"The trials and tribulations of Transfer Deadline Day - it's well worth it!"
Post update
Owen Coyle
Football Focus
"This day puts a lot of people under pressure, particularly smaller clubs. And there's huge pressure in the Premier League, a rush to get things in place for the end of the window."
On Twitter, there were more than 1.6m references to transfer deadline day on Friday 31 January (up to 23:00 GMT).
The most mentioned players were:
1. Kim Kallstrom
2. Yevhen Konoplyanka
3. Julian Draxler
4. Dimitar Berbatov
5. Kurt Zouma
Interestingly, two of those five didn't go through in the end...

"Kim Kallstrom will come into the Arsenal midfield. It's a temporary signing, but the front of the Gunners team is still a problem. It's a gamble, though we trust in Arsene Wenger. There is no big worry, but compare what Man City have and the forward line is still a problem for Arsenal."
Ethan: I will guarantee that Konoplyanka will move to another Premier League club in the summer. Just do the deals Liverpool, and get them done.
Andrew: So instead of Arsenal signing a striker that they so desperately need, they've gone and loaned one out to Watford for the rest of the season! Classic Arsene Wenger transfer logic.
Valencia confusion
We were all a bit surprised that Valencia signed Philippe Senderos earlier on this evening. But perhaps Valencia's tweet welcoming him to the club but showing a picture of Brede Hangeland may explain it all.
Mistaken identity...?

"Tom Ince is at Palace and I feel he's a real talent. I'm surprised a lot of the bigger clubs haven't gone for him - I expect him to go from strength-to-strength now. He'll be a breath of fresh air for them now, as Palace look like they're getting themselves out of trouble."
A late one has gone through, a move of sorts, as Razvan Rat has been released from West Ham by mutual consent. The Romanian left-back has been reasonably heavily involved this year so it's a bit of a strange one. He does free up a place in the squad though.
"Liverpool had a deal agreed with Yevhen Konoplyanka - the player wanted to come to Liverpool. In the end it didn't happen because the owner of the Ukrainian club refused to sign the relevant paperwork."

Palace latest
Danny Murphy
Football Focus
"The five players Palace have signed today are all British, and all known to the manager. They will certainly be able to hit the ground running."
New Palace winger Tom Ince on 5 live Sport: "It's never nice to leave a club like Blackpool, who have done ever so well for me. I had three fantastic years there, but when an opportunity like this comes around... as soon as I met Tony Pulis and Steve Parish at Palace it felt like the right thing for me. I'm very happy.
"I spoke to Tony and it's amazing how well Tony has done there since he came in, and he said to me I was someone he needs, someone who can run at people and create some magic in the final third. Steve has worked hard behind the scenes to get me to Palace and I'm grateful for that.
"I had a gut feeling - Palace was for me and I'm going to be happy to play in a Palace shirt."
BreakingDONE DEAL
Joe Ledley to Crystal Palace
And Crystal Palace's fine deadline day concludes with confirmation that they have signed Joe Ledley from Celtic on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Stephen Dobbie has also moved to Blackpool on loan until the end of the season.
Paul Ince on BBC radio 5 live: "I feel like [Crystal Palace chairman] Steve Parish is my wife, the amount of time I've spent with him today but we got there in the end.
"Other clubs wanted a permanent deal but we felt that wasn't right - we wanted to take a loan deal and see what the options are at the end of the season.
"Steve Parish has been fantastic and I'd like to thank Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston because he's played a massive part in getting this over the line.
"The only ones who could take Thomas were Palace and Swansea. I had a good conversation with [Swansea chairman] Huw Jenkins but we felt that Tony Pulis sold the club to Thomas and that he'd be part of the club and play games. He'll have that opportunity to show what he can do under Tony Pulis."
Middlesbrough latest
Peterborough confirm that they have accepted a bid from Middlesbrough for forward Lee Tomlin but the clubs must wait and see if the deal went through before the deadline.

