Leicester Riders needed a basket from former Eagle Andrew Thomson with three seconds remaining to snatch victory as overtime loomed.
That last minute drama means that Leicester leapfrog Newcastle to head in to top place of the BBL table.

What are the BBL and the WBBL?
The BBL has been the pinnacle of men's basketball in Britain, since its initiation in 1987.
The WBBL was founded more recently in 2014, in an attempt to create a high-quality professional league for women.
The Leicester Riders are the current holders of the men's league, while Nottingham romped to victory in the women's competition last season.
You can watch reigning men's champions, the Riders, in action straight after the WBBL fixture between Northumbria and Caledonia.

Basketball originated, developed and flourished in the United States - but the British game is enjoying a recent surge in attendances at venues across the country.
The BBC are set to broadcast 32 live British Basketball League (BBL) matches this season, including eight games from the British Basketball Women's League (WBBL).
The first of those games to be screened live on the Red Button and BBC Sport website is the WBBL tie between Northumbria and Caledonia.
Following the WBBL fixture, we will bring you live action from the BBL clash between the Eagles and the Riders at Sport Central.
