  1. See you tonight!

And on that note, we shall close down this page.

Have a read of the report here, and join us back at 4am on Friday morning on your way back from the Students' Union/as you do a night feed for day four from Galle.

    Cheers!

  2. Post update

Keaton Jennings and Ben Foakes appear to have inked their places in the England team for at least the next few Tests.

    Long term? We shall see.

  3. 'Last summer wasn't up to scratch'

England opener Keaton Jennings on Sky: "I took risks at the right time, it felt like there was a ball in there that could get you out. It was cat and mouse at times.

"It was made easier batting with people like Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler who can smack it all over the place.

"All you can do is score runs when you get the opportunity. The summer was tough but my perfomances weren't up to scratch."

  5. Post update

    Andy Zaltzman

    The Cricket Social statistician

A lot of people would have left Keaton Jennings out of this tour. Only four of the XI who played in the last Test before Ed Smith took over are playing now.

  6. Post update

    Simon Hughes

The Analyst on The Cricket Social

The match has underlined the importance of first innings runs, which England have palpably failed to do in various matches.

They were on par for the pitch in that innings and that has allowed them to dominate.

  7. Post update

A fine three days for England, bar a slightly wild first session of the first day. Joe Root leads his troops from the pitch, they will have two days to take 10 wickets and win.

  8. SL 15-0

    Eng lead by 447

Jack Leach lands his first one on the money before some crows on the sightscreen cause some problems. There's a half bat/pad shout which drops just short of the man at short leg.

    And that's the day done.

  9. Post update

Jack Leach will have a bowl. England using five bowlers in seven overs.

  10. SL 13-0

One over left of the day. It's gloomy as now.

  11. Not out

Not out, Kaushal Silva just about grounded his bat.

  12. England review

Is that a run out? Brilliant keeping again from Ben Foakes as he reacts to sweep up a loose ball and take the bails...

  13. SL 12-0

    Trail by 450

Moeen Ali drags down a loosener and it gets what it deserves - spanked for four.

  14. SL 7-0

Adil Rashid has plenty of men close in around the bat but Dimuth Karunaratne deals with it well enough. He does though look uncertain running between the wickets, twice he sends Kaushal Silva back when twice a single was on.

  15. Post update

A different bowler every over - Adil Rashid up next.

  16. SL 6-0

    Silva 4, Karunaratne 2

Moeen looking for some drift from the off, he's overpitching a touch though. It's definitely gone a bit gloomy, looks a bit breezy as well.

  17. Post update

We've had no rain in this Test match but we do now have a light meter resting on the top of the stumps.

Play on! Moeen Ali is going to bowl now.

  18. SL 4-0

    Trail by 459

Jimmy Anderson gets the new ball from the other end, and Sri Lanka are off the mark with a push through the covers. Moeen Ali cuts it off and his knee digs into the soft turf as he does so. I never like to see a footballer doing a 'knee slide' for that reason. Dangerous stuff.

I think Moeen is all right though.
