Ian Poulter heads into the final day of the Crowne Plaza Invitational trailing leader Kevin Na by one stroke.

The Englishman, 39, shot a two-under-par 68 to finish at 10 under on Saturday, halving the advantage Na, 31, had held at the halfway stage in Texas.

Na's fellow American Charley Hoffman, 38, is a further stroke back in third following a four-under 66 at Colonial.

"I'm definitely playing some great golf," Poulter told Sky Sports. "It's about holing putts at the right time."

He missed a seven-foot birdie putt at the 18th hole that would have pulled him level with Na.

"I just need to hole a few more putts and I think I will be there," Poulter added.

Start times on Saturday were advanced to the morning to avoid the worst of afternoon storms, while forecast bad weather on Sunday could see the contest cut short.

Poulter opened his third round with a birdie after sending his approach three feet from the cup at the par-five first, then added another at seven with a 30-foot putt.

He three-putted to double bogey the 10th, before birdies at 11 and 15 grabbed him a share of the lead at 10 under.

Na answered with a 14-foot birdie putt at 17 to reclaim the lead at 11 under and Poulter missed a chance at 18 to leave the American alone at the top.

Poulter has never won a strokeplay event in the United States, while Na's last tournament win was in October 2011.
