Boreham Wood 1-4 Maidenhead United: Substitute keeper Rhys Lovett scores from bench

Maidenhead United's reserve keeper Rhys Lovett made sure the final game of the National League season was an eventful one as he came off the bench to play up front and scored with the last kick of the game.

Lovett said he was "buzzing" after his strike completed an emphatic 4-1 win over Boreham Wood at Meadow Park.

The keeper, 23, came on with four minutes left and was in the right place at the back post to tap home Danilo Orsi-Dadomo's cross in stoppage time.

"I didn't expect to get on, but I took the chance and scored," he said.

Reece Smith gave the Magpies the lead in the 11th minute with a low shot into the bottom corner - his first senior goal for the club.

The home side went close to an equaliser when Corey Whitely's effort was cleared off the line, but Josh Kelly doubled Maidenhead's lead in first-half stoppage time after being played through by Josh Coley.

Wood frontman Tyrone Marsh reduced the deficit early in the second half, but Orsi-Dadomo scored a third for the visitors after Kelly's effort was saved.

Kelly was then replaced by Lovett who came on wearing a shirt with no name or number on it to provide the late drama.

The win saw Maidenhead leapfrog their opponents to finish 13th in the final National League standings.
