Birmingham City 0-4 Everton: Jill Scott among scorers as Toffees win

By James LawBBC Sport

England midfielder Jill Scott was among the scorers as Everton overcame a first-half scare to win at Birmingham.

Toffees goalkeeper Sandy MacIver was fortunate to escape a red card for a late challenge on Claudia Walker but was forced off anyway through injury.

Everton took advantage of the let-off, Scott guiding home and Alisha Lehmann heading a second before the interval.

Claire Emslie's fine lob and a 25-yard half-volley from Simone Magill rounded things off for the visitors.

Victory moves Willie Kirk's side within four points of fourth-placed Arsenal, while Birmingham remain three points above bottom side West Ham and without a Women's Super League win in seven matches.

There was a nine-minute stoppage in the first half at St George's Park as MacIver needed treatment for a blow to the head in the challenge with home striker Walker.

Walker beat MacIver to a long ball forward, with the Everton keeper clattering her opponent and lucky to only be booked, despite coming off worse from the collision.

The visitors led through Scott's composed finish after a great pick-out from Hayley Raso down the right and on-loan Hammers striker Lehmann beat two Birmingham defenders to convert Emslie's cross, with Scott also hitting the underside of the bar in the first half.

Scotland forward Emslie punished a loose pass from Blues keeper Hannah Hampton to chip in from range before Magill's excellent strike.

It is a third consecutive 4-0 defeat for Carla Ward's side, who have now scored just once in seven WSL games.
