  1. Goodbye!

And with that, we're going to leave you for the day.

You can read about today's play in Stephan Shemlit's match report here and the Test Match Special podcast will be ready and waiting very shortly.

We'll be back from 10:30 BST tomorrow for day three. In a bit!

There's nothing wrong with Jos Buttler's technique. He's not Geoffrey Boycott, but who wants to be Geoffrey Boycott?

He doesn't swipe away at the seamers. He's waited for the ball that goes straighter and put it away into the leg side, he's played some pull shots.

I sit and watch Jos Buttler and think he will make the right decisions. He knew he had to be not out tonight. I don't ever think he'll panic and play on emotion, he's very level.

  3. Post update

England finished the day with a 128-run lead, and Jos Buttler intriguingly poised on 34 not out.

    Same again tomorrow...?

Sam Curran can bat, he's got a confident aura about him, his body language was that of someone who has played 50 Tests. I hope I'm not putting him under pressure but I see a top six England Test match batsman straight away.

It's his aura and his bat shape, it comes down straight. The pull shot and that one down the ground, those are shots you look for in quality batsmen.

That's the first time I've seen him live - I've seen video highlights from county cricket. But here I could see his alignment and his head position - he didn't chase the ball. I can see why England have gone for him. His bowling was a bit disappointing but his batting looks class.

  5. Post update

Not a bad birthday eve for Sam Curran, either, who will turn 20 tomorrow.

That drop of Jos Buttler was key. If Hasan Ali had taken that, Pakistan could be looking at a deficit of just 80 or 90. Now they'll be 150 behind at least and this could be over tomorrow.

England will be bowling for victory, with their tails up. James Anderson and Stuart Broad will bowl the same length they bowled on day one and it will nip around.

  7. Post update

Meanwhile, Jos Buttler's return to Test cricket is working out rather alright for him.

It's been impressive again from England, they've all dug in and looked to be strong in the mind. You can see they're concentrating and talking out in the middle.

Pakistan were a bit lax at the start. They're inexperienced and it showed for the first 30 minutes with a few boundaries conceded. Then they got it right but by that time England had settled their nerves.

The second new ball was seaming both ways but England fought it out. You look at the England dismissals today and most of them got good balls, unlike at Lord's last week.

  9. Post update

The disappointment for England will be that no-one has gone on and made those starts count.

Despite the rain, that's been a thoroughly enjoyable day's play.

Dom Bess, in particular, impressed with the bat once again.

Andrew: Not many men can say they spent their last day as a teenager batting in a Test match. Well done Sam Curran.

With the overcast conditions and humidity I thought there would be a bit of nip for England's batsmen to overcome but Dom Bess and Joe Root calmed it down at the start.

Pakistan bowled with heart and got a bit of nibble but just haven't got the breakthroughs they needed.

  13. Post update

No England batsman has passed fifty yet, but Jos Buttler will come back out tomorrow on 32, and Sam Curran looks as though he can offer some excellent company with the bat.

    Jos Buttler and Sam Curran
  14. Close of play - Eng 302-7

    Lead by 128

Solid defence from Sam Curran, and that, folks, is your lot from Headingley.

Sam Curran, on 16, gets a big pat on the back from Jos Buttler as they depart. Another very good day for England.

  15. Eng 302-7

    And again! Sam Curran!

This time it's full from the bowler, and Curran balances himself and pushes the ball straight down the field for another lovely boundary.

  16. Eng 298-7

    Hello, that'll be four!

Short from Hasan Ali, but not short enough to trouble Sam Curran, and he spins on his heels to launch the ball through square and away to the boundary.

  17. Post update

Time for the final over of the day, and it'll be Hasan Ali to bowl it.

Fair play to Abbas, he's still getting the ball to nip off the surface late in the day.