Liverpool latest
David Pleat
Former Tottenham manager on 5 live Sport
"I saw Liverpool beat Everton the other day - they played superbly well. I don't think it's a tragedy that they did not sign this eastern European winger today. No-one knew him that well, and any foreign player is a bit of a gamble. They would have paid good money for him as well. I don't think it's a tragedy for Liverpool - they've got a good, settled squad at the moment. If I was Liverpool gunning for the top four I wouldn't worry."
We are still waiting for Crystal Palace to confirm that they have indeed signed both Joe Ledley and Thomas Ince before the deadline, while Middlesbrough hope to land forward Lee Tomlin from Peterborough.

"What I'm trying to establish is whether Liverpool have submitted their deal sheet, which has to have gone to the Premier League by now if they have any chance of signing Yevhen Konoplyanka today. The club have been saying nothing and as yet no-one knows whether this has got over the line."

"It's important to stress that although the window has closed there is still a drip-drip effect that deals can still be announced. I must stress that because Yevhen Konoplyanka is an international deal Liverpool have an extra hour to file the paperwork. But there's still no word from Liverpool.
"Graham Dorrans didn't join Middlesbrough from West Brom - the Baggies pulled the plug right at the end.
"And QPR are still hopefully of that Modibo Maiga deal on loan from West Ham."

"Newcastle fans might have been concerned that Papiss Cisse had been linked with a late move to Cardiff, but he's going nowhere. He's staying put - they couldn't have afforded to lose him."
Philip Beard, chief executive of QPR, on 5 live Sport: "We're in the process of sorting Modibo Maiga before the deadline. You get a bit of leeway with the timings with a loanee, and we're confident we can get it sorted. If you ask most clubs their priority going in to the window, people who can score goals are at a premium. We had identified that as an issue and that was magnified massively last weekend when Charlie Austin damaged his shoulder. He's out for certainly a few months.
"Will Keane is coming to us on loan from Manchester United. Harry Redknapp is a fantastic manager of young talent. Look at what happened with Andros Townsend, who performed at a high level when he was here and then became one of the top international players last season."

QPR have signed another striker! They can't resist in the final hour. Impossible.
They have signed Manchester United youngster Will Keane on loan. Harry Redknapp's fourth deadline day signing,
BBC Sport's Steve Crossman reports: "So, Danny Graham looks like's joined Middlesbrough - we're awaiting confirmation but my understanding is that it's gone through.
"Graham Dorrans is also a target. West Brom may have pulled the plug on this one at the last minute. If that's true - and it looks increasingly like it is - it's still possible Boro will turn their attention to Lee Tomlin from Peterborough.
"If either join, Marvin Emnes will go to Swansea. If neither join, Aitor Karanka will have a big decision to make about allowing him to leave."
Everton done
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty
"Everton have confirmed there will be no more dealings tonight. They were trying to get a midfield player in but it hasn't happened. It would have been a bonus. There are areas of the squad that are a bit thin but they seem happy with what they've got."
Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston on 5 live Sport: "I've left the ground and our poor secretary is sitting in his cold office waiting for various faxes. He will call me if anything gets concluded.
"We were open-minded to start with regarding Tom Ince, then we've become minded to seek a permanent deal. The player wants to go on loan and play in the Premier League, and we understand that.
"I think the transfer window, various aspects are a bit pointless. We all whip ourselves into a frenzy on the last day when we could have done our business weeks ago.
"We'd agreed after Paul Ince left that Tom could go out on loan. It's no secret that various clubs have been spoken to.
"We're working on bringing Stephen Dobbie the other way from Crystal Palace. This one has been one of the most protracted things I've been involved in in 15 years in football. I won't be surprised if we have a last-minute hitch.
"But Palace have been around asking questions for months, so I'll be pleased if they land their man. It'll be great to see him in the Premier League."

