Ballygalget win weather-beaten Down Hurling Final after scoreless second half

Ballygalget won a bizarre Down Senior Hurling Final at Portaferry as they beat Ballycran 0-6 to 0-2 in a game which had no scores in the second half.

Appalling weather conditions made playing hurling virtually impossible as Ballygalget avenged last year's defeat narrow defeat by Ballycran.

Meanwhile, Loup qualified for the Derry SFC decider by beating Ballinascreen 4-9 to 0-10 at Owenbeg.

Ballinderry face holders Slaughtneil in the second semi-final on Sunday

Owenbeg will be the venue for Sunday's second semi-final (15:45 BST).

Thomas Mallon scored Loup's first goal in the first half directly from a 45 and Ballinascreen suffered a further blow before the break as Barry Grant received a straight red card for an apparent strike on an opponent.

Leading 1-4 to 0-6 at the break, Loup increased their advantage and a Jason Rocks goal with 13 minutes left extended their advantage to seven.

Loup's victory was rounded off by further goals from Ciaran Devlin and Paul McVey.

As the club season gathers pace this weekend, Sunday's big games include the Antrim hurling final and Down football decider.

Holders Cushendall renew rivalry with Loughgiel in Sunday's Antrim decider at Ballycastle (15:00 BST).

Kilcoo will aim for a fifth straight Down football title when they face Clonduff on Sunday at Newry (16:15).

On Friday night, Killyclogher beat Dromore 1-9 to 0-11 in the first Tyrone SFC semi-final at Healy Park, with Clonoe taking on Coalisland in the second semi-final on Sunday at Edendork (14:00).
