Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur: Inessa Kaagman double gives Albion third straight win

Brighton claimed a third straight Women's Super League win as Inessa Kaagman's double sank Tottenham.

Kaagman hit a sweet volley into the far corner with Albion's first real chance and then powered in a shot from the edge of the box.

Emma Koivisto had denied Spurs the lead in a dour first half, clearing Shelina Zadorsky's header off the line.

Zadorsky then hit a volley against the bar as Spurs struck the woodwork three times after the break.

Players from both sides warmed up in T-shirts bearing the name and squad number of Albion defender Rebekah Stott, who last week announced she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Her side were looking to secure a third straight WSL win for the first time, albeit almost a month after their last match, but chances were in short supply in a scrappy first half littered with stoppages.

Tottenham's Angela Addison was inches away from meeting Alanna Kennedy's cross at the back post, while the visitors hacked a clearance off their own line after goalkeeper Aurora Mikalsen failed to claim an inswinging corner.

The game finally sparked into life after the break, with Siri Worm hitting the post from a corner before Addison and Josie Green both saw follow-up shots blocked after Haagman's double.

Brighton created little but almost added a late third when Nora Heroum's 20-yard effort and Megan Connolly's follow-up header both hit the bar, before Spurs found the woodwork once again when Kit Graham's piledriver struck the bar.

Albion moved within a point of sixth-placed Reading as they look to break into the top half of the table, while Tottenham stayed in eighth after a fourth straight defeat.
