Steven Bowditch shot a four-under-par 65 to take a two-shot lead into the final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson.
The 31-year-old Australian carded five birdies and a bogey to move to 13 under overall in Texas.
Dustin Johnson recorded the lowest round of the day with a seven under 62 to storm into contention for a 10th PGA Tour title.
The American is part of a group of five players, which includes joint-second round leader Jimmy Walker, on 11 under.
"It was a good day, I played pretty solid," said Bowditch, who is bidding for only his second PGA Tour win.
"I drove it into the fairway most of the time so it's nice to be in this position heading into the final round."
