    School Report News Day 2017

    BBC School Report

By Chloe, Jessica, Holly and Erika (St Cuthbert's Catholic High School)

After the four students from Wyvern Academy did their sports bulletin on BBC News, they were interviewed by us.

Jonathan, a Year 11 student, was one of the presenters at 1330 GMT along with Joshua, also Year 11. Whilst they were on air, Ryan and Peter, Year 10 students, helped produce the bulletin.

Jonathan told us afterwards that it was a once in a lifetime experience.

“I felt nervous as it was going out to millions of people, not like the one at our school,” he said. “But it was less nerve racking with Joshua being there too.”

    BBC Sport at Cheltenham

Ireland have enjoyed six winners in a day at the Cheltenham Festival before, but never seven.

The stats are technically against them - with just four of the 24 runners in the concluding Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Chase (17:30 GMT) trained across the Irish Sea.

But they include the two favourites...

The Irish contenders, and current odds, are:

    • Squouateur 9-2
    • Mall Dini 6-1
    • Venitien De Mai 28-1
    • Balbir Du Mathan 50-1
  14. Sheff Weds boss fined

    .

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal has admitted an improper conduct charge and fined £2,000 by the Football Association.

The Portuguese was sent to the stands in his side's  defeat by Aston Villa  on Saturday after complaining about defender Vincent Sasso's red card.

  15. Robins boss Gary Johnson has heart surgery

  16. 'Karanka lost the dressing room'

BBC Tees Sport journalist Rob Law on the sacking of Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka: "Karanka will always be remembered as the manager who got Boro promotion back to the Premier League after seven years in the wilderness.

However in the end it seems Karanka had lost the dressing room, as well as large section of the supporters, and this time the rifts were too big to mend.

    .
  17. Rochdale's Thompson diagnosed with cancer

    .

Rochdale midfielder Joe Thompson has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time.

The 28-year-old  overcame  nodular sclerosing Hodgkin lymphoma in 2014, while at Tranmere, after a six-month course of chemotherapy.

He returned to Rochdale, where he began his career in their youth system, from Carlisle at the start of the season.

"I will fight this life hurdle with the same belief, courage and desire as my previous battle,"  said Thompson.

  18. Tizzard calm ahead of Gold Cup

    Frank Keogh

    BBC Sport at Cheltenham

A few eyebrows were raised earlier when it was revealed trainer Colin Tizzard would hold a press conference at Cheltenham on Thursday. Was there to be a big announcement?

Don't panic. He was just updating the media on preparations for his contenders for Friday's Gold Cup - Cue Card and Native River.

Cue Card, at 11, is bidding to become the oldest winner for 48 years but the trainer is not worried about the stats.

"I really feel he's got as big a chance as he's ever had. Age hasn't caught up with him yet. We are all proud of him," he told the BBC.

  19. Ireland's Murray out of England game

    Six Nations

    Conor Murray

Injured Conor Murray has been ruled out of Ireland's Six Nations game against England on Saturday while Jared Payne and Iain Henderson come into Joe Schmidt's side.

Scrum-half Murray, who sustained a shoulder injury in the  22-9 defeat by Wales,  is replaced by Kieran Marmion.

With Rob Kearney ruled out by a knee injury, Ulster's Payne will start at full-back in Dublin, in a match that kicks-off at 17:00 GMT.

Payne's Ulster team-mate Henderson replaces Devin Toner in the second row, as the Leinster man drops to the bench.

Ireland are second in the table going into the final weekend of fixtures and can prevent champions England from securing a second consecutive Grand Slam.

  20. Horse Racing

    16:50 Novices' Hurdle

Confirmation that Barra was second, with Dusky Legend in third.
