  1. Goodbye from here, and hello to SUFC v MUFC Rewind

In a short while we will have one heck a 'rewind' - the first game of the Premier League: Sheffield United v Manchester United.

Check at the top of the BBC Football site from about 14:00 BST.

  2. And finally...

    15 August 1992: Southampton 0-0 Tottenham

Even the likes of Saints' Matt Le Tissier and Spurs' Darren Anderton couldn't provide goals in what wasn't a Dell classic.

Tottenham finished eighth and Southampton just about avoided the drop.

  3. He won't have watched Brian Deane's goal

Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy was just shy of minus two years old when the Premier League started.

  4. He scored the first Premier League goal

15 August 1992: Sheffield United 2-1 Man Utd

    Brian Deane

The somewhat cliched "that's a good quiz question" is no doubt going through some of your minds.

The answer is Brian Deane and the question is, "who scored the first ever Premier League goal?"

The former England striker headed in the opener and smashed home from the spot before Mark Hughes fired in low to pull one back for United.

However, the eventual champions had to settle for an opening day defeat.

  6. Horne saves the day for Toffees

    15 August 1992: Everton 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

For those of you who are astonished easily, yes, Sheffield Wednesday used to play in the Premier League.

And Nigel Pearson - him of "ostrich" fame and management - scored the opener for the Owls, after a mistake by Neville "Big Nev" Southall, before Wales stalwart Barry Horne smashed in the equaliser.

The Owls were wearing a horrendous yellow with black stripes kit.

  8. Villa held by Ipswich

    15 August 1992: Ipswich 1-1 Aston Villa

    Dalian Atkinson

Gavin Johnson, whose 22-year footballing career began at Ipswich in 1989 and finished at Needham Market, cracked in the opening goal for the Tractor Boys.

But with six minutes remaining the late great Dalian Atkinson slotted in the equaliser for Villa.

Ron Atkinson's side went on to finish second in the table.

  11. 'Manu' Vatuvei: Which team should I support?

    Manu Vatuvei

Manchester United have offered new Salford Red Devils player Manu Vatuvei some advice after he asked on Twitter which football team he should follow.

That settles it. He plays for the Red Devils too - so that should have been enough guidance.

  12. 'Shearer! Shearer!'

    15 August 1992: Crystal Palace 3-3 Blackburn

    .
Image caption: Spot the future England manager...

What a match this was - and the world soon realised why Rovers spent an English transfer record-breaking £3.6m for Southampton striker Alan Shearer.

Shearer scored two cracking goals, including a dipping volley over the head of Nigel Martyn.

The Eagles - the team of the 70s, 80s and 90s apparently - salvaged a draw thanks to Simon Osborn's 90th minute effort.

  13. PL to close window before start of next season?

Gylfi Sigurdsson (left) and Philippe Coutinho

Premier League clubs are discussing plans to close the summer transfer window before the start of the season next year.

The current window, in line with many other European leagues, closes on 31 August, almost three weeks after the start of the Premier League season.

A vote is set to take place at the next shareholders meeting on 7 September.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Swansea boss Paul Clement are among those to have called for a change.

    More here.

  14. Bergkamp strike: Your favourite PL goal

Now then. You lot out there voted this wonderful effort as the best ever goal scored in the Premier League.

This is, of course, Dennis Bergkamp, in his pomp, producing this cracker against Newcastle in 2002.

We still don't know how he managed the flick.

  15. Pick your greatest all-time Premier League XI

It's time to pick your all-time Premier League XI.

Who's going to make your team?

Steve Bruce ahead of Nemanja Vidic?

    Ian Wright or Alan Shearer?

  16. Sky Blues flying high

    15 August 1992: Coventry 2-1 Middlesborugh

With Bobby Gould at the helm, perennial 'top-flighters' Coventry, in their tight Sky Blues kit, strode out on to the Highfield Road pitch and recorded an opening-day win over Boro.

John Williams and David Smith gave the home side a 2-0 lead before striker Paul Wilkinson hit back in the 63rd minute.

Lennie Lawrence's side were sadly relegated, but City survived the drop.

  17. Newcastle injury news

    Newcastle United

    Florian Lejeune

Bad luck Newcastle fans - here's the latest injury news concerning your full-backs.

Both new signing Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett are out for a 'number of weeks'.

They suffered injuries during the Magpies' 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham on Sunday.