"The clubs at the bottom of the table, fighting to survive, have done all the business. The mid-table sides haven't been too busy at all. Crystal Palace's window has been interesting. The surprising thing to me is £3m on goalkeeper Hennessey, whereas I think Julian Speroni has done really well over a number of seasons. Tony Pulis is bolstering his squad while looking to the summer when he may ship a few players out."
Arsenal have completed the signing of Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom on loan until the end of the season from Russian club Spartak Moscow:
Kris Smith: He has international pedigree and is a good, experienced head in a young midfield. Not a stellar signing by any means, but is a real world signing in a real world game.
"Clubs will get experts to read your scan, but the expert might not be available. Sometimes the guy will be in London or in Sweden whose expertise is a specific part of the body, and the clubs will only deal with them, they will only listen to certain people.
"Sometimes clubs will do the medical, find a problem, then renegotiate the contract. Instead of a three-year contract, two years with a third based on appearances. That can be the way of nicking a little more money back."
So which deals could still happen before the end of the window in just over an hour?
Liverpool remain keen on signing Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.
Fulham want to sign Johnny Heitinga from Everton as well as two young players from Manchester United.
Swansea could sign Marvin Emnes, Stoke remain keen on Jonathan Pitroipa, Thomas Ince has to sign for someone and Crystal Palace are in the hunt for Joe Ledley as well.
Stay tuned...

"I was in bits - I'd told everyone I was going to sign, my family and friends. Then a day later they got a second opinion and it turned out they'd read the scan wrong. I was fine, and I joined Liverpool."
We had a lot of people texting or tweeting in to ask about medicals earlier on as we awaited confirmation of the Kim Kallstrom deal. The consensus was that it was taking too long.

"Blackpool wanted a loan deal for Tom Ince, but we were unable to do that. We were unable to secure the purchase, so that won't happen.
"Jonathan Pitroipa of French club Stade Rennais is a late possibility now, the only player we're still trying to bring in. Then that would be that, with nobody leaving."
"It's our understanding that Yevhen Konoplyanka has undergone a medical. It's not to say this deal is going to go ahead, but Liverpool are hopeful of completing this before 11 o'clock."

THREE HOURS TO GO
Three hours left of the transfer window then. Any more for any more?
What is going on at Leeds?

Crazy goings on at Elland Road then.
It was reported earlier this afternoon that Massimo Cellino, the owner of Italian club Cagliari, was close to an agreement to buy a stake in Leeds, believed to be about 75%.
Before that, managing director David Haigh had announced on Thursday that his consortium's bid for the club had collapsed because of a lack of funds.
The Elland Road club is currently - as far as we know - owned by Dubai-based investment group GFH Capital.
Cellino had been reported to be keen to replace manager Brian McDermott with former Middlesbrough defender Gianluca Festa.
And speaking to Radio Leeds on Friday, McDermott admitted he was not sure if he would be in charge of the club beyond their Championship derby against Huddersfield Town.
"I've got no idea if I'll be here after Saturday's match. In football any game could be your last match so you have to make the most of it, especially at a club like Leeds United," he said.
As it turns out McDermott didn't even make it to Saturday's game. Festa the answer?

"Brian McDermott is no longer the manager of Leeds United. It's incredible for a manager to lose his job on Deadline Day, something which we've never really heard of before. Had the situation become untenable for him there?"

Liverpool latest
Martin Keown
5 live Sport
"Yevhen Konoplyanka is an outstanding player, beyond all doubt. It shows real intent from Liverpool. My own reservation would be that those sorts of players from eastern Europe often don't do it in the Premier League. That would be my worry, but he is an outstanding talent."

Leeds United have sacked manager Brian McDermott, reports BBC Radio Leeds:
Peter Murphy: Crazy night. What are Leeds thinking of?
Andrew Webb: Very strange - McDermott stabilised Leeds, so sacking is very harsh.
Gareth Palfrey-Evans: Feel sorry for Brian McDermott as he is a good guy with incredible integrity in a ruthless industry.

