Tyrone manager Mickey Harte is expected to remain in charge of the Red Hands until at least 2018 after he requested an extension to his contract.

The current deal runs out in 2017 and Harte has met county board members about adding an additional year, according to the Irish News.

Harte's request is set to be ratified at a meeting of the county board management committee on 6 September.

The Errigal Ciaran clubman has guided Tyrone to three All-Ireland titles.

Tyrone won the Ulster crown this year but suffered an All-Ireland quarter-final defeat at the hands of Mayo earlier this month.

The Red Hands also secured the Division Two title in 2016 and will be back in top-flight league action next year.

Harte was appointed as Red Hands boss in 2002, taking over from joint-managers Eugene McKenna and Art McRory.
