England must be praying Jason Roy hasn't peaked too soon.

    87, 76, 114, 32, 89* are his last five scores.

Here's where he scored his runs today...

England captain Eoin Morgan: "The guys put in a real strong performance today. Afghanistan are a very strong side and we are well aware of that.

"For a long time the competition for places has been extremely strong in our team. The selection of the final 11 will be tough. We have different options and hopefully on the day we will select the right one.

"Jason Roy showed exceptional form yet again today, Jonny Bairstow and the bowlers as well. We always look to be as aggressive as we can with the bat but the surface and opposition might determine we have to play smarter cricket."

And on Thursday, World Cup opener against South Africa: "It will be an extremely tough game. It will be a belting opener if you are a cricket fan. The venue and wicket won't let us down so hopefully the performance won't either."

England have to be strategic with Mark Wood. They will have to pick him in games where having two 90mph bowlers will be particularly beneficial. I was always little nervous about including Wood in this squad.

We haven't seen him be consistently fit for a long period. If you have got two 90mph bowlers then that is what you want.

  7. Post update

Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib: "We didn’t take responsibility with the bat at the start of the day. England bowled really well, so credit to the bowlers. The home conditions also made it difficult for us. But if you bat first, you have to put a good total on the board.

"We saw some tremendous cricket from England today so we will learn from that, solve our mistakes in the batting and go from there."

Jofra Archer was getting some good bounce and good pace; you could see the Afghanistan players didn’t fancy it.

That opening partnership of Archer and Mark Wood is as good as it gets. They kept everything tight and tidy today.

The opening game of the World Cup is at this ground on Thursday, remember.

    England v South Africa.

  10. Post update

England batsman Jason Roy: "I am feeling really good. I want the tournament to start now. It was a good preparation leading into Thursday. They (Afghanistan) have got great lineup with their spin bowlers. I got used to Rashid's pace so was nice to get some time out there.

"We want to be doing this on Thursday and doing it throughout the whole tournament. The World Cup can't come soon enough."

I read a lot of reports that Afghanistan could cause a few shocks in this tournament and may even force a slip-up from England today. But the gulf between the two teams so was noticeable, especially the batting, it was massive.

Jake Berry: Why did Afghanistan agree to play England just days before the World Cup? Confidence will be low, just like Pakistan's, at such a crucial time. Not much benefit in this game for England either after the Australia match.

The Oval shouts "shottttt" in unison as Roy crashes another boundary at the end of the over. The best opener in the world right now?

England look ruthless so far, they are playing with freedom and ease. It is looking a bit like a net for them at the moment.
