    Arsenal target Shkodran Mustafi is available for half of his 50m euros release clause, according to the Daily Mirror.

    However Arsenal are yet to bid for the Valencia defender having inquired about his availability earlier in the week.

    Manchester City are in the process of arranging a closed doors friendly with Scottish Premiership team St Johnstone.

    The game is yet to be confirmed but is proposed to take place on Wednesday, 3 August at the City Football Academy.

    City lost 25% of their competitive pre-season matches on Monday, when their encounter with Manchester United in Beijing was cancelled due to pitch problems.

    Coach Pep Guardiola was keen to fill the gap and asked St Johnstone to provide the opposition.

    City lost to Bayern Munich last week, in addition to today's penalty shoot out win over Borussia Dortmund in Shenzhen. Their only other game is against Arsenal in Gothenburg on 7 August.

  7. Oxford loan West Brom's Roberts


    West Brom youngster Tyler Roberts has joined Oxford United on loan until January.

    The forward made his Premier League debut against Liverpool on the final day of last season.

    James Willson: I'd ban phrases like "that would have been a great goal if it had gone in". Goals aren't awarded for being great!

    Len Betts: I'd ban "saved by the woodwork" as goalpost do not save, you just missed and they have not been wood for years.

    Tom Heath: I'd ban the phrase Stone Waller for a penalty. What's a stone wall or a person that builds one got to do with an obvious decision.

  9. Mixed fortunes for big-name trio

    Golf: US PGA Championship update

    Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day, three of the biggest names in golf, are all in the same three-ball but have had mixed fortunes so far on day one of the US PGA Championship in New Jersey.

    They began at the 10th and Mickelson started off with a bogey and the 2005 champion then dropped further shots on the 16th and 18th to reach the turn three over.

    McIlroy is on the same score after three bogeys in four holes from the 13th to 16th, but Day has had a better time, and is currently on one under after nine.

    Andy King is poised to sign a new contract at Leicester CIty, according to the Daily Mail.

    King is the Premier League champions' longest-serving current player and will extend his deal to keep him at the club until 2020.

  12. Russia name flag bearer

    Russia Rio 2016

    Men's volleyball captain Sergei Tetyukhin will carry the Russian flag during the opening ceremony of the Rio Games, twice Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbayeva has said.

    Isinbayeva is will not be in Rio after the IAAF banned all Russian track and field athletes.

    Tetyukhin will be, however, with the 40-year-old competing in his sixth Olympics, looking to add to his four medals.

    Liverpool are tracking Lyon's teenage full-back Jordy Gaspar, says French newspaper L'Equipe.

    Brad Smith's departure to Bournemouth leaves Jurgen Klopp with Alberto Moreno as his only left-back option with Gaspar, 19, a possible replacement.

    The youngster is yet to make an appearance for the Lyon first team.

  14. Fowler up to second after bad start

    Golf: US PGA Championship update

    Rickie Fowler started badly with a bogey on his first hole of the day - the 10th - but the American has recovered in style to move up to joint second on day one of the US PGA  Championship.

    He has never won a major, but he is now on three under following birdies at the 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th.

    American Jimmy Walker is now the leader on five under through 11. England's Ross Fisher is on two under, with countrymen Paul Casey, Lee Westwood and Chris Wood on one under - the same score as world number one Jason Day.

    South Korean Mirim Lee has charged up the leaderboard to overtake Ariya Jutanugarn on eight under par, after five consecutive birdies. 

    China’s Shanshan Feng (-6) has edged ahead of Stacey Lewis (-5). Both have now completed their first round.

  16. Charley Hull drops a shot

    A bogey at the eighth hole took Charley Hull to one under par, where she currently remains after completing the first half of her round.

    Hull spoke of the added pressure of playing on her home course at Woburn in the build-up to the event, could that be affecting her?

  17. Burnley's Ginnelly joins Walsall on loan

    Burnley winger Josh Ginnelly has today joined Walsall on loan.

    Ginnelly scored his first senior goal for the Clarets on Tuesday during pre-season and joins the League One club until January.

    "He arrived a little bit overweight. He is much better now. He fights a lot in these weeks. 

    "There is still a little bit of weight. Last season he was injured in the season. We want to avoid that. We want the players on the pitch to be fit.

    We told you yesterday that Manchester City are interested in signing Everton defender John Stones.

    A deal is yet to be agreed but it is understood the club's are not far apart in their valuations.

    However, to add further complications, Everton have confirmed Stones is part of their squad that has travelled to Germany for their pre-season tour.
