Methodist College were crowned All-Ireland schoolgirl champions for the first time as they lifted the Kate Russell Cup in Limerick on Friday.

The Ulster champions went through the tournament unbeaten in their four matches and defeated Loreto Kilkenny 4-0 and Alexandra College 3-1.

Crescent Comprehensive had to win by three goals in the final game to deny MCB the title but they won 1-0.

Methody captain Katie Larmour was the tournament's top scorer with six goals.

Larmour also netted the winner in Methody's Ulster Senior Cup win over Sullivan,

"It's a fantastic feeling especially as this is my last year at school although it was really nerve-wracking watching the last match knowing you had no control over the outcome." she said.

"Winning the Ulster Senior Cup for the first time since 1988 was brilliant and,now to be All-Ireland champions is the icing on the cake."
