamont

    Senior football reporter, BBC Scotland

"Good atmosphere inside this compact stadium. The locals are noisy, though the section where their Ultras are usually housed is closed because of issues with racist chants."

  67. KICK-OFF

Celtic striker Anthony Stokes gets the game started...

  68. Post update

Maribor's tidy ground Ljudski vrt translates as 'People's Garden' and it holds around 12,000, so it shouldn't be too intimidating, given Celtic have been at the Nou Camp and San Siro in recent seasons.

A section of the ground is closed tonight after some offensive chanting from fans against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

  69. Post update

The teams emerge from the tunnel. Maribor in a natty purple kit and Celtic in their traditional hoops. That anthem strikes up. Not long to go now...

  70. Post update

Manager Ronny Deila thinks Celtic have improved following their chastening loss to Legia, saying last night: "We have to show that we have learned from those games.

"It was a tough experience but an important experience I hope and we will take those things into the game.

"The players look fitter, quicker, sharper in the passing and pressing so I am sure we will get a better performance."

  71. Post update

As John on Twitter says, Agim Ibraimi is another one to watch for in the home side. The Macedonia attacking midfielder spent last season on loan with Cagliari in Serie A and Maribor say Celtic were keen on him before the 25-year signed a new deal this week.

  72. Post update

Just to clarify, Tavares is the Maribor skipper and a very useful Brazilian striker, who just happens to share a name with the American soul outfit who released Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel in 1976...

  73. Join the debate at #bbcsportscot

John McEnerney: "#bbcsportscot Tavares & Ibraimi a free scoring midfielder will be the threats 2 The Hoops. Early away goal & tight defending. Mon The Hoops!"

  74. Post update

And Celtic do appear to have been galvanised since their unexpected reprieve, opening the defence of their Premiership title with 3-0 and 6-1 wins, against St Johnstone and Dundee United respectively.

  75. Post update

Celtic assistant manager John Collins reckons Maribor are "probably a similar standard" to Legia, so should Celtic be worried? Collins preferred to take a positive view, pointing out that the visiting team are "further forward in preparation and match practice".

  76. Join the debate at #bbcsportscot

Celtic will kick off in around 15 minutes

Celtic Football Club on Twitter: "This is what it's all about tonight as the stadium starts to fill before kick off #UCL"

  77. Post update

    Alasdair Lamont

    Senior football reporter, BBC Scotland

"Jason Denayer made an impressive debut for Celtic at the weekend, scoring the first in the 6-1 win over Dundee United. He did have a couple of shaky moments early in that match though and his defensive capabilities will be given a sterner test this evening by the strikeforce of Tavares and Agim Ibraimi."

  78. Post update

Maribor have a good recent record against Scottish opponents, having hammered Hibs 6-2 on aggregate in Europa League qualifying in 2010 and edging out Rangers 3-2 in the same competition the following year.

That was revenge for a 6-1 going over from Rangers in Champions League qualifying 13 years ago.

  79. Post update

So what do we know about the Slovenian champions? Like Celtic, they are top dogs at domestic level, having won the last four league titles.

This is the third year running they have reached the Champions League play-off round, having only once made it to the group stage of Europe's premier contest, way back in 1999.

To get here they beat Zrinjski Mostar of Bosnia and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

  80. Post update

    Tom English

    BBC Scotland

"Celtic are going to have to play particularly well to go through."

  81. Text us on 80295

Andy from Cumbernauld: "Commons is largely out of his depth at this level. Rather like Kris Boyd in his pomp, he can be unplayable at domestic level but when there's a step up? Nobody could point to any performance he put in wearing a Scotland top and say we're missing him during his self-imposed exile at all. He needs time on the ball and to be in a dominant team that has a monopoly of play. In games at this level, or in games where the opposition is technically superior or technically on par, he just isn't effective."

  82. Post update

BBC Radio Scotland match commentator Liam McLeod

    BBC Sport

"We've got Czech officials this evening. Pavel Kralovec is the referee and ironically enough he was the referee exactly a year ago in Kazakhstan when Celtic played Shakhter Karagandy."

  83. Post update

    Efe Ambrose

Defender Efe Ambrose, who is on the bench, was a late arrival in Slovenia, with Celtic unsure of his eligibility. The Nigerian did not travel with the rest of the squad but was sent for when it was established that his ban for a red card against Legia in Poland was served in the return leg, although the result was overturned.

Scott Brown, James Forrest and Adam Matthews are on the visitors' injured list and a deal to sign Ghana winger Wakaso Mubarak was not completed before last night's transfer deadline.

  84. Post update

    Alasdair Lamont

    Senior football reporter, BBC Scotland

"It's a gloomy sky over the Stadion Ljudski vrt, with rain falling almost incessantly throughout the day. That will certainly make for a slick surface, which should help Celtic move the ball quickly but their opponents are, by all accounts, a good passing team as well, so it will suit them too. Ronny Deila looks to have gone for a more solid approach than against Legia Warsaw, with Kris Commons being sacrificed for Beram Kayal. He did say lessons have been learned from the Legia games."

  85. LINE-UPS

Maribor: Handanovic, Stojanovic, Rajcevic, Suler, Viler, Vrsic, Filipovic, Dervisevic, Bohar, Tavares, Ibraimi. Subs: Cotman, Mejac, Sallalich, Zahovic, Mendy, Arghus, Mertelj.

Celtic: Gordon, Lustig, Denayer, van Dijk, Izaguirre, Johansen, Mulgrew, McGregor, Kayal, Berget, Stokes. Subs: Zaluska, Ambrose, Biton, Commons, Pukki, Griffiths, Henderson.

    Referee: Pavel Kralovec (Czech Republic)

  86. Post update

The big news is that playmaker Kris Commons is not included in the Celtic starting line-up, with Beram Kayal coming in to beef up the midfield.

  87. Post update

Legia pleaded their case to Uefa and the Court of Arbitration for Sport to no avail and relieved Celtic fans were raising a quiet glass to incompetent Polish football administrators.

Now Maribor stand in Celtic's way...

  88. Post update

"Great Escape?" asks the one person who has been living in a cave in darkest Peru since Celtic were well and truly skelped in the previous round. Well, Legia Warsaw may have been 6-1 winners on aggregate but Uefa punished them for fielding a suspended player in the closing minutes of the second leg.

It meant the Poles' 2-0 victory in Scotland was overturned to 3-0 in Celtic's favour and the Scottish champions were through on away goals.

  89. Post update

Good evening and welcome to our coverage of Celtic's Champions League play-off first leg. Can Ronny Deila's men make the most of their European Great Escape and progress to the group stage for the third year running?
