  1. Over and out

It's been a frustrating day for many teams - gloomy and damp all over, plus the added frustration at Lord's that the floodlights were out of commission this evening because it was too windy.

But it was a wonderful day for Kent, who beat Glamorgan to secure promotion to Division One.

The good news is tomorrow's forecast is tropical by comparison to what we've seen today - in the west and south at any rate.

    Until tomorrow, goodbye.

  2. Close of play scores

    Division One:

    Yorkshire 184 & 287-5 v Hampshire 157 - Yorkshire lead by 314 runs

    Somerset 146 & 168-3 v Surrey 485 - Somerset trail by 171 runs

    Division Two:

    Sussex 343-9 v Warwickshire 440 & 141-0 - Warwickshire lead by 238 runs

    Middlesex 423 & 199-7 v Derbyshire 295 - Middlesex lead by 327 runs

    Gloucestershire 125 v Northamptonshire 173 - Northamptonshire lead by 48 runs*

*(No play Thursday due to rain)

  3. Stumps at Somerset

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 168-3

The umpires finally decide to bring an end to the day's play at Taunton.

Surrey will still fancy their chances of winning this one tomorrow so long as the rain stays away.

  4. Bad light at Taunton

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 168-3

Stop me if you've heard this before, but they're off for bad light at Taunton.

  5. On they go at Taunton

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 157-3

I'm amazed they've managed to get so many overs in at Taunton.

Somerset's fourth-wicket partnership is worth 50 runs, with Azhar Ali on 55 and Tom Abell unbeaten on 18.

There are still 10 overs to be bowled.

  6. Stumps at Lord's

    Middlesex 423 & 199-7 v Derbys 295 (lead by 327)

That will be all for the day at Lord's.

Bad light brings an end to the day's proceedings, with strong winds stopping Middlesex from being able to raise the floodlights.

There's still a chance Middlesex could force a result tomorrow if the weather conditions improve.

  7. 50 for Azhar Ali

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 143-3

Azhar Ali pulls Conor McKerr through the leg side for four runs to bring up his half-century.

His side still need 192 runs to make champions Surrey bat again.

  8. Close of play at Hove

    Sussex 343-9 v Warwks 440 & 141-0 (lead by 238)

    Bad news, I'm afraid.

The light isn't good enough to continue here so that's it for day three.

Will Rhodes survives on 76 with Dom Sibley on 43.

Great day for the Bears - who look impregnable in this game.

  9. Post update

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 134-3

Not much to tell you about in the only game still being played.

Somerset have added 17 runs since play restarted, with Azhar Ali now only nine runs short of his half-century.

  10. Wind stops play at Lord's

    Middlesex 423 & 199-7 v Derbys 295 (lead by 327)

Why no play at Lord's where they do have some floodlights?

Same problem as yesterday it turns out.

The floodlights can't be raised because the wind is too strong, so the chances of any further play look slim.

  11. Teams back out at Taunton

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 117-3

Apparently the light has miraculously improved again at Taunton.

How many minutes will they get before they're taken off again this time?

  12. Guess what?

    Middlesex 423 & 199-7 v Derbys 295 (lead by 327)

The light's too bad for play to continue at Lord's as well.

Call me a cynic, but having the County Championship season finish at the end of September just doesn't seem the brightest idea.

  13. Bad light stops play at Taunton

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 117-3

They've only been back out there a few overs at Taunton, but now they're back off for bad light.

Surely the sensible decision is to just call it stumps for the day?

  14. Bad light stops play at Hove

    Sussex 343 v Warwks 440 & 141-0 (lead by 237)

That's it for now - but it may not be for long as the wind continues to blow the dark clouds around the ground.

The umpires are staying on the field to take a light reading.

  15. Gloomy at Hove

    Sussex 343-9 v Warwks 440 & 141-0 (lead by 237)

The light is closing in here on the South Coast - which won't bother the Bears in the slightest.

Jordan gets a ball to keep low and Will Rhodes stabs down at the last moment to keep it out.

Another umpire conference about the light... We're carrying on.

Luke Wells will wish otherwise as another grubber scuttles away for four byes.

  16. WICKET Hildreth (c Foakes b Curran 60)

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 107-3

That's a soft dismissal for James Hildreth.

The Somerset man batted well to reach 60, but he gets himself caught behind chasing a wide and full delivery from Tom Curran.

  17. At Lord's...

    Middlesex 423 & 178-7 v Derbys 295 (lead by 306)

Derbyshire are getting back into this game thanks to Matt Critchley and Wayne Madsen, who have removed Max Holden, Robbie White and James Fuller between them in 1.4 overs.

It's getting pretty dark and windy here but Derbyshire will want to stay in the field for as long as possible.

  18. Restart at Taunton

    Surrey 485 v Somerset 146 & 101-2

Apparently the light has momentarily improved at Taunton, so the players are back out.

I'd be surprised if they get through even half of the 28 overs left to be bowled, but they're going to give it a go.

  19. Bears lead building

    Sussex 343-9 v Warwks 440 & 126-0 (lead by 223)

Danny Briggs is getting a fair bit of turn but it's slow turn and Rhodes has loads of time to defend.

Ooh! This ball keeps freakishly low!

Rhodes jabs the ball down with a thick inside edge and the ball scuttles through mid wicket for one.

At the other end Jordan drifts into the pads and the openers tap him away for easy singles.

  20. The latest at Lord's...

    Middlesex 423 & 163-5 v Derbys 295 (lead by 284)

James Fuller has been pushed up the order and is going quite nicely (at nearly five an over) with Max Holden as the hosts build up a handy lead against Derbyshire.

It's trial by spin at both ends now, with Matt Critchley and Wayne Madsen operating in tandem.

Madsen's just made a breakthrough as well, the ball not turning and instead sliding onto Max Holden's off stump.
