Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez will stay with Sauber in 2012 after the Swiss team decided to take up options to extend their contracts.

"I'm very proud and want to thank the team for keeping their faith in me," said Japanese Kobayashi.

Mexican Perez, impressive in his debut season, said: "I'm now concentrating on finishing 2011 on a high."

Mexican Esteban Gutierrez will also continue his role as the team's reserve driver next season.

Team boss Peter Sauber, who bought his eponymous team back from German car giants BMW in time for the 2010 season, added: "We are very pleased with our drivers.

"Kamui has grown into his role extremely well. He is taking on responsibilities that naturally fall to the more experienced driver in the team.

"We had an option of working with him in 2012 and there was never any doubt we would take it.

"Sergio has achieved more than one could expect from a rookie and after that accident in Monaco he demonstrated that he can handle difficult situations too.

"We had already signed a contract with Sergio that went beyond 2011 and it has paid off."

It has been a mixed season for Sauber's drivers. Both finished in the points at the opening race in Australia only to be disqualified after the race because the car infringed technical regulations relating to the design of the rear wing.

Perez then hit the headlines after his high-speed crash during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix which saw him sidelined for two races.

Sauber are sixth in the team standings with Kobayashi scoring the team's best result, finishing fifth in Monaco.
