Vettel on top in Texas first practice
- From the section Formula 1
Sebastian Vettel sets the pace in the first-ever practice session at Austin's Circuit of the Americas.
The reigning world champion, who is competing in his 100th Grand Prix this weekend, headed McLaren's Lewis Hamilton by 1.418 seconds with title rival Fernando Alonso over two seconds adrift of the Red Bull driver's pace.
Vettel has won four of the last five races and is 10 points ahead of Alonso heading into the penultimate race of the season, meaning he can wrap up a third consecutive championship if he out-scores his Spanish rival by 15 points or more in Sunday's Grand Prix.
