All times stated are UK

  1. Until tomorrow...

    Dan Lawrence

And that's us just about done for today.

We'll be back again from 10:50 BST on Friday for the second day of all nine matches. We hope to see you then!

  2. Close of play

    Surrey v Leicestershire 215-3

Ah, and it looks like we've finished ahead of schedule - presumably for bad light for the fourth time today!

Leicestershire end the day on 215-3 and will be very pleased with the platform they've built for themselves.

  3. 100 for Sam Evans

    Surrey v Leicestershire 215-3

    Well played, Sam Evans.

The Leicestershire brings up his century off 225 deliveries, including 12 boundaries.

We're into the final couple of overs at The Oval.

  4. Close of play

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 24-2

Will Rhodes takes a single and then appears to regret it. But night watchman Danny Briggs is able to block out the last few deliveries.

Evenly poised between these two sides at the end of day one.

  5. WICKET - Vihari (b Broad c Hameed) 0

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 23-2

With his last delivery of the day, Stuart Broad finds the edge of India international Hanuma Vihari and Haseeb Hameed takes a low catch in the slips.

Just an over remains, Dane Paterson to bowl it.

  6. Close of play

    Essex 96 v Durham 148-8

No further drama in the last over.

What a day of cricket. After winning the toss, Essex collapsed to 96 all out, their lowest ever score against Durham.

In response, skipper Scott Borthwick hit a superb century before getting bowled late on by Dan Lawrence.

The visitors lead by 52 runs with two wickets remaining. We could be finished in Chelmsford by the end of tomorrow!

  7. WICKET - Raine (b Harmer c A Cook) 1

    Essex 96 v Durham 144-8

    Wicket number 18.

Ben Raine prods forward but gets his angles all wrong and edges it to Alastair Cook with seven balls until stumps.

    Harmer has a four-for.

  8. Post update

    Essex 96 v Durham 144-7

Dan Lawrence finally gets to finish off his over to Stuart Poynter.

    No runs added.

It's now 12 balls to go until stumps at Chelmsford too.

  9. Post update

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 11-1

Two more maidens Warwickshire safely block out.

Only 12 more deliveries until stumps at Trent Bridge.

  10. Post update

    Essex 96 v Durham 144-7

With the exception of those day-night games, I can't imagine there's been many County Championship matches that have resumed playing at 19:05 BST before.

  11. Post update

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 11-1

But we still play in Nottinghamshire where Zak Chappell and Stuart Broad are continuing to steam in with the new ball at Trent Bridge.

Will Rhodes and Hanuma Vihari are holding firm though with four overs remaining before stumps.

  12. Close of play

    Glamorgan 285 v Sussex 99-0

The day is also done at Cardiff.

Aaron Thomas (52 not out) and Tom Haines (43 not out) have seen Sussex through to 99-0 at the close, trailing Glamorgan by 186.

  13. Close of play

    Derbyshire 360-8 v Worcestershire

West Indian international Alzarri Joseph becomes the third man today to take two wickets in two balls as he removes tailenders Fynn Hudson-Prentice (six) and Michael Cohen (0) in the penultimate over.

A brilliant spell just before stumps gives Worcestershire a glimmer of hope.

But today was all about the batting, where the fifth-wicket partnership between Matthew Crithchley (109) and Harvey Hosein (65 not out) has given the hosts control in this fixture.

  14. Rain stops play

    Essex 96 v Durham 144-7

Ah the dark clouds have returned.

With a little under eight overs still to go this could be stumps too.

  15. Post update

    Essex 96 v Durham 143-7

And Ben Raine blocks really well.

  16. WICKET - Carse (Lawrence b) 0

    Essex 96 v Durham 143-7

Another hat-trick chance as Dan Lawrence gets two in two!

Brydon Carse goes first ball and Durham are 143-7.

Ben Raine is the night watchman.

  17. Close of play

    Hampshire 281-8 v Middlesex

Plenty of batsmen got starts but that just about feels like Middlesex's day in the end.

Ian Holland (64) and Sam Northeast (63) were most guilty of failing to go on, while all five visiting bowlers used on day one took at least one wicket.

  18. WICKET - Borthwick (b Lawrence) 100

    Essex 96 v Durham 143-6

100 and then out for Durham's Scott Borthwick.

The skipper finally misjudges one and is off to the dressing room just before stumps.

It's been a great day for the visitors though who will likely reach close with a 50-run lead.

  19. Close of play

    Kent v Yorkshire 358-8

Stumps on a good day for Yorkshire in Canterbury. It may have swung back and forth in the first two sessions but a strong finish from Yorkshire's tail has but them in control.

  20. Post update

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 4-1

If Broad doesn't get you, Zak Chappell will.

Rob Yates goes first ball, caught behind and Chappell sprints away in celebration. Hanuma Vihari is the new man in.
