  2. Retiring Hopkins lauded by De la Hoya


    Oscar de la Hoya and Bernard Hopkins

    Bernard Hopkins has been hailed as a "genius" by fellow great Oscar de la Hoya, ahead of the 51-year-old's final bout in Los Angeles on Saturday.

    Former two-weight world champion Hopkins takes on fellow American Joe Smith Jr in his 65th pro contest.

    Hopkins defended his world middleweight title 20 times and is the oldest man to hold a world title, aged 49.

    "We won't see a fighter like Bernard any time soon," De la Hoya, Hopkins' promoter, told BBC Radio 5 live.

    Hopkins, who made his pro debut before the 27-year-old Joe Smith Jr was born, has a record of 55 wins (32 KOs), seven defeats, and two draws. He has never been beaten inside the distance.

  3. Chinese football is a danger - Conte

    Crystal Palace v Chelsea (Saturday, 12:30 GMT)


    The huge amounts of cash being spent on players by Chinese clubs is a "danger for all teams in the world", according to Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

    He's warned it could be "difficult" managing players on such high salaries, after midfielder Oscar was linked to a £60m move to Shanghai SIPG which could lead to him earning an eye-watering £400,000-a-week.

  4. Mignolet gets nod over Karius for derby

    Everton v Liverpool (Monday, 20:00 GMT)

    Simon Mignolet will continue in goal for Liverpool during Monday's Merseyside derby, after replacing Loris Karius for the Reds' win over Middlesbrough.

    Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp saidMignolet is "in brilliant shape" and praised him for a "really good game" against Boro.

  5. Cricket Australia defends pregnancy policy


    Cricket Australia has defended its policy of asking women players to declare if they are pregnant when they sign a central contract.

    CA's chief executive James Sutherland says the organisation has not broken any anti-discrimination rules and the policy is a "health and safety issue".

    He added: "We are fully aware of our obligations as an employer."

    The England & Wales Cricket Board says it does not have a "notification of pregnancy" rule for women cricketers.

  6. Canaries host Terriers

    Norwich v Huddersfield (19:45 GMT)

    There's Championship football on the agenda tonight, as Norwich City host Huddersfield.

    Huddersfield can jump up to third with a win, but the Canaries could replace the visitors in fourth with a victory.

  7. Italian match finally finishes - three months after it began


    How's this for a weather delay?

    A Serie A match between Genoa and Fiorentina has finished more than three months after it originally started.

    The game between the two Italian sides originally took place on 11 September but was abandoned after 28 minutes because of a severe hailstorm.

    Fiorentina could not play the remainder of the fixture until this month because of their Europa League commitments - but they probably weren't too happy when it did get finally get rescheduled as Genoa won 1-0.

    Chelsea have made Paris St-Germain's Marco Verratti a top target in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

    PSG are expected to want more than £30m for the 24-year-old midfielder.

  12. 'If I get punished then it's deserved'


    Joe Root may be a baby-faced assassin - but the England batsman says it's time he grew up a bit.

    Root was adjudged caught behind on review after playing a sweep shot against spinner Ravindra Jadeja on day one of the fifth Test against India.

    He was seen talking to himself as he departed and aimed a kick at the boundary rope on his way off the field.

    "There was frustration there," said Root. "If I get punished then I'm sure it's deserved."

    Five-year-old Sunderland supporter Bradley Lowery, who has terminal cancer, scored a penalty for his beloved Black Cats in the warm-up against Chelsea on Tuesday night.

    There is a growing social media campaign with players, media and fans calling for it to be the official Premier League goal of the month.

  15. Living with euthanasia: Marieke Vervoort's story

    Disability Sport

    Belgian Paralympian Marieke Vervoort won gold and silver medals at London 2012, picking up silver and bronze at Rio 2016.

    The 37-year-old has a degenerative spinal disease, and signed papers for euthanasia, which is legal in Belgium, in 2008.

    Having retired from wheelchair racing after Rio, she now says she wants to enjoy every moment she can, before taking the ultimate decision when her life quality deteriorates.

  19. ‘Progress’ on David Beckham MLS bid



    David Beckham’s plans to set up a football team in Miami are “making progress” as Major League Soccer has unveiled plans to expand the league to 28 teams.

    The competition will feature 22 teams when the new season begins in March and the Los Angeles Football Club will become the 23rd team in 2018.

    Although they have not confirmed a possible entry date for the former England captain’s franchise, MLS commissioner Don Garber said: “We are very focused on Miami being our 24th team.”

    Beckham has been trying to set up an MLS team since 2013.
