  10. Management can be a lonely place - Sarll

    Darren Sarll

Stevenage manager Darren Sarll says he has experienced loneliness during his first year in football management.

Sarll, 34, replaced Teddy Sheringham at Boro, and the club are now seven points off the League Two play-off places.

"Experienced managers say to you try to switch off and have your family life," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I don't know if it's my first year and I'm young, but for me that's impossible. It's very lonely, especially in defeat."

He continued: "I just want to hide away and get my head around what is next. I don't want to hide away and sulk or melt in the corner, but I want to refocus.

"But that means isolating your family and pushing them to one side in the times when you should be really with them."

  18. Management beckons for Lampard - Wilkins

Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has been paying tribute to the retiring Blues legend Frank Lampard.

“Frank’s been exceptional and ranks among the best that have ever played for Chelsea with his goals, his creativity, his work ethic. He’s everything anyone wants as a coach or manager," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

“He could have still played for Chelsea, but he chose to go to the MLS.

“He went there and enjoyed himself. He had a sticky couple of months but all of a sudden he scores goal after goal after goal. He has decided to retire, but he will make a success of his life.

“I would love him to go (and manage) a Premier League side and not anywhere else. He knows what the Premier League is all about. Go in where you know – he knows top quality international footballers. Give him the opportunity to do his stuff.”
