  7. Woods inspired by Federer exploits

    Golf

Golfer Tiger Woods says he will take inspiration from tennis player Roger Federer's victory at the Australian Open.

"He rehabbed properly and you can tell how fast he's moving," said Woods. "He's shortened up points, changed his strategy and as you get older, you change your game and you do things slightly differently.

"Am I going to do that? Yeah, I'm not going to be hitting balls like some of these guys 340 (yards) out there. I watched Dustin (Johnson) last week when it was cold, wet and damp and he carried it 335.

"Jason (Day) and I just looked at each other going, 'We don't have that' so you do it differently. If you look at the list of guys who shot below 60, you realise Jim Furyk's on there twice. He averages 270 off the tee, shot two rounds under 60. So it can be done in different ways."

    Football

Liverpool have issued a statement after forward Roberto Firmino was fined £20,000 and banned from driving for a year after admitting drink driving at Liverpool Magistrates' Court.

"The player has been disciplined by the club for his actions and reminded of his responsibilities for the present and future," said Liverpool FC's statement.

"The nature of this action will remain private, however it does not impact on his availability for selection for matches.

"The club considers this to be an isolated incident and a rare lapse in judgement and professionalism. We will however work with the player to further educate him on the dangers associated with drink driving specifically."
