Edinburgh Capitals player-coach Michal Dobron says confidence has been restored after ending a 22-game losing run stretching back to January.

The Murrayfield men beat Braehead Clan on Sunday, winning 3-2 in overtime.

"I told the guys following Saturday's [loss] in Belfast if they played like that, they would win," said Dobron.

"This was good for our confidence and now we can only get better and better. Winning in overtime is nice for the fans. It could have gone either way."

The Caps began their weekend in Northern Ireland with netminder Travis Fullerton and fellow new signing Jaroslav Hertl.

Mike Forney scored twice for Belfast Giants in the second period, Jared Staal replying for Edinburgh.

Steve Saviano's empty net finish at the end confirmed a 3-1 win and two Challenge Cup points for Belfast.

Edinburgh returned home on Sunday to meet Braehead, who led through Matt Keith.

Matt Tipoff levelled before Sean Beattie put the Caps in front, only for Scott Pitt to tie the contest, sending it to overtime where Pavel Vorobyov came out on top against Clan goalie Michal Zajkowski.

"I knew Pavel had a 90% chance of scoring in that one-on-one situation," Dobron said.

For Clan, it was another winless weekend after going down 2-1 to Manchester Storm in another below-par league performance.

Keith gave them the lead in the first period, but two from Darian Dzuirzynski sealed a third straight league loss for Ryan Finnerty's side.

Dundee Stars started their weekend with a trip to Kirkcaldy in a Challenge Cup meeting with Fife Flyers, who had won three of their opening four games.

However, Marc LeFebvre's side claimed the points in a 6-3 win, starting with goals from Scott Brannan and Matt White.

Fife hit back through Justin Fox and Chase Schaber before Brett Switzer and Cale Tanaka restored Stars' two-goal cushion.

Shayne Stockton brought the Flyers to within a goal, but Tanaka's second and one from Dundee captain Joey Sides settled the game for the Tayside men.

They could not make it two in two at home to Belfast, despite a valiant comeback in the 5-3 loss.

Derrick Walser and David Rutherford made it 2-0 in the first period, but Felix Antoine Poulin pulled one back, only for Chris Higgins to restore the two-goal lead.

Tanaka and Vinny Scarsella scored to tie the game but two late goals from Blair Riley swung the contest in Belfast's favour.

Fife's fortunes did not improve after Saturday as they were well beaten 6-1 by Cardiff Devils in South Wales.

Scott Hotham, Patrick Bordeleau, Joey Haddad, Patrick Asselin and Joey Martin gave the hosts an unassailable lead before Ryan Dingle fired one back for the Flyers.

Jake Morissette's goal completed Cardiff's win as the Kirkcaldy men contemplated a long journey home.
