  1. Goodbye...

What a day we have had. Comical run-outs, Dhawan dazzling, Kohli playing a skipper's knock. This contest was all but over after the first innings.

South Africa are out of the tournament, India will almost certainly face Bangladesh in the semis at Edgbaston on Thursday. You can watch highlights from today's game on BBC Two at 23:00 BST.

Join us on Monday for Sri Lanka v Pakistan - the winner will probably England in Cardiff on Wednesday.

    Enjoy your evening, goodbye.

  2. How's stat?!

    Andy Zaltzman

    BBC Test Match Special statistician

This was India's joint heaviest win over South Africa in terms of wickets - and only the fifth time since 2003 that South Africa have lost by eight wickets or more.

  3. 'The run-outs cost us highly'

South Africa captain AB de Villiers: "It's not an ideal way to finish the tournament. It's disappointing, but credit to them - great intensity in the field and they didn't miss the mark. They put a lot of pressure on us.

"We got something nice going until the run-outs which cost us highly today. We just came unstuck against a better team."

South Africa scored only three boundaries in the first 10 overs - it was like Amla and De Kock were facing Walsh and Ambrose. The bowling was disciplined but they refused to take some risks. They had to make a statement.

  5. 'The guys really stepped up'

India captain Virat Kohli: "It was a good toss to win; the wicket didn't change too much. Our bowlers bowled really well and the fielders backed it up. It was a complete performance in the field - we grabbed the chances that came our way.

"It's always good to get AB out early - that was a good breakthrough for us. We wanted to step up in the field, and the guys really stepped up with their intensity.

"It's important for someone to bat until the end and I was able to do that. Shikhar's intent was outstanding. This the best game we have played so far."

  6. 'Experience helps me stay calm'

Shikhar Dhawan, who made 78 off 83 balls, on Test Match Special: "We bowled really nicely and got them out for a low score. Hats off to the fielders too.

"I was playing with calmness - it was important today to build a partnership. I have been playing one-day internationals for years now so that experience helps me stay calm."

On the semi-final: "We are going to keep the intensity high and dominate the game."

It was like something you see in the under-11s. It was comic and it was sad - it was really pathetic.

It was criminal from AB de Villiers and David Miller, when you think about their ability to take the game away from the opposition. They will be absolutely livid with themselves, especially to get run out.

    Phil Tufnell

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

It was a sorry batting performance from South Africa - and there were probably a few sorrys in the dressing room after those run-outs.

Kevin Rose: AB is a true legend of the one-day game, but a captain he is not... Bring back Faf. Sadly, though, that may not cure the chokes.

When India won the toss and decided to chase, the probability of them winning was slightly more in their favour. But South Africa didn't turn up whatsoever with the bat. They got off to a solid start - people could say it was too slow - but they were never able to get away. They fell away quite considerably. India were probably thinking, presents coming early.

  12. Post update

Man of the match Jasprit Bumrah, who took 2-28: "I'm happy with any role that's given to me by the team. I'm happy to bowl with the new ball and we contained at the start.

"The ball isn't swinging too much, so I wanted to bowl a hard length. All the bowlers chipped in.

"It was a good toss to win. Chasing has been easier. The wickets are not helping the fast bowlers."

Complete and utter domination from India. Having lost to Sri Lanka, this was a good time to come back and smash South Africa to pieces.

  14. India beat South Africa by eight wickets

    India 193-2 (38 overs)

No messing about. Six from Yuvraj.

South Africa are out and India join England and Bangladesh in the semis.

  15. India 183-2

    Target 192

Short and quick from Tahir, Kohli opens his body, rocks back and swats it to the boundary. South Africa going through the motions, India just moments away from a win. They have bossed this.

Kohli has played Tahir to perfection today. Judge for yourself...

  16. How's stat?!

    Andy Zaltzman

    BBC Test Match Special statistician

This is the slowest 50-plus score of Virat Kohli's career. He scored at a strike rate of 71.5 - 68 off 95 balls - against Sri Lanka in Harare in 2010.

  17. India 176-2

    Kohli 70, Yuvraj 12

Are India going to gently pace over the line or are we going to see some big hits? Yuvraj and Kohli don't want this to end just yet, they're having too much fun. Just three from JP Duminy's over. Lap it up, lads.

  18. Not out

    India 172-2

Nope, I'm not wrong. Replays show it hit the bat first so Yuvraj remains. Couldn't even tell you if it was going on to hit. Doesn't matter, 19 more needed.
