World number three Henrik Stenson carded a 67 and is tied for seventh on seven under par.

Defending champion Charl Schwartzel laboured to a 73 and is eight shots off the lead.

"It was a wonderful day for sure," said world number 19 Garcia, who is chasing his first win of the year.

Overnight leader Alex Cejka shot 71 to fall two shots behind, along with Frenchman Alexander Levy and India's Anirban Lahiri, who carded a day's best 64.
