Hull Stingrays earned a point in the 5-4 defeat after penalty shots against Fife Flyers in the Elite League.
Fife raced into a 3-0 lead before Rays levelled through Jereme Tendler, Derek Campbell and Dmitry Rodin.
Kurtis Dulle put Stingrays ahead for the first time before Matt Siddall scored his second to force overtime.
A scoreless overtime period led to penalties, with Flyers forward Mike Hamilton the only one successful player in the shoot-out.
Hull coach Sylvain Cloutier told BBC Radio Humberside: "We were lucky to get a point. We got outworked and when you get outworked you don't win hockey games.
"We did great to come back but again gave up a late goal and in the shoot-out it can go either way."