Phoebe: As a Villa fan I'm very nervous about the lack of signings - worried that this could be the year we eventually go down.
Simon: Best deal of the day for Fulham? Getting rid of lazy, disruptive Berbatov. Let's hope it's not too late...
John: As a life-long Fulham fan, I'm glad Berbatov's gone. He did nothing for us. I hope the replacement keeps us in the Premier League.
Peterborough latest
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed on Twitter that three different clubs have bid for forward Lee Tomlin today.
The 25-year-old wants leave for a bigger club. Posh are desperate to keep him, but director of football Barry Fry is in his office at London Road, just in case their valuation is met. Celtic were keen on him in the summer.

Ian Marks: It's times like this, as a Spurs fan, that I miss Harry Redknapp.
Neil Gray: In all seriousness, how much more turmoil are Leeds fans going to suffer at the hands of successive owners?
Iain Russell: Blackburn better not lose Rhodes in the last minute of this window...
Arsenal latest
Martin Keown
5 live Sport
"Not bringing in a striker is a huge gamble by Arsenal at this stage of the season, especially when you look at Man City raining goals. If Arsenal don't win the title then people will point to this. Be sure, the next big cheque that's signed in the summer will be for a striker."

I've nothing against Adam Le Fondre, he's a good striker, but if Cardiff wanted to buy him surely they could have got him early in January? Nobody makes a move now unless it's a panic buy...

Stoke latest
BBC Radio 5 live
Stoke chairman Peter Coates on 5 live Sport: "The Lee Cattermole deal is dead. We thought that was going to happen and it hasn't - we're not quite sure why. We thought there was a deal to be done, but now there isn't - you need to ask Sunderland about that.
Liverpool latest
BBC Sport's Ben Smith
"It's our understanding that Yevhen Konoplyanka has undergone a medical. It's not to say this deal is going to go ahead, but Liverpool are hopeful of completing this before 11 o'clock."

Graham Brown: Shame Everton didn't sell Fellaini for £27m, Jelavic for £6m, received TV money of £60m. Could buy players then. Wait...
Harry Robinson: Arsene Wenger needs to dig out just a bit of money to pay for Draxler...
Iain Jeffree: As a Palace fan, what a great set of captures these are. Safety here we come!

Swansea latest
BBC Radio 5 live
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins on 5 live Sport: "If you look at our first team squad, it was always Michael Laudrup's decision to keep a small, close-knit squad. It's been well documented how many injuries we've had in the last six to eight weeks, but now they're all coming back to fitness. So the majority of signings we've made are for our youth team, our under-21 squad.
"There was no bid for Chico Flores today - that rumour was completely untrue.
"As things stood earlier we were trying to complete a deal for Middleborough forward Marvin Emnes - and I think that will still go through.
"Today we looked at Barry Bannan but I don't think any deal was possible."

Owen Coyle
5 live Sport
"[On reports that Gianluca Festa was around the Leeds dugout in midweek] If you come in as a manager then you're there, to pick the team and run it your own way. You have to stand by your principles and convictions. I don't know what's happened at Leeds, but for me if a new owner came in and told me someone was sitting next to me on the bench... well, I wouldn't have it.
"The Leeds fans are quite right to be up in arms. There has been such turmoil, but I think that's down to the things behind the scenes. That can't have helped Brian McDermott.
"There are no doubts that Brian would have had Leeds up there, fighting for the promotion places."

Fulham latest
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty

"As we said earlier, whether Heitinga departs on or not may well impact on whether Everton manager Roberto Martinez adds to his squad."

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has joined Birmingham City on loan until the end of the season. Tom Thorpe and Tyler Blackett did the same earlier today.

"Just on Tom Ince, it's incredible. Two clubs were given permission to speak to him about a loan move, which was Swansea and Crystal Palace. Stoke wanted a permanent move, but the player wants a loan move and to keep his options open.
"But Blackpool won't be bullied and I believe they're now in favour of a permanent transfer, bearing in mind Ince's contract is up at the end of the season. Half an hour ago, there was no progress whatsoever, It could be Tom Ince ends up back at Bloomfield Road tonight."
