A floating swimming pool is to be the centrepiece of Liverpool's bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The 50m pool structure, with seating for 5,000 spectators, would be built on the water near Albert Dock.

The bid, which also includes events at both Everton's existing and proposed new stadiums, would see some events held in Greater Manchester.

Liverpool faces competition from Birmingham to be England's official bid for the games.

The pool, which would be fixed to the walls of a dock but rest on the water, would become a public lido after the games.

Alexander Wheeldon‏: There is only one place and one home for Ronaldo. Back to the theatre of dreams. We've been here before haven't we?

Daphne De Leener: Honestly, Cristiano should head to AC Milan, he would complement their new signings.

Geoff Naylor: CR7 should come to Forest. If there's a club that needs him to get back where they belong then it's the 'Tricky Trees'.

Gatland running out of time - Steve Hansen

New Zealand coach Steve Hansen says British and Irish Lions counterpart Warren Gatland is running out of time to change his style ahead of the first Test on 24 June.

Hansen watched his side defeat Tonga 78-0 before the Lions face the Maori All Blacks at Rotorua on Saturday.

"He (Gatland) keeps telling us he's got something up his sleeve other than his arms," said Hansen.

"We'll wait and see, but he's starting to run out of time to get practice."

Gatland's Lions have won two and lost two of their opening four games in New Zealand.

  11. More on Ronaldo...

    Football

Re-watch Ronaldo's first hat trick for Manchester United:

Ronaldo, who joined Real from Manchester United for £80m in 2009, signed a five-year deal with the European champions in November 2016.

China would be one potential destination but the Portuguese forward's advisers would prefer for him to stay in Europe, most likely either moving to Paris St-Germain or returning to the Premier League.

Ronaldo, who has helped Real win the Champions League three times and La Liga twice, is accused of evading tax to the value of 14.7m euros (£13m; $16m) between 2011 and 2014.

Real Madrid have released a statement saying they had "full confidence" in their player, and that they were convinced he would prove his innocence.

  12. When your wig tape lets you down...

Nigerian athlete Blessing Okagbare had a hair-raising moment during a track and field meeting in Oslo on Thursday, when her wig fell off as she jumped.

Whether the mishap played its part in her finishing seventh is unclear, but the 28-year-old laughed it off on her Instagram account...

"When you talk about something for so long and it eventually happened 😂😂🤣😂😂😀😂😀.. Oh well, it is what it is then... heads up..!"

  13. EFL apologises after draw errors

    League Cup first round draw

It has not been a great day for the EFL after technical and human errors caused confusion during the draw of the first round of the League Cup.

A statement said: "The EFL would like to apologise for a number of third party technical issues that affected coverage of this afternoon’s Carabao Cup Round One draw in Bangkok.

"There were inaccuracies – as a result of human error - in the live graphics output that resulted in confusion and incorrect ties being displayed on screen. In addition, some users did experience difficulties in accessing the stream on certain external platforms. Both issues are currently under investigation.

"The EFL can confirm that the draw was not compromised in any way and all clubs have received confirmation of their round one ties."

Spanish prosecutors have accused Ronaldo, 32, of defrauding the authorities of millions of euros in tax.

"He's very sad and really upset."

Ronaldo, who joined Real from Manchester United for £80m in 2009, signed a five-year deal with Real in November 2016.

  17. More draw chaos

    League Cup first round draw

Just when we think we are done from the League Cup first round draw, more errors emerge from the live stream on the sponsors' Facebook page.

So after no sound, the video freezing, Charlton appearing twice, Oxford not appearing at all, we now have another graphic error.

Forest Green have tweeted a screenshot of the draw, but the sixth and eighth matches are wrong.

It should be Wolves v Yeovil Town and MK Dons v Forest Green.
