Joe Root and Jos Buttler both hit hundreds - but it wasn't enough for England.

  2. Post update

England's fielding was really slack today. Did that set the tone?

  3. Post update

Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz, speaking to Sky Sports: "That means a lot, after losing 11 games consecutively, we needed something. Hats off to the boys for the way they have bounced back.

Where have you been? "I've been on holiday!"

  4. Post update

Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz on Sky Sports: "Playing in England it is always a 300+ wicket and there was a lot of pressure on our batsmen after being bowled out for 105 the other day. They did brilliantly to come back.

"Getting Bairstow and Roy early is key. They can take the game away from you."

  5. 'We were outfielded'

England captain Eoin Morgan: "It was a very good game of cricket and a great advertisement for the tournament. We're bitterly disappointed to be on the wrong end of the result though.

"Trent Bridge is a high scoring ground, we felt the wicket was good, the outfield was rapid and we thought if we got partnerships going, 350 was in our grasp.

"Joe and Jos kept us in the game. If we could have got a substantial partnership earlier, we might have got over the line.

"We were outfielded and that was the difference. Our performance will go up and down but our fielding was below par. That should remain constant."

  6. 'Today we feel better'

Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed: "It was a great team effort. Bowlers bowled really well today. We tried a couple of different things - we started with Shadab because we know their openers are not good against spin.

"Fielding is a very important part. In the last ODI series it was dfifferent. Today we feel better and we bowl better."

More from Joe Root on TMS: "I felt we had to build a partnership, lay a partnership where we really could go at them at the end. It's such a difficult ground to defend if you've got wickets at the back end but unfortunately we just lost them at the wrong time.

"We've by nowhere near played our best cricket throughout these two games so with that still to come we feel like we're in a good place."

SMS Message: England to win the World Cup? Ha ha ha ha ha ha. There is more chance of Donald Trump and the Queen announcing that they will be taking part in the next series of Strictly. I honestly don't know why we ever hype up English teams. from Richard, London

  9. 'Very disappointed'

England centurion Joe Root speaking to Test Match Special: "Very disappointed if I'm being honest. One thing we have to make sure we don't do is panic and go away from what's been so successful for us.

"Credit to Pakistan, they played some really good stuff, I thought it was a great game of cricket. We probably just left a little too much to do at the end. That's probably my fault."

  10. Post update

    Michael Vaughan

    Ex-England captain on TMS

England's fielding certainly cost them 30 or 40 runs. Full credit to Pakistan - the support they've had, the atmosphere they created. I think we're in for a fantastic tourament because of all the support. I think we're going right to the wire.

  11. Post update

That's a couple of 'shock' results in a row. There's not as much between these 10 sides as you may think.

What's up on Tuesday? Afghanistan v Sri Lanka in Cardiff, that's what.

  12. 'A total team effort'

Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez, who hit 84 off 62 and took the wicket of Eoin Morgan: "Everyone was believing we could do this. We were playing good cricket but not winning crucial stages of the game. Everyone chipped in today and gave everything which was required to win the game.

"We needed one winning performance and then everyone contributed accordingly. It was a total team effort. It is a very happy dressing room."

  13. Post update

Pakistan batsman Mohammad Hafeez did win player of the match.

    Great knock.

  14. Post update

England's over rate was well below par by the way, and there's the suggestion that captain Eoin Morgan could be facing disciplinary action...

  15. Post update

    Michael Vaughan

    Ex-England captain on TMS

That was a five-and-a-half, probably six out of 10 performance by England, yet they only lost by 14 runs, so there's a positive.

Jos Buttler's 103 runs from 75 deliveries is the ninth fastest century in Cricket World Cup history and England's fastest ever in the competition
