  1. See you tomorrow

That is all from us for today. We'll be back again tomorrow at 4:45am, so get your alarm set.

    I'll see thee.

  2. I thought he would have blazed it

    Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on Test Match Special

I thought he (Ben Duckett) would have come out today and blazed it, I thought Cook may have calmed him down after a couple of the early runs.

It's a difficult one, if he wants to go out and play positively on these wickets he's going to struggle.

Duckett will feel incredibly frustrated with how it went tonight - you look at Haseeb Hameed and wonder if it was the right decision.

  3. Bancroft to re-join Gloucestershire

    Cameron Bancroft

A bit of county news for you... Gloucestershire have re-signed batsman Cameron Bancroft for the 2017 season. The Australian will play across all formats. Full story here.

  4. Incredibly frustrated

    Ebony Rainford-Brent

    Mehedi Hassan

A couple of those decisions like the reviews against Moeen Ali and caught Bairstow - if they had got that right they could have been much further ahead.

Bangladesh will feel they've done a great job of course Mehedi coming in was unbelievable but equally I think they will feel incredibly frustrated that they aren't further ahead tonight.

  5. It's swung in to England's favour

    Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on Test Match Special

    Chis Woakes

I think it's just swung in England;'s favour looking at the last two overs. If they can sneak up to that 300 with Woakes and Rashid hanging around and doing well.

Bangladesh will look at a couple of the decisions, especially the reviews and feel frustrated. I think they gave a bit away and England will go to bed tonight knowing they can move in to a positive position tomorrow.

  6. Moeen Ali the standout

    Ebony Rainford-Brent

Ex-England batter on Test Match Special

I think Ali's been the standout today. There was a kerfuffle because he had 5 reviews, which was incredible.

He adjusted and started to get some fluidity and dug in. I like in particular when he took the game to them and became a bit more aggressive, building that partnership with Bairstow.

You feel now it's a score where if England's bowlers do well they could salvage something and maybe even take it to them later in the week.

  7. 'A tough pitch to bat on'

England's Moeen Ali, who made 68, speaking to Sky Sports: "Bangladesh had a great start and the wicket was spinning a bit so it's not a bad total in the end, although we need a few more tomorrow.

"We didn't expect it to spin as much as it has done. It spun with the new ball and has been a very tough pitch."

Stuart Broad is a fantastic bowler with more than 350 Test wickets, but I am beginning to wonder what use he will be on this pitch. England could probably have done with Zafar Ansari instead, to add more spin variation.

Mark J: I'd love to see Batty aged 38/9 bowl out most of the Bangladesh side and show that late 30s blokes can still do it.

I wonder how England will use their spinners. I'm concerned that previous subcontinent teams have attacked Moeen and Rashid. England need to have a clear plan. That's why I think Batty is a good selection. He'll be very solid.

  11. Close of play

    Eng 258-7

Bangladesh at the close of play

Kamrul, like a budget Lasith Malinga, groans as Rashid leaves one that passes just a few centimeters past the off stump. It is the closest the home side get to a late breakthrough. That is your lot for a fascinating first day in Chittagong.

  12. Eng 254-7

    Chris Woakes

Mehedi isn't done yet. He is given one last chance to do some more damage. Rashid and Woakes dig in to ensure this isn't the case. And there is still time for another over.

    Jonathan Agnew

    BBC Test Match Special

It's been a fascinating first day's cricket. It's always better when the ball is doing a bit, making the batsmen work. When there's an element of not knowing what a good score is, it's much more interesting.

Tom Shaw, London: I don't mind England throwing the ball or the place in the side to Batty, but wasnt the 'no toss' in the Championship supposed to bring on young spinners? Jack Leach unlucky for me.

  15. Eng 253-7

    Rashid 2, Woakes 35

Mehedi's fine work for the day is done. Kamrul is brought back for a final punt. He's only bowled six overs prior to this so he should have something in the tank. Woakes - his eyes bright at the prospect of some seam - has a swing and is fortunate not to get a nick before driving the next ball for four to bring up the England 250. The 90 overs are done, but thanks to all the spin we can squeeze in one more.

  16. Eng 247-7

    Shakib Al-Hassan

If you've seen one Shakib ball that over you've seen them all. Six balls tossed up, six balls patted back. A proper block-a-thon.

This is a spin contest for me; who will make the most of the conditions. Gareth Batty might be a wily old bowler on this and if England can reach 300, it becomes a different game. That feels like a really good score.

  18. Eng 247-7

    Woakes 31, Rashid 1

    Chris Woakes

Woakes is doing a fine job for England here. He is solid in defence and occasionally working the ball around for a single or two.

  19. Eng 244-7

Maiden from Shakib. Move along. Nothing to see here.
