  1. Post update

That's us done for tonight, though. However, you don't have to wait long for your next fix of live cricket.

The Women's Big Bash final is tomorrow morning.

Melbourne Stars v Sydney Thunder, Brunt and Sciver v Knight and Beaumont, is live across the BBC.

    See you then.

  2. Post update

Honest stuff from Eoin Morgan, there.

To mark you card, the next T20 is on Sunday, starting at 12:30 GMT.

  3. Post update

More from Eoin Morgan: "It's certainly not doom and gloom. It's the beginning of a tour and we'll improve over the next few games.

"Whether we get the results, I don't know, but we need to be doing the right things.

"At least when you win, you can sit back and be a little bit pleased."

  4. Post update

England captain Eoin Morgan: "It's extremely pleasing. It's a very good win. We were pretty average apart from two or three guys. Jonny has had an unbelievable day out. I thought South Africa were above par, then we were three down.

"Jonny and Stokes set it up nicely, and to win when you're not at your best is pleasing.

"With the ball we were a tad too full, then with the bat not building partnerships. You can't do that chasing a score like that."

  5. Post update

South Africa captain Quinton de Kock on Sky Sports: "We did think it was a good total. But unfortunately it didn't come off tonight."

On Beuran Hendricks' over that cost 28: "I don't think it was necessarily the one over. Jonny batted really well - he changed his game plan to the pitch and conditions."

Chiggers: Felt England had no chance after 6 overs with 3 down. Fabulous of Bairstow. Love watching when it is close. Made my Friday evening.

  7. Post update

Man of the match Jonny Bairstow on Sky Sports: "It's always pleasing to start the series with some runs. To get over the line and go 1-0 up means we're all happy in the camp.

"You learn to craft innings in different ways. That has stood me in good stead. We're flexible over the order and fortunate enough that people can come in and play different innings.

"I was happy with how played in the IPL, though disappointed not to finish the competition in the team."

Rachel T: Jonny B brilliant - total marmalisation.

  9. Post update

Mr Snrub: Terrible night for Bairstow who’s done himself out of an opening slot.

  11. How's stat?!

    Andy Zaltzman

    Test Match Special statistician

Bairstow's 86 not out is the third-highest by an England batsman in a successful T20 chase. Alex Hales has the top two.

Rob Stow: Jonny Bairstow. What a player.

Ed Jonas: what a fantastic innings from Bairstow.

  13. Post update

    Tymal Mills

    England bowler

An excellent win and a really good game of cricket to start the series. Bairstow was brilliant with the bat and Sam Curran brilliant with the ball. There's plenty to build on but an exciting start.

  14. Post update

There were sticky moments for England. Rusty with the ball, iffy with the bat in the powerplay, then needing 51 from four overs before Hendricks was given the treatment. Still, with that batting depth, they are so hard to beat.

Naveed: This England team are just something else. From 1 to 11 they have match winners and on any given day, one of them will hurt you and hurt you big. Bairstow take a bow son. It’s that Yorkshire grit we have.

  16. England win by five wickets

    Eng 183-5

    Won with a six!

    Jonny Bairstow, take a bow!

Ngidi is whalloped over deep mid-wicket. Bairstow ends with 86 from 46.

Remember, England were 34-3. They've won with four balls to spare.

  17. Eng 177-5

    Target 180

Four! Bairstow drags it to the square leg fence.

  18. Eng 173-5

    Target 180

    Lungi Ngidi to bowl it...

  19. Post update

    Tymal Mills

    England bowler

That six swings the game massively in England's favour. They should get home from here now.

  20. Eng 173-5

    Target 180

Bairstow takes a single to long-on to keep the strike. Seven to win from the final over. Six for a super over.
