Hamilton upbeat despite washout

Lewis Hamilton believes the lack of running in Friday practice ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix "wasn't a waste of time" as McLaren had a chance to confirm their technical upgrades were working.

Without testing the technical and aerodynamic developments, the 2008 world champion admits there would have been "no real benefit" to running in the wet conditions, revealing he felt good to "get back in the car and back up to speed" after the five-week summer break.

Hamilton lies fourth in the driver's championship with 117 points, 47 behind Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.
